That's right folks the year is drawing to a close so it's time to nominate and vote for your 2023 Hexies! These are the Hexbears you think exemplify what it means to be a real Hexbear. Here's how it works:
Pick from the below categories
Nominate someone for that category by tagging them
If you are nominated respond to the nomination to accept it
Most upbeared accepted nomination in each category wins!
What do you win? The esteem of your fellow Hexbearian comrades of course. What more could you want?
The categories for this year's 2023 Hexie awards are:
Most Influential Hexbear of 2023
Most likely to be called a tankie offline
Best in Community Engagement
This year we have a special bonus category to commemorate the year we federated;
Best non local user
Alright comrades that's it from me, be sure and do your democratic duty and for your 2023 Hexie winners and congrats in advance to the winners of this highly coveted and prestigious award!
1 @SeventyTwoTrillion@hexbear.net and all of the regular contributors to the news megathread for making it into an international hub of information exchange and learning. Never did I ever think that the current iteration we see today would've stemmed from the first war Containment thread during those confusing and anxious days. Additionally i want to show my appreciation towards @Awoo@hexbear.net, and @kristina@hexbear.net, for being positive figures of hexbear in both their work, posting, and presence. You both, alongside all the many other people here, make the site a pleasant and enjoyable island in the morass that is the general internet.
2 @GarbageShoot@hexbear.net has come so far in the past year I'm more than confident that if we ever met IRL he would radiate Stalinium.
3 the mods of the fake news comm. For the few times you've gotten me, you suck. . I also want to shout out retired poster @UlyssesT@hexbear.net for leading his own daily one-man crusade across hexbear and the wider federal network. You are gone but not forgotten.
4 the only person that consistently comes to mind for me is @Aru@lemmygrad.ml, for consistently participating in the news mega and assisting in giving us English speakers a glimpse into the Arabic world in a manner only a native speaker can. This of course extends to all our other multi-lingual friends and comrades here who take their ernest time to help us learn more about the world beyond our screens.
Just one of our strongest posters all around. Didn't log off until real life took his attention. He's the only poster I've seen who will respond to absolutely everyone. Giant comment threads, good sprinkling of our emojis. overall powerful aura with a lot of posting HP
But since he's not here to accept it, I gotta give the actual nomination to @WhyEssEff@hexbear.net
Every emoji is like a little morsel of candy and I can't imagine how the site culture would look like without our lovely little pictures of indie game characters and pig shit
not really sure. I see some sometimes and they can be cool. Still feels like I'm getting to know all the folk from federation. But probably someone from lemmygrad
There's a few different ways you could take this tbh. Like, posting numbers, commenting numbers, starting things like bookclubs, etc. I think in terms of "Person who generates the most engagement in the community" then I think @RNAi@hexbear.net with his incredible posting (and commenting!) numbers is a big influence.
Most Influential Hexbear – @thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net for pretty much carrying the general megathread on his back solo throughout the year.
Most likely to be called a tankie offline – honestly @UlyssesT@hexbear.net, factoring that you also have to push your ideological opposites to the point of this in a conversation, and they're an extremely powerful poster in that regard.
Best in Community Engagement – @makotech222@hexbear.net for quickly whipping up the new emote shortcode search into a prod-ready state days before we were to push the major site upgrade on a whim in response to my post about shortcodes being fucky
@PM_ME_YOUR_FOUCAULTS@hexbear.net and @UlyssesT@hexbear.net both got me back into reading for fun this year so shout out to my hexbear teachers. yall are my most influential because you have influenced my offline life in a helpful way.
haha ive been called a tankie offline before! but for the nomination I will say @Pluto@hexbear.net because i feel like their earnesty and passion must carry over into their organizing.
@wombat@hexbear.net for making sure we all show up on time (well our version of on time haha) for movies on hextube!!
Number 3 nomination: @SeventyTwoTrillion@hexbear.net : Their hard efforts put into the newsposting are a boon for all. Their contributions during discussions I always appreciate.
Okay for number 4 tho: @yogthos@lemmygrad.ml : Prolific newsposter and a very well informed individual. I see them while browsing both hexbear and lemmygrad
@Othello@hexbear.net : Just a lovely person all-around, congrats on the wedding!
My nomination for number 2: @buckykat@hexbear.net : Extremely based poster, banning this user would be revisionism tantamount to the Kruschevite counterrevolution
Second nomination for number 3: @kristina@hexbear.net : One of the most legendary posters on the site. Has a lot of experience organizing IRL. She is also very funny.
@Awoo@hexbear.net : I see her unique moving avatar everywhere, and its always a joy to talk with her. Tied for number 3 for news thread.
@Cromalin@hexbear.net : the largest poster on the traaaa subreddit, and has very good trans media reccs. Tied with Kristina for number 3 in trans com.
I would like to nominate @commiespammer@lemmygrad.ml for 4. We are not associated in any way whatsoever, I just think jre's a very neat and influential person and I love all of jris posts.
@thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net for all the megas. god bless, they add so much to the site culture and i love seeing what i'll learn on the new day
our dearly departed @UlyssesT@hexbear.net for sure. but failing that, @kristina@hexbear.net has a lot of stories about it happening because she is actually organizing irl in spaces that aren't purely good opinion zones
@WhyEssEff@hexbear.net for all the emojis. even if she hasn't added any of mine :( wheres :edelgard:!
I nominate all the people who have helped me out financially you're all too many to name and I'm happy I didn't get on your nerves, this is for category 1.
wombat probably deserves 3., but instead 1. because of wombat's movie reviews. found so so so so so so so many gems from wombat's picks for movie night
No but really that would go to @rottingleaf@lemmy.zip for all of that libertarian nonsense we got to laugh at. I'm sure there are people more deserving of a nomination but he came to mind first so lol lmao ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Not to be too cornball, but there is a core to hexbear. SFS has consistently embodied it since chao.chat days. Comedy is always spot on. One liners are consistently bangers. I mean the guy makes me crack up but also seethe at the same time. Is that not the raison d'être of hexbear?
There's also the human vulnerability. Some here are open about some of the shit they've gone through in life, and SFS has been through some fucking hell. I have a lot of respect for that. A good person, a comrade and a comic. There are a number of people here who the site is lucky to have posting. SorosFootSoldier is undeniably one of them.
Do you want to say that to my face? I was first in my class at the Kurgan State Metallurgical Institute. I designed an alloy that has been used in munitions that have killed fascists across the globe. Do you see that Lada over there? The one with the rear end almost dragging on the ground? That's because the trunk is loaded with the various AKs I used while fighting the Taliban in the 1980s, personally field testing new shell casings. You probably thought you were just making a little joke. Well, that's fine. The revolutionary moment has passed, for now. Can I get like 10 bucks? I need gas to get to Ramallah.
Edit: Replied to the wrong comment twice. Anyway, don't call the wrong person an imperialist ghoul when you're at the bar.
