  • Part of the purpose of debate is to find the holes in an argument so you can fix them. If you don't understand your weaknesses, you can't guard against them. That is why people play devil's advocate.

Especially when your argument is as full of holes as 'some corporations do horrible things, so clearly making implications about an evil corporation, no matter how wrong, is the right thing to do'.

  • You picked a side

Yeah. They picked truth and honesty over sensationalism.

Spreading lies about corporations doesn't help. They're bad enough anyways; we don't need to make up stories about them to paint them in a bad light, they're perfectly capable of painting themselves.

  • That depends on if they're reporting LESS money than they actually made, or are reporting MORE money than the shop itself actually took in.

If everything is in cash, you can inflate it pretty easily without raising eyebrows.

  • I mean.... it wasn't.

Communism means all things held in common. Theft wouldn't be a thing because everyone owns all property together. Ownership is meaningless.

Every one of those societies only paid lip service to communism - partly because it only works when everyone in the commune knows everyone else and holds each other responsible. It doesn't work at scale. What those societies really were was "The state owns everything and if you complain about it you get disappeared."

  • The right-wing propaganda machine has gotten very good at blasting "The Democrats are DESTROYING THE NATION" across every channel they have whenever there's a non-Republican in power. Anyone who listens to it will never vote D, no matter what - because they believe that everything Democrats do are aimed at stripping rights from citizens and taking money from their paychecks. That propaganda machine is getting a broader and broader foothold as moneyed interests continue to gain ground.

  • Well, as it turns out, America's status as an economic juggernaut has always been dependent on keeping our occupied territory as shitholes that are terrible for the people who live there, so we can exploit their labor and resources. We learned well from the British Empire. The shitholeness is just being turned against a larger swath of our population now.
