Thank you for this perspective, it helps.
Trying to reconcile my own beliefs and political stance with the feelings Venezuelan people in my life have been expressing to me has been difficult ngl. Like... What am I supposed to say? I just try to listen. I dunno.
I'm genuinely a much happier, healthier, and overall more satisfied person now that I live in a walkable city and can bike as both a hobby and a mode of transport. I wish more cities in the US were this dense. I wish this was more accessible to people.
Maybe someday. Things seem to be moving in a generally positive direction, even if slowly. I've recently realized just how effective local activism and showing up to community meetings is (spoiler: VERY.)
Wanting a video interview for an admin spot is so wild lmfao, they take themselves so seriously
My local food pantry takes pretty much anything a person could find useful (backpacks, clothes, shoes, etc). Try seeing if there's any local outreach/resource organizations in your area.
We should give the buses snow plows to push people like this out of the way.
If only there was some kind of alternate mode of personal transport that doesn't require government licensing and registration....
... Ride a bike, you say? What, like a fucking communist or something?
I would love to run my main machine off Linux, but none of the software I need in the day-to-day runs seamlessly on it, unfortunately. That's still a pretty big obstacle for me.
Every time I hear her name I'm haunted by that one British lesbian artist who made a horny Hillary Clinton fanzine and sold it online.
Had no idea this forum even existed lmao. Absolutely bizarre to scroll through it and every other post is like "The Cybertruck killed my family and sliced my ankles and also the employees spit in my eye when they delivered it," inevitably followed by comments along the lines of, "Aw man, I'm still waiting for mine. Lucky!"
Brain rot.
Difficulty impossible, afuckingpparently.
I've got multiple white queer friends who are staunchly "vote blue no matter who" and dissolve into a trembling breakdown whenever they're asked about it, talking about how if republicans win the world is going to end etc. Like, full on angry-crying wojak, talking about third-party voting being a waste, Project 2025, etc. Coincidentally, these friends hardly ever engage with activism.
How do you choose to engage with these kinds of people? What's the general opinion on the vote in leftist circles, considering so many are refusing to vote for Biden (just checking the water temp since I've been largely offline save for activism and work lately)?
I've been away from Hexbear for a minute, apologies if this has been discussed!
Edit: Really appreciating all the replies! Really glad I can reliably come here for good discussions. Thanks everyone !quokka-smile Slash gen., in case it's needed.
Can we pls just have more butches
Already seeing alt-righters online use this to drum up a new panic about The Commies. Real unfortunate. I feel bad for the guy, I hope he recovers and gets some help.
Ah I apologize! Definitely not intentional, I'll correct my original comment right away.
I never said AI is evil, by the way, I just said she was annoying about it, which is subjective.
I wish this Tumblr user was less annoying about other day-to-day topics--I generally enjoyed reading her political posts. She had a whole AI phase a while back that was pretty cringe-inducing to watch.
When he said he has to charge it every 6-8 hours or so....
I'm sure that'll be fine if they ever manage to restore motion in the limbs.
Controversial but I honestly really like BlueSky so far. It has its issues, and maybe I'm naively hopeful, but I feel like it's set up to be better than its predecessors. No harm in giving it a go, and it's easy to jump ship if it ends up going down the shitpipe like the other platforms did.
It's not just that they're horribly, unnecessarily bright--but the drivers never adjust their angle because it's not common knowledge that you're supposed to do that when you get a car. It's right there in the manual. LED headlights even have an attempted safety measure where they have a hard line stop instead of a gradual drop-off, to avoid blinding people--so when they're correctly angled they're... Okay, I guess. Not great, but better. So when it feels like they're beaming directly into your eyeballs, that's because they are.
That, and idiots putting LED headlights into their old cars without switching the housing, which essentially eliminates the safety measures and turns them into million lumen lasers.
Oat is where it's at, personally and environmentally. But holy shit I'm gonna be thinking about "hentai martini" for a while.
See title. I hate that there's no little huts for selling newspapers, snacks, and smokes to people. Closest thing I have here in the US is bodegas, but they don't scratch the same itch. Cold days like this make me nostalgic.
I keep seeing "fuck tankies" everywhere, and seem to see people getting called "tankie" for any number of things--I used to feel like I knew what it meant (the formal definition, which I thought was the only application) but that's clearly not the case anymore. Saw someone get called one because they... Liked the idea of universal basic income and wanted walkable cities? And now the same sentiment is on a large number of Lemmy communities, lol.
I feel like I've been living under a rock.
Edit: Wow, I guess it's just as meaningless of a term now as it seemed. At least it's a nice, bright flag for ghouls not worth engaging with meaningfully, lol. I saw "fuck tankies" on a genderqueer community and got pretty confused on how the two ideas correlated in the slightest, so I guess that was the tipping point on me finally asking about it.
I may be a little confused but I've got the spirit.
