Raise a digital hero from an egg and take them out on adventures!
Fun little game, thought I would share.
I'm a software developer. What it does do is help you out for beginning level work, half remembering methods sometimes works out.
What it's really good at is templates. Like build a simple MVC based on this table kinda deal. It saves a ton of boilerplate time in a semi intelligent way. What it's really bad at is anything remotely complicated because it will forget/error out/ rely on libraries that do not exist. I have other thoughts on the actual companies and the spam they say is AI but that's another convo.
I'm waiting for this to go on sale. Looks to be fun!
I throw the goat at the kobold.
A real quote from a campaign we played, one of our first sessions.
Interesting first I've heard of this new chip.

Im a dev. But you do you. GL!
Excellent! Thanks. Ill take a look at it sometime. https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/818
Last time I checked, there was still discussion on how people want this to work. Because its easy to say, but hard to get everyone to agree.
I would love to get a fairphone. Its just 4x the price of everything else. I cant possibly afford it here in the US.
Community collections should be a thing. Something like /cc/Technology could pull in lemmy.world/ other instances and collections of communities. It makes it easier if one instance dies, an instance de-federates itself, or just wanting to consolidate all the different /c/Technology
communities across instances.
It would also be nice if communities had the option to vote on their admins once in a while. Having individuals lord over different communities is a problem in reddit.

The Fediverse has a different value system than commercial social media: striving for genuine connections, protecting privacy and championing accessibility
Ive done that but just wifi. It works. Its more of a "for fun" kinda deal. I cant get rid of my smart phone because of a couple of necessary apps for work.
The CPAP lockout is something I went through. The company behind my CPAP does not allow you to get ANYTHING off the device. But there is an SD Card that you can get all the info you want from your old system. Its arbitrarily locked out.
You are also unable to repair anything on the device without insurance getting involved. And insurance is often at OEM prices (think 200+ for a basic mask). Thankfully, people have illegally added STLs/chips/parts/etc... online that you can basically reverse engineer the entire device nowadays. As long as you use medical safe materials, it saves you literally thousands of dollars. Ive replaced quite a few parts and the device is still working after many years of usage.
Lately I have been having a lot of fun playing around with mestastic devices, older phones, and so called "dumb phones". I dont plan on getting rid of my current smart phone (at least any time soon) but I do want to see how it feels to go back to a dumb phone.
Anyone have a preferred dumb-phone setup that still works with 4G?
I want to be able to:
- Make/receive phone calls
- At least be able to see texting
- Replaceable battery
- (optional) some sort of directions (google maps/OSM+ etc...)
Things I have looked at:
- Ive been looking at some of the new Nokia offerings and it looks like they are going full retro which I like. I just dont like how thin the plastic looks. It looks like the phones could die at any point.
- I took a look at https://www.wiphone.io/ and that looked neat, but no GSM (phone calls outside of wifi) so thats a no go.
- https://dumbwireless.com/products/punkt-mp02 looked almst perfect....then I saw you can repair the device or replace the battery.
- https://dumbwireless.com/products/light-phone-2 looks nifty but again cant replace anything.
- Sunbeam F1 Horizon might be a good fit given that you can take out the battery but the price is a bit steap.
What do you all think?
After a short Beta period I covered previously, the EmuDeck team have released EmuDeck 2.3 that comes with the big user interface overhaul.
Im not sure what you mean.
Itch.io and GOG are great alternatives.
Nice! I hope they go down in price at some point.
Apologies but what am I looking at here. Looks cool, some kind of AR glasses with the steam deck? Im a bit lost.
After years of running exclusively with Epic, Ubisoft has had enough.
Sega genisis if we are talking real hardware. Followed by Gameboy.
Lately I've been loving my miyoo mini plus and steam deck combo. They are both retro game powerhouses.
It has had a huge increase according to the statistics. I wonder where they are getting their numbers from. Both fedidb and other sources say the number of users are only going up.
Note, different websites have different total user counts. fedidb kinda goes up and down and I dont understand why.
But for example fedidb states 7,494,053 total Mastodon users whereas https://mastodon.social/@mastodonusercount states 15,467,187 accounts Pretty big difference. So there is probably much more accounts than what fedidb has. Or other counts are off by a large factor. Either way, lots of new faces in the fediverse! If anyone knows why theres such as discrepancy, let us know!
Lemmy is almost at 400k users alone. (391,247 ATM of writing). Its probably higher as there are servers that dont federate.

Yeah its a new one (or at least new to me).

My last bastions of Google are:
- Email. Its rock solid stable, but I know they are using it to mine data. This is a good service...but im still looking at proton at some point to make the switch. Or coming up with a solution myself.
- Maps. Maps is also another really good service they give out for free. I have tried a huge number of alternatives, but still have no real alternative. OSM+ is the closest and works really well in emergencies but its pretty terrible at searching for anything specific to get to.
- Youtube. This is the one I think I can possibly remove at some point. Some creators have their videos on other sites so it might be a mishmash for a while. But the best ones dont. I might just get into audio-books or some other sort of entertainment. Peertube is also a great alternative. And throwing money at !tilvids@mstdn.social might be better in the long run.
Ironically their search has taken a turn for the worse, so other sites are much better in my opinion.
YouTube has found a new way to bypass ad blockers by integrating ads directly into video content via "server-side ad insertion," complicating the detection and blocking of ads. How will ad blockers respond?
