Nobody wants to bring in shipments because shit could change in the time it takes to get here.
Even "reshoring" is a bad business call because all of the equipment and materials that go into that are more expensive and uncertain.
If Trump doesn't fold soon, we'll be on track for a sequel to the Great Depression.
Yep, imports are an investment from importers/capitalists perspective. And under capitalism, investments are done with expectation of profit.
If Trump doesn't fold soon, we'll be on track for a sequel to the Great Depression.
Even if us from other countries are affected, let it happen, I want to see this Western world cope and seethe about this
If Trump doesn't fold soon, we'll be on track for a sequel to the Great Depression.
Just a few more weeks of this will cause enough trouble in the supply chains that even if Trump completely drops all tariffs to zero, there will be significant economic problems. It takes at least 2 weeks for a ship to come from China and that is assuming that everything is running smoothly.
If Trump doesn't fold soon, we'll be on track for a sequel to the Great Depression.
Even if shipments resumed, and there is no indication of such (that I know of), with the time it would take for freight to make its way to consumers, not to mention the resulting congestion, it be long enough to cause serious trouble. I'd be surprised if the drepression isn't already there, and the symptoms are just about to manifest
The number of ships coming into LA today is lower than Vancouver, Canada. You can look at real time tracking for cargo ships and it's crazy how empty the US ports are compared to normal. Shanghai still booming tho
Seems bad idk
If your in america and have the means to you should be making sure all your electronics, clothes, etc are good to go for the next few years. Its gonna be hard to find and stuffs gonna be expensive. I don't have money for new clothes which i already needed and its worrying me. Maybe i can make my own out of blankets and stuff lol. Luckily i rarely upgrade tech anyway and know how to repair stuff so on that i should be fine. Food should be alright for most things atleast. Hope you don't like Tilapia tho. Like 90% comes from China.
So America is getting hit by embargoes it imposes on other countries but its self imposed
Something something fascism is Imperialism at home
Nature is healing
Smh I have no original thoughts
Exactly. The lack of junk from overseas may be painful but it's the wakeup call we need. America can and should be protectionist and buy American. We've been sold down the river.
Edit: Just realized this is a hexbear post. It explains the antagonistic meme responses. My mistake for posting here I know better.
Sorry, but I was making a display of layered Hexbear irony. There is no transition plan to support a revival of domestic production. The stage is set not for that, but to turn the US interior to a resource colony, illiterate with a life expectancy of 40. Without a social revolution, that's what's in the cards.
Buy American
America can and should be protectionist and buy American
why? So you can get something of worse quality for 5 times the price? Are you ever going to understand that 21st century globalization was designed for YOUR benefit so some sweatshop worker in SEA can make you a pair of sneakers for barely more than the cost of materials? Maybe if chuds like you opposed the international slaughter and oppression of ecological activists, labor unionists, and anti-imperialists the fucking coddled modern American "worker" (consumer) wouldn't feel like they're getting outcompeted by the rest of the world now. Get your shit together and realize a global proletarian revolution is in your best interest, before the armed guard drags you back into the coal mines.
I'll be forthright and tell you I intend on being antagonistic to you because you sound like some dipshit chud
It's also not all memes, we want the US to collapse
good joke
Yea man, the factory birds are gonna bring industry back to the US any minute now, by magic!
Sold down the river by who?
You are so wrong. China and others have been providing US with aid by sending goods in exchange for financial claims which may not even be claimed for real goods.
Recognize that US is getting free lunch and that its manufacturing decline is its own choice of relying too much on capitalists.
My mistake for posting here I know better.
Clearly not lol
you're a stupid asshole
I assure you America is not the victim here….and I go out of my way to never buy Amerikkkan.
i dont quite understand this pill on here - maye its the "junk" thing - implingin that te Junk is from overseas in - no regulations paradise _ ?
Burgerland used TANTRUM!
I was out at the store and things still felt relatively the same price wise. Guess that's going to change soon.
I've noticed that the actual prices haven't changed but all the stuff that used to be 4 or 5 bucks is still 4 or 5 bucks bur it's "on sale" marked down from 7 or 8 bucks. And everyrhing is "on sale" my guess is these sales are gonna slowly dissappear and everything's gonna be the higher price within 2 months.
Anecdotally, coffee was 10% higher this weekend over last week
This shit's going to take a while to fix, too.
it's not gonna get fixed it's just gonna find a new equilibrium
No ships is an equilibrium lol
Yea idk gow we got anything g resembling a pass last time but going forward now every other country is gonna understand any "official agreement" is completely useless less than 4 years from when it was made.
That's not new, liberals have been tossing that one out for forever
The difference was, prior to now other countries were still operating under an assumed US hegemony so they responded accordingly
China isn't bending the knee though, so that may not be the case for much longer
what are the odds we treatler luigi
Shit I was hoping we'd luigi treatler

uh oh
What a beautiful sight
This wouldn’t be the time tariff shipments would arrive. These are pre tariff ships. And next month should start to show the real impact.
Would the tariffs cause ships to be rerouted? I have no idea how shipping works but i assume importers must be trying to get out of their contracts.
I don’t think that’s logical for the shippers. Way too many gears and unions to deal with to turn it to a different port.
Seattle gonna look like Revachol by winter
