  • I grew up in and used to live in a smallish city in the Southern US. Many years ago, I found a local socialist party and it was the first time I had ever spoken to a room of people who understood the words I was using and mostly agreed with me. I was ~30 at the time (much older now) and there were only about 10 people, some of them baby leftists, but I can still remember that feeling of belonging.

I'm autistic and back then I was still unaware, but it was a big deal for me to feel understood without explaining myself 10 different ways. I was holding back tears during the first meeting I went to. Things quickly fizzled out for a lot of reasons and I eventually moved away, but just knowing I had comrades in a place and time where I thought I was completely alone helped me get through a lot of hard times.

I'd say I'm still pretty pessimistic and certainly fit doomer more than bloomer; however, that moment pushed me into a lot of activism since then

  • I find it funny someone would turn to MiB for this instead of something like groupthink or any of the other social psych constructs that attempt to explain group behaviors. Literally a century of research into this kind of shit (not all of it is very useful)

  • I think you're thinking of another fictional book called The Coral Island. Lord of the Flies sort of parodies it

Golding was inspired to write the ‘real’ story of what would happen if boys were stranded on an island – ‘in Lord of the Flies he had written Coral Island in reverse

  • If it's really getting to you just cut them out. Boundaries are only real if you enforce them. You're basically letting some chud talk at you because you've known them for a long time. Fuck them, you don't owe them your time or your patience. But also I'm autistic and people like this are genuinely harmful for me to be around, I might be thinking about this from the wrong perspective.

Idk it just sounds like Alex probably isn't worth being around unless you just have to. All that time could be spent around some other person who doesn't suck. Don't waste your life on fascists

  • A long time ago I was getting a divorce and tried to file all the paperwork myself because we were both chill about it and wanted to save money. The judge rejected the first set of paperwork because it was printed on both sides of the paper. The second time I was missing a form, but the clerk would not tell me which form I was missing because that's legal advice? Ended up wasting about 20 hours of my life and hiring an attorney anyway

  • Do the people running the CPC actually live lavish lifestyles and have the mid-level people work as assistants? Because if that isn't very common then who the fuck is this video even targeting? Surely anyone even in the orbit of party leaders is much better off where they are than being a fucking spy? Especially for the US, notorious for turning on allies

It almost seems like all of the people working for the CIA have been fed CIA propaganda their whole lives and don't even understand reality

  • Was reddit always this bad or did I just change that much? It's been a long time since I've used it regularly, but even just a couple of years ago it didn't seem so aggressively anti-communist in the comments

Also lol found someone from hexbear

  • I don't think there has really been an increase in the rate of people being born with autism, the diagnosis just got a bit broader and people are looking for it more frequently. 30+ years ago parents didn't even know the word autism, they were barely thinking about ADHD
