Pilot G-2, Obviously. #5.
5 is the objectively correct answer here.
Yeah, no contest at all.
It's probably the choice I would have to go with, but when I was working with full boxes a lot, I started caring more about which pens were sturdy sharp enough to stab through tape and drag through it 50 times an hour and not end up looking at the end of your pen and find out the tip ripped off. Switching to a box knife over and over slows you down a lot and I needed the pen to cross out and document what was missing from the orders. Pens with caps are a pain for that as well, waste time.
I probably should have tried to find something like this: https://atechgo.com/products/multitool-pen-9-in-1-box-cutter?variant=31317899149448&srsltid=AfmBOorxxFa__k_qsBl8iPIi6kKPJc6A4Ah6nJ8WZ7gm3JZhWGj1qBZ_1AY
I used to have a need to open things a lot while on the other side of a security barrier (and metal detector.) I ended up getting a Gerber Shard to carry around on my keychain. Does most of my multitool, prying and even knife jobs without being sharp enough to get taken by TSA (or rent-a-cop or whomever.)
Damn that pen is actually super handy. My only issue I'd have is i really like having a fine tip pen I use a Pilot G2 07 black pen
Give me that smooth 5
As a shorthand writer I approve of this comment.
Definitely 5, so much better than 99% of other pens.
If 5 is the G2, then 5.
The price and quality are so hard to beat.
Pilot G2 if I must, but the real answer is a Lamy Safari.
At school all the cool kids had these lol
or these
[I come from a very specific generation in French speaking switzerland, so this may not be relatable]
Germany too
Also Estonia, especially the erasable one
When I taught tertiary anatomy to sports science students. The school's stationary cabinet was a box of lost pens that the cleaners added to. The school wasn't great. Rather than buy new pens, we were to take from the box. I knew I wasn't being renewed next year so I came in on the holidays and took every four pen in that box. About fifteen of them. It's seen me good for for pens for about 13 years now. I still have a bunch kicking around. Mostly green/red left, but I use those to mark my ToDo lists with completed and delayed entries.
I wish they sold cheap refills for the 4-pens but when I looked I could only find ones around the same cost as a new pen.
I can only write with friction now, I have ADHD and I often skip letters when writing words so I always have to erase the letter I just wrote. If I'm not using friction it looks horrible
Ooh, Pilot Frixion, I like those. I did not expect myself to ever be able to get excited about pens, yet here I am.
I love lending out Frixion Clickers out to my DnD friends and seeing them struggle with the click before they realise that the pocket clip is the thing that goes click.
5, man I loved those pens when taking notes in college.
Another for 5
The day I first gripped a #5, had there been clickbait thumbnails back then, mine would have read:
This Changes EVERYTHING!
Show me the fucking feather
#5 carried me through three degrees.
If I HAVE to use a ballpoint, it's going to have to be a rollerball. Like the Uniball. But really, I'd take just about any fountain pen over any of them.
A Lemmy of culture I see. Love the Visconti.
Edit : Just noticed the stealth VP over on the right.
Thanks, I think it's one of my best looking pens. The VP isn't a VP, it's a MoonMan A1. I'm not sure if it's made by Majohn or not, but it is super similar to their A1 and A2 if it's not. Writes well, good seal. For under $30. Highly recommend.
A 0.38 tip size of No.5
Pilot g2 is the way to go
Was a committed G2 guy for YEARS (ultra fine all the way). But I’m a lefty, so ink smears were still a problem (though the G2 is better than most on that front). Then I learned about the Sarasa Dry pens from Zebra. The ink dries INSTANTLY, and writes like a G2. But they’re hard to find so I always stock up when I see them.
These are all terrible
7
2, the Pilot Precise, specifically a V5
This was the only pen I could use as a left handed writer that wouldn’t leave any ink on my hand.
I'd go for the Pilot Vball, but close enough.
Have you used one recently? I used to love those but they don't work as well as I remember when I've tried them in the past few years
I dont see any on here I would swear by.
I have taken a liking to the Pilot B2Ps, they are made of recycled water bottles, I liked them simply for the fact that they're the one type of pen we have in abundance at the office that no one else bothers to steal for some reason.
I like the Staples TRU RED series too.
what the hell is wrong with me, a year ago I'd be obsessing over some video game or hobby and now im discussing my pen model preferences, I think I've crossed the proto-boomer threshold
5 for me
Where the fuck are the Zebra pens
7
Anyone saying anything but #7 is delulu. There's a reason Bic won pens
5
I would pick 3 but I don't think its ball point and I have trouble controlling the strength when I press down on the paper.
I used 5 once and I ended up buying a pack of 10 as they were so good to write with.
5 forever!
1 and 2 look good but looks are deceiving. 5 and 7 all the way.
I like 1 because it's thin and not a roller type. You only have to imagine writing and you're doing it. Rollers can be ok, and 5 is a decent example, but 1 used with a ruler for precise drawing, nothing beats that.
I would've agreed with you 13 years ago, but something changed with the pilot G2s. They went from S tier to B at best. Ironically, I've replaced them with 2 now. The Pilot Precision's have been my favorite for quite awhile now personally
I think I’m more of a bic fan if it comes to pens or pencils But pilots are always been fairly standard. I guess it’s gone downhill which is too bad.
I write a lot (I am professor) and pilot g-2 (#5) is the way to go. Don't be fooled by sharpie's grip, I just finished a box of that model in red ink and g-2 is way better.
Hear, hear!
3, it's the best one I recognise
Thank you, I agree.
Surprised I had to scroll down so far to find 3, it's just the same as 5 but with better grip around the finger tips, which avoids the pen from twisting when you hold it tightly.
Uni Mitsubishi .38 I want it too feel like I'm stabbing the paper when I write
Does it also come in 9mm? I feel like .38 is a bit underpowered.
No, but they do have a 30/30 version
1 is my choice pen. Always and forever. No other type kept up with me. I use a slightly different variant though.
5, but black.
"Charlie, ever played roulette?"
3, it's the easiest to activate and handle
I have already chosen. And the one that I have chosen for life is not in this set.
Don’t leave us hanging! What is it?!
These. Albeit in various colours.
Those special pens I learned to write with at school

5 has the ink i use, the g2 whatever. But I use it in the fat Dr. Grip pen, cause of my old hands.
3
anyone voting G2 hasn't used one recently, or hasn't used literally any other pens in that time. I think the G2 is the absolute worst one on the list. At least the bic doesn't pretend to be able to write very well.
5, 0.7mm
You lost me at the fat tip
Preference aside, I've found that most others use the 0.5mm and that that means my pens usually find their way back to me when borrowed. I generally like the way the increased flow feels and don't experience a difference in control vs the finer tip. That said, the 1.0mm is crazy and feels like I am trying to paint, so I definitely get how others that prefer the finer tip might feel about my preference.
The real question: Is that Pilot G7 a 0.10 or a 0.07? Very different pens. 0.7 ftw
Poor ignorant fools not knowing the F-701 and F-402 hack.
Enjoy your writing in poverty and discomfort, you will never know glory because you sought comfort in convenience and thrift instead of greatness at all costs.
No zebra? Guess I’m never writing again.
5 … but black and in .38
2 or 3.
I use to love G2's, but they fell off. I found a sharpie pen a while back and was shocked by how well it wrote, it's now my goto.
Sharpie pens are the best!
This one right here by zebra: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N6VIUPS
By far my favorite pen
I prefer the F-701 personally but yeah, any Zebra pen over the ones in the op
Jetstream 0.5. Probably 5 is the closest. I still have a box of 2 floating around.
5 is the pilot g2 pen. They're pretty good pens. I preferred the Atlantis series before they changed it.
That's probably my choice as well.... It's a decent gel ink ballpoint pen that is relatively comfortable to use.
#2. 100%
I have several boxes of Uniball Eco. The ink dries fast enough lefties can write without smearing. Also it looks sleek and professional.
The Bic Cristal (number 7) all day long. They last forever, are dirt cheap and are the best selling pen in the world.
But they just disappear into the ether for no reason.
Because the cap is a good coke spoon that's why
That's why I buy them in packs of 50.
This. (I actually use the orange ones but the same applies).
Pilot v5 always
The Japanese uni-ball pens are sweet, don't think they are on this Nvm it's #1 or close enough
Pretty sure both 1 and 2 are jp and good
I was using whatever pens I could get before I found the JP pens. Now when I see one, I have to get it. The writing feels as though it glides like a brush over the paper.
Besides that, not sure why people say they explode on them, mine are indestructable. I write and draw with a very heavy hand and they stay rock solid. Pretty good pick for heavy handed people.
Is there a difference between #1 and #2?
Please answer fast, I am sitting on the urinal.
4, those pens are so smooth
None of those. I exclusively use Pentel Energels. Prior to that it was Uniball Signo. Up your own game OP.
The G-2 will take EnerGel refills. Best of both worlds IMO.
Interesting. I did not know that and may give it a try.
Me too, but looking at this pic, if I had to use one of these, it would be 5
