I'm countering with this from my home country of Belgium
That's trippy
Time to recreate this in voxel games
Ey, southern neighbour!
Welp, I ended up searching for it so here is a link. https://interestingengineering.com/culture/the-netherlands-unique-water-bridge
I thought it could have something to do with the levels of water but apparently it was cheaper than a bridge.
But it is a bridge
i too subscribe to Practical Engineering
Grady is the best!
So you're telling me you also watch Practical Engineering 👷♂️ ^^
I believe it's what is known as a "tunnel."
It's not just a tunnel, it's a water bridge
The pioneers used to ride these babies for miles.
At what ratio of width to length does it become a water bridge instead of a tunnel?
If the bridge falls, how far does the flooding spread? Is the river going to be dammed by the gap?
Not critical, just curious how the engineers accounted for this.
You know what's better? It's not a river. It's more like an artificial lake created by cutting off the North Sea.
The road might flood for a half km around the breach where it descends to the tunnel depth tho
Aquaducts aren't new. Granted this is a novel design, but it's still just an aquaduct. https://waterways.org.uk/about-us/news/canal-aqueducts
My eyes think it's an AI optical illusion. That's cool
I N F R A S T R U C T U R E
Underrated joke
It's a bit underdeveloped.
Honestly I think this is better than lift bridges in every way.
Plenty of tunnels under the sea in Norway.
You drive under the runway at Schipol too
Also, Disney World.
It's called an aquaduct and was invented by the Romans. But yeah.
Isn't an aqueduct the other way round?
Like transporting water from a natural river, and not building a water bridge of an existing river over a road?
Honest question, because I only associated it with providing water for cities and not to provide boats with pathways.
Originally, yes. But these days, not exclusively
But yeah. Petty condescending comment, and you're not even right.
It's a tunnel. It's just shorter than most.
Oh shit yeah that’s the way to think of it.
I hear the ancient Egyptians invented Christmas
