American politicians playing whack a mole with Chinese apps in a desperate attempt to make us use instagram instead is the funniest possible outcome I’m here for it
God it's so fucking funny because it might even have worked a little bit, if Zucker didn't go on Joe Rogan and start all out pandering to MAGA culture war chuds.
He is so detached from reality, he has no fucking clue what's going on. He saw Trump win and he thought homophobia and transphobia are back on the table, when the average normal person does not give a shit about LGBTQ+ people, they just to afford the basic necessities of living, and out of the downward spiral of status quo.
America taking the Great Firewall for granted is actually going to be very very funny.
A lot of Americans are about to find out very quickly that life in China is not anything like what they were told it’s like, and that the people of China actually like and support their government.
People are moving to REDnote? Wow... I didn't know that, I just, you're telling me that for the first time. /s
So, is it just another Instagram replacement with video? Are there creators from TikTok on the platform that you recognize? It's interesting to me that Lemon8 has been pushing its integration with Tiktok with this ban looming. My understanding is that Lemon8/Bytedance has even paid creators on TikTok to share Lemon8 and how to import your account and subscriptions to the platform. My understanding is this law potentially would prevent Lemon8 from operating in the US as well. It makes me wonder if Bytedance/TikTok know something we don't.
I opened up Google Play and lol these trending searches. It would appear people are looking for any available ship at the port.

Nope. Almost all of the English language content I’ve seen is about being a TikTok refugee and attempting to make dialogue with Chinese users. There’s a lot of comradery and honest discussion, honestly. There’s also the occasional MAGA loser but those are generally reported and mocked from what I’m seeing.
Edit: nevermind, CrutchesAndSpice is over there now doing an AMA about disability!
I just came across this on my fyp! Not Amerikan so don’t need to dl RedNote but I just might cuz a) my country might just ban TikTok too, were the biggest us simps there are, b) who knows what’ll happen to my TikTok w/o all the Amerikans, and c) it does look fun lol.
I do want there to be like genuinely magnitudes more people to transfer tho. Like, if the ban fucking goes through, let there be 50-100 million people on RedNote and not a single fucking person on IG or yt or whatever. Fuck them.
Hard to say. I have my TikTok feed set up pretty nicely; TikTok is far worse with a blank-slate algorithm than it could be with some tuning.
Right now there is a ton of English content on RedNote which might not last past the initial wave. The UI is very similar but not exactly the same. I’ve also noticed a few videos that would never fly on TikTok. For example, I would never see casual transphobia on my TikTok feed, but I just saw a video that
CW transphobia
made fun of a trans man who said he was gay, saying “isn’t that just being straight?”
so it actually makes me appreciate some of the rare social progress that American social media culture does embody. But on a better note, I’ve seen a lot of funny videos, a lot of super welcoming Chinese, and a lot of Chinese lesson videos. Oh and various thirst traps but what’s new lol.
Looking forward to US news media reactions to the trend!
One of my friends is worried that with all the Americans coming in, they might require XHS to split into domestic and international apps. Which would suck for the Chinese citizens who are working overseas, like them, who like the mix of stuff from home and from the international Chinese communities.
I'm in Poland so the TikTok ban won't affect me, but I'm there to keep in touch with some good yanks (rare breed) and see what the app's about (so far it's been good, it's a bit like TikTok but calmer and more comfy)
