  • Happy birthday Void 🐈‍⬛ I shall defrost you a Skippy treat and a box 🖤

  • Party is over and I bought way too much food and soft drink, but it won't go to waste around here I guess. Miniest's friends are all funny and nice little girls with nice mums, but I didn't get a chance to talk to them much.

  • Miniest's non birthday party today. She wanted a get together with her besties rather than a full on party. So we're hoping to snag a spot at the local "good" park (we live closest to the "shit" park) and I'm providing plenty of cold drinks and snacks. Got to make brownies and do some quick shopping. Off I go!

  • All I can say is fuck moving bluestone, feeling it today. Stupid volcanos.

Heading down the bellarine today for the break. Gonna start building a pizza oven out of the heaps of sandstone down there. I have no idea what I'm doing but it seems like a good idea.

    • Sandstone can explode if exposed to fire, so be cautious about where you use it. Should be fine as a support, just not right against where the fire goes.

  • Sky pending

Edit: sky has moved through ominous red into pale orange. I'm expecting an eye-searing ball of fire to appear any minute.

  • Anybody have the “board game stash cupboard” ? I counted around 30 board games and card games and half dozen puzzles. I think my favourites are Settlers of Catan and Risk, but the one game that everyone comes back to is UNO for some reason.

I think it’s more fun in a large group gathering that’s more casual.

    • The new UNO game has draw 10 and other weird cards in it. Great for big gatherings.

We have a lot of quiz games and classics.

    • UNO Flip is one of my favourite card games, it's so chaotic. Got any games good for 2 players that you can reccommend?

    • UNO is a classic. Never gets boring. Cards against humanity gets pulled out a fair bit at friend game gatherings as well.

      • We have cards against but it loses its lustre when you get used to the card combinations so the replay value goes right down.

For our UNO games, cheating is kind of encouraged, so some of the fun is trying to catch someone out.

    • Yeeeess. Just the classics - chess, backgammon, cribbage, mahjong and ordinary cards. Oh, and Squatter (inherited from siblings - dates back to the 1970s). Zillions of jigsaws as I like doing these and have good lighting over the jigsaw table so can be done after dark.

    • Totally! And I have an accidental duplicate set of Exploding Kittens to gift some day.

    • We've got lots of games like various Uno ones, Throw Throw Avocado, Throw Throw Burrito, Exploding Kittens, What Do You Meme, the hit each other with fake swords one and stuff like that. I like good old fashioned monopoly but nobody else is interested. There's a heap I haven't looked at in ages, I probably should.

    • yup, we have a board game and puzzle cupboard

we have games like Catan and Small World

    • I only 2 board games so I don’t think it really counts. I have flamecraft and Wyrmspan.

  • Got up at 3:30am after pizza-induced crazy dreams and heat and going to sleep early. Am now finally sat at computer forcing myself to do the last minute uni work I need to do before meeting my supervisor.

...of course, I want to do literally anything but that. Sinking feeling that I will not get to "enjoy" the public holidays much as I'm so behind on everything. My brain thinks of calhoon's gorgeous hammock photo from yesterday and is engulfed in sadness.

Also, what the fuck it's so hot in my apartment. Or I'm just really feeling it. I have to have the AC on in my south facing living room that has had the blinds closed all day...

OKAY. This meeting is at 9am and I need to be out of my house by 8:50 am so I better get cracking now. Headphones on, The Trip at full blast, let's go

  • Oh my lucky, my next door neighbours dropped off some lunch boxes for me.

Lunch has been sorted and I have too much food!

  • Aw, I forgot to bring my bunny ears to work. I even put them on this morning and then put them back down. Considering I’m wearing slight extra zany makeup to go with them, I continue to look like the weirdo of the office… but at least I’m (very) sparkly!

  • I have approval for the rental place I'm less fond of. Haven't heard anything from the one that looks 100%. And I still haven't seen either of them in person.

The one I really like is currently vacant, so I'm presuming if they were liking my application they'd be moving fairly quickly on it, so not hearing anything is not a good sign. The inspection for the other one is booked on Thursday, so there is still some time for divine intervention.

But at the moment it's looking like it will be mostly about just how deceptive the 7 year old photos are in relation to the current condition of the property, and what's in the mysterious corner that none of the photos show. The other place I can piece together all the photos and the plan to get a great overview, this one has a few missing sections that my brain is imagining terrible possibilities for. Especially in regards to the door through the laundry, which in this place would be the most used entrance. If it's a dodgy set of steps or something it's going to be a hard no. I suspect it's just not in the photos because it is utilitarian but not pretty, so that will probably be ok. But I need to work out how I'm going to manage Mr Woof's access, which can be tricky with no sliding door to put an insert in.

  • Is everyone's fire insurance paid up? Cos at work we've had TWO burned out trucks in our back alley so far today. One was a furniture mover's truck (this morning) and now the fire alarm went off cos the next door block of flats had a small truck with a burning engine stuck in the garage door. Alarm was stupid loud too - had to finish up phone calls cos neither one of us could hear the other over the noise. Boss now gone down to bound and plunge and lose his temper. Not that that will accomplish much.

  • If anyone's looking for a stupidly large decoration but didn't think the alien was quite right for you, there is a new option on Facebook you might like to consider.

  • beach was lovely

    blue heron fishing

he caught a big fish then hopped onto a rock to eat it .

  • My garage smells like poo? Noticed it last night when I came home and it’s still there today (and stronger). Going to have to clean it out over long weekend and find the source. Couldn’t see any animal crap on the ground. No stray cat could have gotten in, what else could it be?

    • Do you know where any nearby municipal plumbing is located?

    • A phantom shitter!

Human, dog and cat shit are very distinguishable from each other so if you can rule those out that leaves possum or rat. Or perhaps something has died in there.

  • The post flu-vax haze is combining beautifully with the complex task I'm on at work.

    Just...floating for the moment

  • Did a solid day of uni stuff. Made essential progress on the easiest stuff.

Next up is time to be data wizard, start generating plots, and when that all feels like too much I shall start with the easiest bit of writing: the method...

But that's for next time. No supervisor meet next week, top priority is to clear my work pile before I fly off. Gonna just take all my days away as carers leave I think.

Meanwhile I have bought a decent stockpile of ready made food to last me a while, between that and stuff I've already frozen and 11 days away, I don't think I'll need to cook til 10 May. All according to keikaku

  • Tech success! I figured out why PuTTY wasn't reading serial data from the ancient data measuring device I had to use (some setting in device manager buried under 5 layers)... and despite massive internal blockage in my head from actually sitting down and learning basic R, I managed to troubleshoot why my supervisor's R script for cleaning the output data kept not working. Something something dataframe object column number mismatch something. Good old google making me feel smarter than I am
