We bought a new car. Cheers 🍺
☕️!
🍺
Congratulations, welcome to the new car club! Is is new new, or new to you?
Pre owned. New to the kid
I want MissGod in the driver’s seat asap and it’s gonna be in a couple months but, I’m reticent to let her drive mine. I guess I just gotta let go at some point.
This is the situation: I have a manual Corolla which she likes but can't drive. He has a auto Camry which she practices in but hates. So I was willing to sacrifice my car so she could have one.
But.....
The man doesn't want to give mine up because it has only done 120k's and it's a good car in good condition. What he wants to do is run his into the ground then take mine. I'm like "ok" because I really don't care as long as I can go about my business occasionally and the kid gets a car to drive me to the pub when she gets her licence.
get her a small car that you don't mind gets dented
yay 🍺
🍺
Idc about car but do care abt cheers. CHEERS 🍻🥂
😂 🍺
Yay! Have you given it a name? (My OH likes to name our cars, lol)
Bit of a health scare for the ol' girl yesterday. Fainted, collapsed went to bed. I was in the garden and had no idea. ol' boy was down the bellarine gave me a buzz to see where she was. I found her completely out of it with fever symptoms. He comes racing back directing me on what to do / look for over the phone. Fuck she's lucky to have a medico hubby.
but jeez ol' boys language / demeanor changes when there are problems like the ones we've seen in the last 6 months. Shit gets calm, direct and accurate. He's normally a grumpy old bastard. We have our differences but with mum's polycrisis, we're both on the same page which has completely surprised me.
Damn, just saw this. What a lot to go through mate, I'm sorry you had to go through all that (and sorry for your parents too). Mum is indeed very lucky to have a medically trained husband. And it's good that he's able to see what matters and put the grumpiness aside in this sort of situation. Lucky he was not the one to have started losing faculties/abilities first...
If you feel okay with sharing it I'd be interested to know what happened to your mum to have gotten so acutely ill. I do worry about my mum because of her living alone and the kinds of things that can befall her
Yea sure.
About 15 years ago she had mouth cancer, a doc nicked the carotid artery, along with radiation therapy led to her losing her teeth over time as the jaw became necrotic.
Then she had glaucoma. They buggered one op over many, and she lost vision in 1 eye.
Then the rona hit and she didn't do any real exercise for 2 years
Another mouth op, made eating difficult..
Then she had a fall 6 months ago, her remaining eye ruptured, another 2 ops and the pressure was fucked both low then high, okay now but less vision than before
So it's a thing where it's difficult to eat, drink, talk, see, hear (which is unrelated to anything), exercise.
And it's compounding. Not getting enough to eat, lowers appetite, hard to eat anyway, makes exercise harder, which lowers appetite.. not being able to see clearly and poor stability / mobility due to lack of exercise and nutrition, lowers app... and around we go. The fainting yesterday was probs due to new blood pressure drugs and lack of water (hard to drink), which will increase risk of falls.. and around we go.
It's not really 'acutely' ill, it's just everything that's happened to her is working against her pretty quickly together since that fall and decline is x2 speed now. Personally I think she might have had a little bleed as her personality changed a bit afterwards but no one is investigating that.
There's also a lot of refusal which isn't helping her but what can you do.
She's had a lot of expert advice, but now it's hit a hard limit.
I'm really sorry to hear what's happened mate. I hope she'll be OK soon ❤️
Thanks man.
I just wasn't prepared for all these things to hit at once. Vision (and the shitload of drugs), teeth / food, physical mobility (and the risk of falls), hearing, memory, depression. It's hard to know what's feeding into each problem.
Used to visit my gran all the time at a 'well to do' nursing home and I really didn't like what I was seeing. The thought of it for the ol' girl scares me as there's a bit of complex care involved and I'm not sure they (or she) would cope and decline would be rapid.
I suppose age comes for us all, if we're lucky or unlucky.
Oh your poor mum, and you & yr dad. Hope she’s ok and is on the mend soon
This photo perfectly encapsulates the first few months with Gibson.
Also this is adorable:
They've gone out again so old panic guts will sit here all day and wait for them.
Awwwww ❤️
He’s gorgeous. Those ears! Those spots!
There are children screaming outside. I have closed the door and drawn the blinds.
I blame the full moon tonight
The dogs are already barking. Should I howl?
I'm hearing a lot of sirens where I am. It's lunacy out there tonight.

Mama sea
nice 🙂
I sat and guarded the food while the cats ate so the religious nutcase didn't throw away their food.
This is what it's come to lol
God I fucking hate this suburb and it's demographics.
religious nutcase didn’t throw away their food
Man that's weird.
Just had a quick squizz at which religions / cultures don't like cats and it's a bit of a mixed bag!
That’s assuming it’s an organised/established religion and not, uh, one of her own invention
She's either sikh or hindu.
Also note that I've been routinely been treated quite poorly by the Indian community because of my race. So that isn't helping either.
Her issue is feeding them any kind of meat.
Like her beliefs trump innocent creatures well-being. They will die if all they eat are vegetables.
Yesterday the husband and kid went and looked at a few cars. They rock up to used car yard. Spot a car. The husband says to the kid "jump in. Have a look around" then a stranger appears and in his limited English and no teeth starts a convo with the kid. Then she jerries and apologises profusely. The stranger laughs and says "no worries. No worries". Yeah, she made herself home in a strange old man's car.
What he was trying to say was "this my car. This my car".
I know someone who jumped in a stranger's car thinking it was his Uber.
But really, mistaking someone's car for one available for sale is a bit of a compliment, considering all the cars for sale are freshly detailed. You'd never have mistaken my old car for one for sale as it's presentation was generally less than pristine.
She said it was pretty clean inside but there was a few coins in the console that they had missed 😂
When I did crowd control, people jumped in strangers cars all the time thinking they were ubers.
he missed a business opportunity
The old fool.
Kid hits the gas
Kid was too busy looking at the screen situation.
Creme brulee with dark chocolate! So cuuuyte
DOOM. For I am blind to my most important need and ran out of coffee on this fine morning ...
...guess after such a long time I shall treat myself to a cuppa outside, at the laundromat. And then promptly pick up supplies on the way back.
Because of the sunny days I've been able to resume my prematurely terminated data collection for uni - definitely finishing today and then tomorrow I head back to some of the initial sampling sites out west to see how the readings might've changed from the same time of day between early March to now.
I'm so glad I'll be seeing a friend for dinner tonight. I would hate having to spend the entire weekend on uni.
E: I have finally finished PHM. Face may have leaked a bit near the end when somebody went back to find somebody else. Fist my bump! 😭 I found out they're doing a movie adaptation, I won't get my hopes too high as to how they'll pull it all off but I have to watch it just to see how they depict Rocky!
you are making me want to read sci fi again , not that I don't, I read fahrenheit 451, the martian chronicles, helconia, etc regularly
but new hard core sci fi i would definitely read 🙂
Skipped out on a family event because I'm just not ready for it, so went paddle boarding for hours and am now having wine and cheese in the back yard. Cheers all!
After 10 days of no guitar, I played non stop for about an hour without thinking. All improvised and it was fucking awesome.
Goodnight everyone ❤️
Can definitely tell there's been a slew of reddit refugees, the cunt quotient has upped in various comms this past week
conservatives/maga don't like what they are reading, the cognitive dissonance is too painful
City excursion with family today.
Always a great bonding and sharing experience for us.
Both kids confided in us about different things.
Parenting win.... hopefully.
Korean BBQ for dinner and jamming out to 80s music on the ride home.
Life isn't perfect but this was pretty close
Love to hear things the wins like this! Sounds like a beautiful evening for you!
I cherish all the time I spend with the kids. Ain't gonna last forever, but it's great right now.
Took Minipeelers to lunch and a movie (Minecraft). By the time we walked out of the cinema it was pretty warm. Went to buy a couple of things grocery wise and some new summer hats because I have no idea whatsoever where the other summer hats have gone. We all chose identical cane cowboy hats, so we looked like some odd hick family lol.
The best families are the ones who embrace the weird!
Sounds like a fantastic day!! 💜💜
I freaking LOVE this energy you bring to the world, the matching hats is awesome!
🤠
yay, I managed to buy 2 dozen eggs, first time in 6 weeks
Every time I start practicing on the guitar, Mickey curls up on my chair and falls asleep 😂
I'm the cat whisperer now
I'm trying Ritalin today instead of Dex. Feels different. Clearer sort of, but also calmer.
Report back later.
Hope it goes well!
So far so good! Dex gave me a lot of anxiety, but Ritalin hasnt which is awesome.
Will keep working out dosage today and tomorrow, but unless something awful happens I think I'll stick with Ritalin.
Up early, washing done and on the lines, fresh brewed coffee from the stovetop made.
Ahh time to relax then make lunch!
Used my new glasses at work for the first time yesterday and it's crazy toggling between glasses/no glasses just how blurry the screen of the computer is without them, and I'd just been dealing with it for so long.
Speaking from personal experience, as someone that got glasses relatively late in life, be very very careful going up and down stairs. Getting glasses really fucked over my proprioception, and several near disasters later I still find I have to take my glasses off to tackle stairs.
I also found that my naked sight deteriorated very fast after I got glasses. Fewer headaches though.
Appreciate the advice thank you! The optometrist started me on a lower than ideal prescription for that very reason, while I adjust. When I tried the correct prescription it was very disorienting
I knew there was a car show in Reservoir this weekend but I wasn't sure when it was. There was a community Easter thing on today that had cars at it so I took the boys there.
I checked my calendar and I did put a reminder in my calendar. It's on tomorrow, so we can go down to reservoir tomorrow and look at cars again
You jinxed it
Doh!
bored
Gym achieved. I will now market, before I have a lovely chill afternoon
Gaiiiiiiinzzzzz!
another lovely day here, will go into the city 🙂
then back home for more unpacking and cleaning 😐
🎶 I love sausage rolls. Put another one in the airfryer baby 🎶
🎵 Hell yeah, sausage rolls! Get out the good sauce and use freely 🎶
And so to chillaxing
I just realised I'd forgotten about cancelling the insurance on my old car. Sorted now and a refund should be arriving shortly. Not exactly a windfall given the new insurance is nearly three times as much, but good to have back in my account anyway.
Collected all the data and then did a big detour of shopping - stocked up on vegan snags and the like and then thought while I'm in the car I might as well go get the dog treats my brother wanted me to bring over from here. Turns out after going to one and finding very little, most petbarns around me were out of stock, so i had to brave the insanity of driving and parking in South Yarra to grab the missing flavours.
I wish I didn't have to drive far out tomorrow for the final data collection but the good thing is, that should be it for uni (frfr as the kids say), and I shouldn't need to drive much in the coming weeks for work or personal stuff. I'm a bit over driving
E; also just realised I haven't had breakfast or lunch. No wonder am cranky
You just reminded me to call and get the cat food ordered in
I'm putting together my shopping order and feel like there is something I wanted to get that I've forgotten. No idea what, I'll probably remember when I need whatever it was.
Chocolate
Dish soap
Toilet paper?
Chocolate falls under the want, not need category 🤣
I bought an excessively large bulk pack of dish detergent a while ago and definitely don't need more of that (and have dishwasher powder on the order already). I also have bulk delivery of toilet paper so should be right for those.
Lovely walk this morning and crashed out into emergency nap when I got home. Now. up. Quick shop and tidy up and then to a friend's for drinks in the sun.
sky pretty
yes!
had that star trek movie look
hmm, anyone do woodworking? I have a bigass solid corner desk with a corner bookshelf on top of it - but I want to raise the bookshelf. It's all solid pine, I have the panels to do it, but how to attach....
Youtube is your friend here I think. Zillions of handyman channels.
You'd think so, yah
IDK what you mean by panels.
Can you add some legs to the bookshelf so it sits higher and you can use the desk space under it?
I want to raise it from the bottom (so the top cornices will be same height as a bookcase nearby) , i have solid pine panels a matching thickness (20mm) the desired height (300mm) and proper length (900mm per arm) just pondering attachments. Dowels? Biscuits? Cam locks? Scribe in and metal plates?
The bookcase just sits on the desk, so no worries there...
It was driving me nuts trying to remember song samples I heard as a kid so ended up digging trying to find them. From a few remembered clips I worked out I had Encarta 98 and 99.
I did find a few incomplete playlists but one song still eludes me. I thought it was Dido and Aeneas (Purcell) but that sounded different
I have just bought myself a second hand portable air conditioner on eBay. I'm a bit spoiled where I am with airconditioner coverage in most of the house, but the rental places generally don't have more than a single room covered. I have seen some stuff about adapting vent covers to pull intake air from outside to make the portable units more efficient, so it will be interesting to see if that works - apparently a major reason they don't work as well as inbuilt is because the hot air being exhausted outside causes a vacuum which pulls fresh (hot) air into the room, many units sold overseas have a second vent for that air intake, but for some reason they don't sell them with that configuration in Australia.
Even if that doesn't work out it should be efficient enough to let me sleep in hot weather, and it was a good price only 5 mins away from work to pick up. Now I just have to actually get a property to put it in. They have contacted references so that's a start, but it is one of the places you apply before you can inspect the property, so even if approved at this stage it is still just a short list. It does indicate the application wasn't just thrown in the bin due to having pets or something though, so I guess it is positive news. I'm trying not to become too attached to the idea of this specific place, but I'm mentally working out where all the furniture goes and how I'll decorate, so I guess that's not really working 🤣
That’s interesting about the mod, I’d love to hear more about it if it works well
The caramelised onion clashes with the peanut butter. They have a little argument on my mouth
Another great jam.
Goodnight all ❤️

Got a big lunch planned for this afternoon, so a little breakfast would be just the ticket. Peanut butter and jam sammo please, with coffee.

Blue cheese and natto icecream please, served on a cold potato salad

Hot damn it's Not Cold At All out there. Have a tank top and very light cardigan on and feeling warm... friggin confusing...
Well if it's going to be like this can it stay warm until just before Anzac Day? I don't want it to get cold again before I have to go to the Tropical Soup.
I foolishly hoped for a warm Easter, so we'll be blasted by cold next weekend!
So far 25C and possible rain next Friday... It might end up cooling down again. Look as long as we can avoid max 16C days before I leave I'll be happy. Don't want to do deal with going from 16C to 32C and 90% humidity and 27C overnight...
