Melbourne has had its face washed, and the sunshine is glorious!
I've had my Mum's vegetable soup since I moved out of home permanently at age 22. 28 years ago.
Today I finally made it.
Couldn't fit in the pumpkin and I know I won't get any rice in at the end but it's ok. Added some minced garlic but stuck to the recipe otherwise.
Not exciting but warm and familiar and chunky.
Added bonus: my 9yo son is eating it! He can be ultra cautious with anything new. So watching him scoff it down is pretty heartwarming.
If i may ask - why are you a foot
New corporate buzzword I absolutely despise - Journey
It's not a fucking journey. It's a process.
Stop trying to make boring shit appeal interesting. It's boring, but that's a how it is. Changing the label doesn't make it exciting.
I'd put that on the backburner but to shy away from jargon like that is a paradigm shift.
We could loop in and should probably table it. It is low hanging fruit but still requires a deep dive.
It might be worth circling back at a later date, to see what stakeholder uptake is like. Donโt forget itโs important to view these things through an organisational lens to ensure maximum buy-in.
Wellbeing and mindfulness riles me up when it gets mentioned at work because it generally isn't thought of and cared for and often at odds with people's actions no matter how much they scream they're looking out for people.
Add holistic to that as well.
As much I hate those words and phrases, I hate the wankers that lap it up.
Grrrrr
@Duenan @MeanElevator
I am grateful I can practise heartfulness.
It's really important for me to engage with others at an emotional level. Too much mind interferes with the flow of feelings, so I try not to think while I'm at work.
@MeanElevator @Seagoon
A manager might say your statement is reason to enter a conversation.
Conversation, my aching foot! That's corporate speak for performance management.
No one will be entering me under any circumstances ๐
"We are mapping out the customer experience journey" is such a dramatic way to describe designing a form ...
๐
Everything at my work is viewed through a โlensโ atm - itโs driving me nuts.
We are not photographers!!
I got the dirt on my new client.
Very high maintenance and will argue down to the hour for project work.
Everyone I mentioned it to yesterday gave me this look and laughed lol. And word travelled really quickly around the office.
Document everything.
Absolutely. Calls are followed up in writing to get agreement to points of discussion. Extreme, but need a paper trail.
I look forward to the inevitable malicious compliance post
will argue down to the hour for project work.
I swear by Grindstone for time tracking. I've been using it for many years.
That looks really interesting. Cheers!

Edit: home now, playing breach wanderers. Today was good.

You ever feel like you made a wrong turn somewhere, but now you've started on a career pathway, have a stupid fuck off hecs debt, can't afford therapy, and feel like it's too late to go back? That you're struggling with your job, don't have any real reference point as to whether it's normal, and just kinda wish you had another option?
Today was not a good day.
Two wrong turns at least.
Yes. Iโd completed most of my first uni course before realising what I really wanted to do.
No choice but to finish the course.
I started a BA because I didn't get into the course I wanted to and didn't know what else to do, then had a breakdown and didn't finish it anyway. Waste of time and I've never earned enough to pay it back :(
Iโve been in existential crisis for decades. So I reckon normal.
Canโt sleep, am lung hacking snot monster. Donโt know if allergy thing or a bug. Gross either way.
Why not both ? I got floored by hayfever on top of the tail end of a bad head cold. Bless the flying spaghetti monster for antihistamines!
You may well be correct. I donโt like taking them as they make me feel weird, but breathing is kind of important.
allergy, even Bill Cat is suffering with it
Poor Bill Cat. Donโt know if cats are allowed Phenergan but itโs helping considerably. Still feel like shit though.
I have a sample of Lancome moisturiser that's too rich for my skin, so I used it as hand cream since I'd run out out, and my hands feel lovely.
I looked this stuff up out of idle interest, with no intention of ever purchasing it:
It's $575. For a 60ml tub of moisturiser.
I'm horrified. Are there really people out there who pay that much just for moisturiser? When so many can barely afford food? I'm spiralling a bit. But wow.
I use either savlon or a cheap lanolin. Lanolin in nearly exactly the same as our natural skin oils and works very well.
expensive doesn't necessarily means awesome
Surely there's a dupe.
I'll stick to my cheapo Cetaphil from the chemist for now I reckon.
I thought my $15 (only buy it when it's 1/2 price) 100ml Bulldog moisturiser was expensive...
Holy moley! I have a 'special' moisturiser that costs $50 bucks but I only buy it every now and then because its too expensive. That's a whole other level
I leave this for your consideration.
Edit: I have not and never will buy this item. (Knew a woman who worked selling this stuff at a department store counter.) I feel guilty buying a $20 hand or face cream!
Still radio silence from potential new company. Sent a follow up email this morning. Nothing
maybe person in charge is off sick?
It always takes longer than you think. Don't panic yet.
My 30 day notice period meets 29 days to the job starts date after tomorrow, and they know this
It's gotta be today
It will be ๐ค๐พ

Gratitude thread :)
Grateful for Stardew Valley (even though I did spend three hours playing tonight). It helps me take my mind off of bullshit thoughts.
Grateful I took the day off. It's only early but the CBF factor is high. Also grateful for nasal spray.
Grateful for Mr Seagoon, again. ๐บ He is really cool with me doing all kinds of projects . Never butts in but when I have a problem and gripe/ask he always gives good advice.
What would your made up Olympic sport be?
Mine would be: Carrying 2 six packs of beer and a phone through 4 rooms, opening and closing 2 doors along the way, turning on and off 3 light switches and placing them safely in the fridge in 15 seconds flat without incident. I've had years of training.
Folding and organising laundry.
Starting with basics then moving on to more complex items such as suits and gowns and dresses, even onesies and oodies.
To be judged by multiple judges by speed and accuracy/precision and have a scoring system aggregated like ice skating.
Sitting on couch drinking beer and not moving
Can this be a team sport?
Last man standing rules?
Throwing rocks at cars that don't indicate with points awarded by how much the repairs add up to.
What about cunts who stick in the right lane going under the speed limit? Would you be interested in competing in that event?
Knick-knocking
How do you win the Gold?
Tag. Not laser tag, just tag.
Or maybe British Bulldog, that game is brutal.
I accidentally got British Bulldog banned at Primary school.
There's already a championship - https://youtu.be/2nSJcXuK-UA?si=1txnbzlJCJwnecpL
Ute cursing
Plastic container bottoms and lid matching. Each competitor gets a tub of containers, and has to match them up the fastest and there would be some decoys in there that have no match. Winner measured by speed and accuracy.
Omg. That's genius. Extra points for "burping".
listen to the same song on repeat
Good night everyone. Stay warm. ๐
But seagooooooon, it's cooooooooooold

...what a wonderful day to finally get around to reimaging that old Qualys to pfsense.
Big wind make doors go bang bang. Sleep no.
No spoilers, but enjoyed Deadpool and Wolverine. It was pretty funny and entertaining.
I burnt the gozleme I made for dinner cos distracted.
Side note : bits of burnt gozleme in the sink look exactly like baby cockroaches.
I hate my handbag again, it's black and very practical but it's looking uglier everyday. Time for a new one.
so I was looking at what bags people have , I would say 80% of the people around carlton have a black bag. ๐ซฅ
Lego yellow says hi!
I go to the opshop and buy the weirdest looking thing that can fit a fat novel.
sold, I'm getting the one with the weird smiley clasp
Mine is hot pink ๐
Cool.
I just bought a backpack for my travelling and one of my requirements was it not be black. I chose khaki.
๐
I now use a backpack 90% of the time, but I loved my old bsirius tote - so pretty https://bsirius.com/collections/bags
Everything in Melbourne is black/grey in the winter. I used to protest it as much as possible with bright scarves, Bright coloured laptop bags etc.
๐๐ปโโ๏ธ ๐
Either a black leather look backpack or a grey and orange backpack
People that wear their backpacks on a packed PT can go shit themselves ๐ก
(I should also do a better job at posting in the correct thread)

Same with people who use margarine
๐คฌ
I use whatever's cheapest. Butter, margarine, "regular spread", I literally don't know or give a shit what the difference is
Knocked the coffee on my desk over while on a work call, said "shit" very low as the other person was speaking but don't think they heard me. Had to frantically clean the spill up while talking as coffee was dripping onto my carpet. A fair amount went onto the carpet... I've got this carpet stain remover that I've never used before, hopefully it does the trick.
I've been lucky - I've worked from this carpeted room for years and the worse floor spill has been water.
Listening to music at work on my laptop.
Can't connect Bluetooth devices to my work laptop l so using an audio cable with my headphones. Got the cable from Amazon for like $5.
Something is fucky cause the audio crackles a bit, except I'm enjoying it somehow. Gives it an analog LP feel almost.
The bug is definitely a feature
Bloody hell, these courier please people have anger issues. I heard skidding tyre noises while I was in the shower, just chalked it up to an odd midday hoon. Whatever. Then a minute later I heard somebody absolutely pounding on the door, bloody dodgy, I didn't know who TF it was (my mind went straight to the old kid) so I got out of the shower and checked the camera, and a bloke in a high vis shirt was running away from the door. Then I get an email: "CourierPlease: we've successfully delivered your parcel"
Ran across the road, in front of a car, got beeped at by the person he ran in front of, then floored it just about the second he got in his little van. Wouldn't have even had enough time to put a seatbelt on. I suppose that's what happens when you put people on very strict quotas and treat them as glorified doordash drivers but for parcels, but it's fricking ridiculous!
They are one of the worst courier companies that I absolutely would avoid on any given day of the week.
They have a horrible online rating for what they do to people with packages.
There's only certain couriers I use because of this otherwise it's auspost.
I always try to go for auspost when it's an option because they've never lost a parcel on me. There was the time they delivered the neighbours parcel to me and took mine to the post office (they were meant to take the neighbours parcel to the post office and deliver mine to my house), but that was fixed quite quickly.
I think PF Logistics goes in my book as the worst of the courier companies because of how they "delivered" my laptop charger, but Courier please goes second. They never honour my request for a signature and just forge my signature, but they generally put it in the postbox or at my door. Where as PF, they didn't even fucking bother. They threw it vaguely in the direction of my postbox and called it a day. Didn't even bother to tell me they'd delivered it for 12 or so hours.
Also Aramex delivered me back my laptop after I had to RMA it to Asus (hard drive died), and they left it about halfway down my driveway. To be fair, it was under a camera and also under the shelter of the eaves, but it would've only been 20 more steps to the front door, or even under the verandah.
I think only really auspost or startrack bother with signatures because if you don't sign for it - it's on you and you'll be going to pick it up from the post office, where as all these little courier companies can't take it to a LPO, and they usually don't open up their depots for pickups, so if you don't sign for it, they'll just have to try and deliver it to you again tomorrow, which makes more work for them. Also, although the auspost PDC boys are contractors too, I assume that either they get some sort of base pay, or they don't have such strict quotas. I think the Fourier companies are mostly just knockoff uber but for parcels. I know PF and that one with the idiotic name (ZoomToMe or some stupid shit like that) are just a couple of bloke's cramming as many parcels as possible into a corolla and delivering it vaguely in the direction of your house (if their aim is good anyway)
ironically auspost are in the middle of an obudsman fisting over failing to deliver to my house, and my local CP franchise deliveryman is a delightful fella named Kwan the cats adore. (mostly because he delivers their food)
I bought some sour worm lollies. I canโt stop eating them โน๏ธ
I'm going to have to have a word with the MIL about taking the kids out during the day.
The point is to get them to sleep. One only slept when they got back, and the other didn't sleep at all and had a nap from 5-8, meaning I only got the two of them down now.
Not to mention driving all over Melbourne with them and getting toys they don't need from op shops. I'd be fine with that but they're always cheap remote control cars without the remote,so they don't work properly and are full of tiny parts if they ever break
white bean chilli is on the stove , I think I'll serve with fresh crusty bread :)

God damn it.. I'm actually liking using the iPhone. This is unacceptable.
Turns out they've come a long way in the 11 years since I used one. Face ID for auth inside apps (not just for unlocking the phone) is a game changer. Plus app devs have clearly put just a little more love into iOS apps then their Android counterparts. It's nothing major, just little things but they're noticeable. I also love the haptics. The screen and sound seem better too.
My 2 annoyances so far are that it's a regular iPhone 15 which feels a bit small in my bear-paw and I fumble with it and CarPlay (which does look excellent in my car) doesn't have the ability to have media controls on the screen at the same time as full screen Waze like Android Auto does. Having both on the screen at the same time uses way too much screen to show the media controls but that might because my screen is portrait rather than landscape. Probably looks fine in landscape on those wide screens you get in new cars.
Anyway ffs I wasn't supposed to almost prefer it over my Android phone.
Any suggestions for an easy option for "German food" that I could take as a plate for a morning tea at work? I'd like to make Bienenstitch but I don't know if I'll have time so want a backup option.

Maybe a nice German sausage? Wouldn't even need to cook one - some of the German smallmeats are amazing.
I emailed the regional manager yesterday to see what the updates were on the upgraded locks and the replacement of my things while the property and case managers are both away. Both updates were pretty much "there is no update" though. Both of them are both MIA today as well, and the property maintenance people at child protection are dragging their feet. But apparently they did approve getting a quote for installing security cameras around the property.
I'm a little concerned about the property manager to be honest, as when she takes an unplanned day off or sick day, she usually sends me a quick message to let me know she won't be able to attend anything we've organised, or she sets up an email auto responder thingy. But it's complete silence, she just didn't show up for a couple of things that we've had on. Not even a call from her boss to let me know nobody'll be coming. It's odd. I do hope she's okay

Sounds like a good idea to stay away from that vortex of drama

MWave still haven't shipped my damn GPU. It has now been 9 days since I purchased it. I want it a week ago
Actually I really wanted it 3 months ago when I broke my current GPU, maybe that's why I'm so impatient now
I've been reinstalling my steam library onto the new hard drives, but it was saturating my entire connection, so I limited it to 1Mbps while I was doing other things. But I forgot to turn it off before I went to sleep.... So this morning I woke up to it having only downloaded 1 or 2gb... I swear as soon as I move out and can safely afford (and am actually eligible for) gigabit, I am going for it.
Another semi related ungratefulness rant: I have been trying to convince them to upgrade us to at least a 100Mbps connection almost since I moved in (we currently have 50), but when I've raised it, they just send an IT bloke around to try and install an extender (for some reason I can't get it through to them that the problem isn't that we aren't achieving the speeds they pay for, it's that they don't have us on a high enough speed tier for 4 people, particularly with me being a little data hoarder). Also, because of their internet censorship device, he's never actually been able to figure out how to get it working. I'm actually pretty sure the orgs IT dept don't have the credentials for the censorship box, hence why the extender doesn't work.
Also I really fucked with their internet setup, and I removed their internet censorship device, bought my own router, and upgraded all the wiring to cat6. If they send their IT man around again, he'll realise what I did and probably try to either replace my router or seize control of it, and reinstall the censorship box. The old router was kneecapping our speeds, and then the censorship box was quadrupling our ping, so that's probably a worse outcome than sucking it up and dealing with it.
/Rant (sorry)

With the olympics coming up thought Iโd check what time the opening ceremony is. 3:30am Saturday. Yeah nah. Iโll catch the highlights on the news.
Thereโs a good chance of them replaying the ceremony as theyโve done that in the past if memory serves me right.
You might even be able to replay it on the 9 website as well.
I did this exact same check tonight and same opinion. The timezone isn't great for seeing any of the bigger events live. Not going to be like Tokyo.
Tokyo was practically our time zone plus we were in lockdown, I've never olympicked so hard. This year might be some highlights and a few heats.
Is it normal for an apartment (one of those 2-story ones) to not be perfectly flat?
I received a desk and chair from my employer... the chair has a tendency to kinda roll in one direction.
Given the quality of builds here it's not surprising.
Should it happen? Hell no.
I opened this message while eating, put my legs in the chair, and I started rolling back and only stopped after crashing into the couch behind me.
I saw a video yesterday where a building inspector put a level on the ground in a new build and it wasn't level. Also had water leaks and the like.
I wish more building inspectors actually inspected. All I've seen from most of them is they take a quick squizzy at the front door, and as long as it closes, all good!
My earbuds have foam tips and they get dirty very easily. Soaked in dishwasher detergent, but kind of just want over ears now. Earbuds are good with glasses though.
I love my over ears. They're noise cancelling too (works much better than in ear noise cancelling imo). In ears always make my ears feel uncomfortably pressurised, small or large tips don't help. Can't have them any further out of my ear or they fall out.

ok I know I downloaded the installer image so why am I looking at what appears to be a portable USB version
How's your pf qualsys-ing going?
Alright, coffee in hand, outstanding emails all responded too.
Lots of admin work to do today, wonder if I should start now or a little bit later. Decisions, decisions.
how goods a coffee on a rainy day?!
I had to post a physical letter to the bank. I thought it would work ok because it is reply paid so I don't need to try to organise a stamp. But apprently I no longer own any envelopes. I had to utilise my craft skill and make my own envelope.
Ooh I feel like I'm in a minority. Since letters kind of predate me (at least them being commonplace and written casually), I like writing letters to people. Pretty much the only time I practice my handwriting too. Unfortunately nobody ever writes letters back to me :(
Btw you can buy 100 envelopes from Kmart for 3 or 4 bucks. It isn't a regular size letter (I think they're A6), but a standard A4 paper fits if you fold it twice (one along the short side to make it fit in a standard envelope, then once again the other way to fit it in the envelope. Also if you (or any family members who don't post anything and are okay with you doing a little bit of cheeky mail fraud) have a concession card, you can apply to the post office to get concession stamps. They're indefinitely pegged at 60c a stamp (normal stamps are at like $1.80 now I'm pretty sure). You can only buy 50 per year though
E: I realise I've been complaining about MWave a lot. I'll stop. Unless something's wrong with my order when it arrives again, I won't complain about them anymore. Also moved this one into a spoiler
