Karl Marx, born on this day in 1818, was a foundational political theorist and journalist associated with the philosophy of Marxism.

Among Marx's best-known texts are the "The Communist Manifesto" and the three-volume "Das Kapital", in which he set out to define and explain the behavior of the capitalist mode of production.

Marx's political and philosophical thought have had enormous influence on subsequent intellectual, economic and political history, and his name has been used as an adjective, a noun, and a school of social theory.

Marx's critical theories about society, economics and politics - collectively understood as Marxism - hold that human societies develop through class conflict. In capitalism, this manifests itself in the conflict between the ruling classes (known as the bourgeoisie) that control the means of production, and the working classes (known as the proletariat) that enable these means by selling their labor power in return for wages.

Employing a critical approach known as historical materialism, Marx concluded that, like previous socio-economic systems, capitalism produced internal tensions which would lead to its self-destruction and replacement by a new system known as socialism.

  • If we all get together we can co-ordinate tru anyone tipping tips well eboguh to make Brade and Liz legit believe something silly. I'm thinking anacondas. Just everyone start dealing in with sightings of large constrictor snakes or the disappearance of small animals and large snake like trails in your neighborhood. If we make it seem real and they do a full episode on the large snakes it means we can do anything. We can develop nukes

  • Made vegan lasagna, cheese-garlic bread sticks, and a caesar salad for supper/Mother's day. I got it all prepared this morning/afternoon. My sister popped in to celebrate as a surprised and she brought vegan cheese cake which we cooked some frozen blueberries and sugar as a topping, which turned out really well.

    Played

Of Catan, which I've never gotten to play before which was pretty fun. My sister and I enjoyed it, my mother didn't because she hates anything that involves decisions and planning.

Wasn't a bad day. Got some stuff done for myself too. Organized the last of my digital music library (for now). Read some Monthly Review articles from the April edition.

  • Have any fascists made the ethical argument for the social media panopticon? That if people are constantly surveilled and they know they are being surveilled, they'll behave more morally and go to heaven?

  • Re: An old True Anon tip line episode.

Mark Laita of the 'Soft White Underbelly' youtube channel has had allegations against him stating that he pays men on his show for chemsex after filming them. There is no evidence for these claims other than anonymous hearsay, but they are 100% true and he absolutely does this. I have never seen a man with worse vibes.

How are my fellow Mark Laita haters doing?

  • Happy Mother's Day to all you motherhexers out there who observe it. It was a too lovely morning, sitting in the sun and I was watching a male bird feeding a young one on a tree branch. I like to think it was giving the mama bird the day off

  • Mothers day working a kitchen report : brunch was easy as hell cause for the 4th year in a row, maybe more since I've worked the brunch was massively over prepared for at the expense of dinner. Dinner was fuuuuucked. We had a new pos system installed a couple weeks ago and it sucks. Touch screens shouldn't be in kitchens. So there has been issues thst have been getting stomped and one recent one had to do with the pasta station, which is the only one with no screen and a printer with chits wasn't getting the apps relevant to thar station coming up. Upon changing this it reset all the pasta related shit to default. None of us knew this until a massive rush around 6pm, the brunch menu was a special limited one without pastas. So when the a ticket clears on the main food line which has a screen, they double click it and it changes color and goes to the top of my expo screen. Something happened where any orders fired that included a pasta didn't translate over to my screen. At the busiest time. So suddenly I have a wall of orders and a bunch of food I don't know what to do with and since the fucking screen auto organizes and I can't re-arrange tickets I'm finding the first things that seem to be in line with common items and then trying to find the matches to clear what seems like the next chits. Meanwhile stuff is still blasting in, by the time I notice something is fucked I have all of front of house talking to me, my co pilot on the main line freaking out cause she's noticed my situation is fucked and trying to solve my problems but won't stop talking Soni can figure out what it is and then the chef wants to know what the issue I'd when I say we gotta hold production for a second. 6 people are asking me questions I need them to shut the fuck up about in order to answer them. None of these people seemed to understand this. I literally deep voice yelled 'SILENCE!' like a Saturday morning cartoon villain, figured out the problem by having 15 seconds to actually look into it and then figured out the fixes and spent the next 30 seconds andswrr8ng everything and giving specific instructions to everyone and how to get back on track and everyone was asking for a fucking explanation as if we weren't now way behind on a crazy busy night. Like...I'll tell you after, I'm calling orders, doing expo, plating every dish, cutting and garnishing every pizza, part timing on oven salads and apps. The fucking computer is bad enough let alone it being weird at the exact worst time. Last thing I need is everyone asking me the same questions in sequence while I'm doing all thar flying blind and trying yo figure it out at the same time. Also the orders re-arrange themselves when something comes in so if you're clearing them when something comes in you'll click the wrong thing and have to go through a menu to recall. Buttering Jihad now plz.

  • got this cold sore that popped up yesterday (probably due to stress idk) and it's so irritated and really uncomfortable now. i hate hate hate how it feels. also worried i'm gonna accidentally itch it in my sleep and then it will get even more upset

  • Hey, legal 1st amendment question, purely for educational purposes. Could someone get in trouble for saying something like, for example, "The people must run a stochastic terror campaign against ICE agents"?

  • You look at Silent Hill 2β€”or look at it in a certain way, at leastβ€”and what you see is how almost every game equivalent in terms of budget, scale, or mainstream exposure that’s been created in the last two decades has not, in any way, come close to what Silent Hill 2 achieved. It’s an apex in the sense that an apex symbolises and prefigures a downfall, a depletion, a gradual collapse. I haven’t played the remake yet, so I’m not passing judgement on it in terms of its own quality, but it seems to serve as the ideal metaphor for games now as opposed to games thenβ€”there was a point in time where things like Silent Hill 2 came out, and now we’re at a point in time where remakes of those things come out. It’s the reputation of Silent Hill 2 that has guaranteed its remake. Its vision and originality are commodities now, the raw materials which are best suited to be recycled and exploited by modern game factories. The world of videogames today has become the town of Silent Hill itself, inhabited by reflections, refractions, and grotesques of the pastβ€”half-formed ghosts composed of the leftovers of living souls. More astounding than the original Silent Hill 2 is how few other mainstream games with its cohesiveness, depth, and general artistic credibility have ever been made. It’s astounding that it’s astounding.

  • Lately it been warm enough to go outside at night, which is nice since I like to star gaze. So it's nice to start to be able to do that again without getting cold.

  • TV and movie sound departments be like

I will make all of the dialogue too quiet to hear and then when the audience increases the volume I will blow out their ear drums! How delightfully devilish!

  • Every season of Survivor I hope for the contestants to vote off Jeff Probst because his challenges exist only to divide the tribe and create conflict.
