My recommendation are:
sh.itjust.works (has no applications last I checked)
lemmy.ca (cuz maple syrup)
sopuli.xyz (the list is now finn-ished)
All of these have defederated the tankie instances, and are amongst the most active instances (so the odds of shutting down is lower).

  I mean, unless you are a celebrity doing a AMA, I don't see how "goofiness" can be an issue.
  
  I just want shit to work. I used to be on a smaller instance but we had a lot of downtime and eventually shut down.
- Also lemmings.world, it has Lemmings in the name which makes it the best by default. Hosted in EU.
