Property insurance? Florida as a whole is about to be completely underwater, potentially within a matter of decades. They've got bigger problems than property insurance.

A sibling is a lot easier to approach in a lot of subjects than a parent, I think. Sometimes this is what a person needs, and if their sibling is willing and able to meet them on that this is just a good personal family dynamic.

Much love and good luck. I'm from Louisiana but I don't live down that way anymore. Been hearing a lot about what the local gov is up to recently though. Things are getting rough down there. Worried about you guys.
I don't want to up and tell you your home isn't safe for you, but I do advise keeping an eye open for opportunities elsewhere. There's a reason that it's difficult for you to find public LGBTQ+ groups down there. Don't get so tied down in the bayou that you're a sitting duck, know what I mean?
In the meantime, you're not going to be a fan of this advice, but discord is a good place to find communities. It's a long shot, but if you find a server you like with good folks in it you can ask around and see if someone knows someone who knows someone.

I lost a run the other day to a series of events, one of which included me (in-game) finding and eating enough psychedelic fungus to trigger a shift in reality, which transmuted all smoke in the universe and any created thereafter, into acid. Like carbolic acid, not the fun drugsy kind.
Acid, naturally, eats through all creatures and materials in the game world, including many things you'd consider otherwise invulnerable, until it evaporates - into flammable gas.
Therefore any time an object or material caught fire (which is often, with or without player interference), it would quickly consume anything below it for several meters while feeding itself with flammable gas and spreading to any new flammable materials it uncovered.
The world very quickly became a very large mess.
Unfortunately they not only exist, they also vote.
Blocking them is good for personal mental health but does not in any way solve the problem. It just leaves them to fester inside their own echo chambers.

Once every year or two I'll pull up the song that I attempted suicide to and cry my eyes out for a while. It's good to flex your emotions in a controlled space. Helps keep you well rounded, IMO.

For legal reasons I am required to inform you that I am not a financial advisor. In fact, I am not real.
This is good advice. Most people aren't weird enough to be happy. Pay attention and you'll notice most of the super weird people, that project their weirdness and wear it openly, are pretty joyful people. They have shed societal expectation to simply exist as they wish to be.
Now there is a balance there, too far in that direction and you sometimes end up unemployed and homeless. But hell, even most van hippies are pretty happy people. You've just gotta find where your own balance is on the scale.
Now you have the time to actually write up a design document and let your half-baked idea become a fully cooked one before you drop a bunch of cash on it
It isn't a waste if people buy it. Putting M4s in the iPad lets them market it to rubes who think bigger number is better without reading the spec sheet or understanding their own requirements, and if they're already manufacturing M4s to put in other things, that's one less production line that needs to run. Sure, they could release an iPad Cheapass Edition with an M1 in it and sell it comfortably at a profit for like $80, but the market for those is likely to be small, they won't make nearly the overhead profit that the M4 iPad will, it requires an entire extra production line setup, and most importantly it isn't flashy enough for Apple. They don't want to release a product that feels cheap, even if it was specifically intended to be cheap. It's bad brand optics and they care about that a lot. Let China sell a bunch of bootleg tablets to people that want them, they're gonna do that anyway regardless if Apple gets in the train or not, and this way Apple isn't tarnishing their product lineup with a PoorPad^TM
I saw the non marriage related choices they made when I was a kid. Like hell I'm letting them choose my life partner. You're assuming all parents are rational and efficient, when many, even most of them are not. They are also just people, as prone to mistakes and bad choices as you or I. If I'm getting handcuffed to a bad decision I'd like if it was at least my own bad decision.
In 50 years I'll be nearly 80 and I'll be lucky to remember my own name. No way in hell should I be in charge of anything at that age, I wouldn't trust myself driving to the grocery store, let alone trying to govern a world power.
If I'm riddled with dementia at the time I may not remember that this was my perspective, but it is. Let the ones with skin in the game make the decisions. If I'm going to be dead in 20 years I shouldn't be making decisions with 80 year tails. Neither should our existing politicians, and the reason why is readily apparent in modern day : they won't have to live long enough to see consequences. Therefore, they're perfectly fine taking fossil fuel bribes (as an example) and condemning the rest of us to a fiery death that they won't be around to witness. "Fuck you, got mine"
