  • i really love stardew valley for a cozy co-op game. for something a little weirder and darker, crawl is a blast.

  • i had my first dog/house sitting gig last weekend. also went to the annual soap box car race which is always a blast. had a slow start to this week, but then did a small/quick group bike ride with the meetup i run. just now heading out to meet with another dog/house sitting client for a future stay, then probably hanging out somewhere downtown.

oh! and the foster dog has his specialist consult on monday, which i'm really happy about. i love fostering, but i honestly didn't expect him to stay this long, haha.

  • i guess it’ll be my birthday present to myself.

  • very true, although you still need a place (or a decent connection 🏴‍☠️) to get new material.

  • i had cut all costs i was willing to, and just started a side hustle the last couple of months. the breathing room is sooo nice, and the work is easy enough (per sitting at other people’s houses via rover).

  • also: people who travel via rv! there’s basically no signal out in the boonies, so i have a collection of dvds in my trailer for when we go camping and it’s raining.

  • serious: i love truck stop egg salad sandwiches. don’t tempt me!

  • [united states] i use a credit card for anything that i can. the perks are nice (as others have mentioned), and i never spend more than i have. i’ve never paid a penny in interest. i always pay the statement balance on the day it’s due.

  • very "airy" bread, lots of butter (on the bread), at least two kinds of cheese (provolone is a favorite), always cooked on our trusty cast iron skillet. i like to dip mine in ketchup like a heathen, but i'll do soup if i'm sick.

i also once had a mac and grilled cheese from a food truck. that was killer.

  • this thread made me hungry.

  • both clever and not scraping and saving usernames to some mass database (as far as i can tell).

  • My best friends just bought a house

ah, comparison is the thief of joy! i've seen people buy houses even though they have massive student debt. i've also seen people buy houses they couldn't really afford. or, if you're like my partner, their parents paid for their school and gave them $10k to help with the down payment on their first house. life's a racket!

other folks have already offered suggestions on how to tackle your debt, but i'd also like to throw in that ynab (paid) changed how i think about money. splitwise (free) has also been an invaluable tool for living together with somebody and sharing costs equitably.

  • i enjoy playing couch co-op with my partner. that’s all for me and multiplayer. 🙃

  • the weekend at the beach will be over tonight. i had too much work today, so i couldn't even pop out at lunchtime. still, i do think i got a bit of relaxing time in, and i feel a bit more even keeled than i have in awhile.

got my first few house sitting requests on rover. hopefully a few of them will actually go through so i can get a lil' extra money. my own dog needs a tooth pulled, but i've been putting it off because it's expensive and it's not bothering him to the point that he's not eating. hoping the rover gigs will eventually earn me enough to do that.

both dogs did really well at the beach house with my partner's parents' two dogs. one of them is ancient, but the other one is a 90lb goofball. my aussie did get nippy with him once over a toy, but i had him on a leash and was able to redirect right away.

  • thankfully he's pretty content just chilling most of the time and chewing on whatever toy i give him. he does love to play fetch, but it doesn't appear that he needs it, so we stopped once i found out he was limping.

  • i hadn't thought of a temporary ramp! we could definitely put one out front for him during recovery.

thankfully i'm not responsible for his vet bills (the rescue pays for all of that), but i'm not sure i'd be able to afford it on my own if i were. sounds like he's gonna have a lengthy stay with me.

  • he's only six, and he's a wonderful dog! he loves playing fetch (which we've halted for now, unfortunately), and i think he'd make an awesome dog for some lucky family with a few kids out there. the rescue coordinator is already looking into getting him in the books with a specialist.

  • i don't think being a small forum is necessarily a bad thing. smaller places are easier to moderate, and they tend to be more chill. i've run another forum for about 10 years, and it's still going strong with only a few hundred active users at any given time. we very rarely have issues with people upsetting the flow. we've always managed to recover when that does happen.
