  • My parents insisted I didn’t have ADHD as a kid because I had the same symptoms they had as kids and their parents just told them it was normal. Turns out ADHD has a genetic component and this is pretty common. You can find screeners online, but your best bet is to just get tested by a psychiatrist specifically. They’re the ones who can diagnose you and prescribe you proper medication. If you’re underage, this will likely require a hard conversation with your parents and if you’re in the US at least, you may need a referral from your primary care provider.

A psychiatrist will rule out differential diagnoses (things that present similarly and could explain your symptoms for other reasons) and they’ll also screen for comorbidities (other disorders you may have on top of ADHD) that could be made worse with front line ADHD medications.

    Are skinny people okay?

  • In an interview about Rahaf’s family, Ms Rachel said that Rahaf and her mother used to have meals together with her father and brothers over video call and they’ve stopped doing that because of how scarce food is. And Ms Rachel keeps posting videos of kids in Gaza surrounded by rubble watching her videos. It’s heartbreaking for the reasons you’ve stated.

  • I’ve listened to about half of this and while I don’t fully buy into the whole “design patterns don’t matter” narrative, it is genuinely interesting to see some push back on the idea that these feeds are content neutral and that everything could be solved through redesign by private corporations, which is itself a pretty neoliberal notion.

  • My desire to make money off my music killed my passion for it so completely that I stopped listening to music entirely. It was my life and my first love. I made a living and was generally considered good at it by my peers and clients. I ended up giving up a prominent spot in the local music scene because I was just so burnt out on grinding every day.

I’m just starting to get back into writing after a decade off. I’ll probably never teach again. My chops are so atrophied that I feel disabled. Like I can hear things in my head and I know how to play them. I can feel how it would feel in my fingers to play them. But my fingers feel like they’re moving through sludge. I used to literally sleep with my guitar and play while I ate. It was like an extension of my body that I’m now so divorced from.
