Do you fill in real name + info when registering for a domain?

Hi! Thinking about registering a new domain for homelab setup. Not quite sure which registrar to go with but have heard good things about Porkbun here on lemmy. But, do people fill in their actual real name, and details for these sorta things? Geuninly curious, don't want to end up on bad terms with a company. But on the other hand im just going to use this for my homelab and dont see the "need" to give away my details for this sorta thing.

Let me know how you guys do it :)

  • Personally never had a problem finding what i needed for opensuse. Its easy to add repos via yast, plus opensuse you can use both zypper plus obs package managers, the latter being quite fast and easy to use. OpenSuse also has support for rpm packages, meaning anything meant for rhel/Fedora systems can also be installed on opensuse.

You can also view all installable packages here: https://software.opensuse.org/packages

If you feel TW is too fast on the release cycle you can also try Slowroll, which is TW but with a slower release cycle.

  • Nice write up, seems like you know what you are jumping into atleast. Personally would recommend to give Bazzite a try and not rule out immutables too quickly, nothing is more solid than these variants. If not immutable, then my best experience lies with Opensuse TW by far. Super stable, yet bleeding edge.

  • Why are there no *mainstream* forks of OpenSuse?

Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm still on the learning path of Linux. But there doesn't seem to many forks of OpenSuse? There are a bunch of forks of Arch, Fedora and Debian, but why not OpenSuse? Is it a license problem or something else?

Keyboard apps stop working correctly in Voyager comment section.
  • Yeah I will do that, just wanted to chip in here first to see if it was just a me issue hehe.

  • Keyboard apps stop working correctly in Voyager comment section.
  • It wasn't an issue before, only started a few weeks ago.

  • Keyboard apps stop working correctly in Voyager comment section.
  • Pixel 7A running GrapheneOS. While there are other keyboard apps there that are Foss, none of them have worked out for me so far. I write in two different languages and don't want to switch between different layouts and such. So instead I have disabled Network access for these keyboard apps.

Based on other comments this seems to be an issue with all(?) keyboard apps.

  • Keyboard apps stop working correctly in Voyager comment section.

    Hi there.

I love this app to bits, but recently have stumbled upon a weird issue I cannot seem to resolve. Normally I use the Swift keyboard app from Microsoft but for whatever reason, only when writing a comment to someone, it doesn't work as expected. For instance I cannot use backspace to correct my writing and autocorrect gets disabled.

Ive tried to switch to googles keyboard app and the same thing happens there. This strictly only happens in comments as far as I've noticed, and not when writing this. Also only an issue here in Voyager app, nowhere else.

Has anyone stumbled upon this issue? Is it known?

Update; Created a bug-report on the matter for those interested. https://github.com/aeharding/voyager/issues/1602

Got this plant little over 2months ago, and some ofnthe leaves have started to dry out(?) or so it looks like at least. Is this a sign of too little watering? Have tried to keep water consistant, but slightly unsure what is happening.

    Any tips appriciated!

  • Oh okay good to know, is there a way to change this though? Would be "cooler" to see the total amount imo.

  • Pi-Hole question / Blocked Queries being reset each day?

Hi there, I've just done the switch from NextDNS to PiHole. Simply because I want to test it out + self-host my DNS. I set up PiHole+Unbound two days ago, and yesterday the amount of "Queries blocked" was much higher that it is now. But this morning the number was down back to 100ish. Is this normal behaviour, is it supposed to reset the counter? I'd rather it didn't. Let me know if this is my fault or a setting I've managed to miss.

    Thank you.

How do you play/stream media from your server during offline hours?

    Hi there!

Wondering what types of setup people have that allow them to, while the internet is down, still watch/stream media from their servers. I have a stacked Jellyfin library that, and would like to see this feature/setup in my own house. My Unraid server is on the other side of the house from where the living room is. Is there actually a sane way to achieve this?

This seems like a solid choice for those of use looking for a obsidian-like replacement. Personally tried all editors out there, but nothing is able to defeat my love for obsidian. However, i look forwards to trying out Haptic when it comes to Linux. Currently it only supports Web and Mac. But state Linux and Windows support is on-the-way.

Whats on your USB stick? Looking for recommendations for handy tools

Looking for recommendations for a versatile USB stick with Ventoy. I'm trying to create the "perfect, all-in-all" USB stick using Ventoy to store various ISOs and rescue tools. So far, I have the following ISOs:

    • Arch
    • OpenSuse TW
    • NixOS
    • Bazzite + AuroraDX
    • Win10 ISO
    • Clonezilla

I'm looking for suggestions on additional ISOs or tools that are compatible with Ventoy. What do you recommend adding to make my USB stick to make it more useful?
