I mentioned much of the same a while ago regarding the Pixel Fold here. I'm not even mad about the updates or the Tensor 2 chip as I knew about both before purchasing.
Anyhow, I did the same and traded for an S24 Ultra. It's a nice phone, but it's since taken the place of my Pixel Fold in my backup phone drawer. I understood that the AI features were for Samsung's apps, but they just aren't as good as Pixels imo. Pixels are just smarter smartphones. Not to say that I don't miss some of the many more features from the S24 Ultra now that I've gone back to my Pixel 8 Pro though.
If I could go back, I would rather have the Pixel Fold as a backup again in the drawer instead of the Ultra and keep using the 8 Pro as my daily driver.
I was teetering toward the Super Nintendo also with Earthbound, MK2/MK3 Ultimate, and Super Mario World. The roaming around in Super Mario 64 and flying non-stop with the birdman suit in Pilotwings 64 won me over with the N64 in the end though.
Exactly. It's in no way a bad thing for anyone. We'll see the way that it's implemented. It's the first step. r/Android is rearing its head here. Let's enjoy this for the moment
Glad that you emphasized Europe. Here in the states where iMessage is dominant, it'll make a difference.
At the end of the day it's not a bad thing. I'm also waiting for details with compatibility to be ironed out, but it's a start.
Just surprised at the whole negative energy with this announcement considering this was a "when pigs fly" or "when hell freezes over" sorta thing. Again, it's a start and hopefully Google opens it up (even if forcibly by the EU) down the road.
Samsung Messages is the only other, right?
Apple announced (via 9to5Mac) today that it's adding RCS support to the iPhone in a great boost to Android-iOS messaging...
It's happening!!!
Same. I don't even mind Tensor 2 in it. It runs fine enough and I never had any overheating. It's a beautiful piece of hardware.
My main gripe is with how heavy it is. It's tiring having to hold it for extended periods when I mostly use the outer screen (which is the perfect screen size, but that's a whole other thing). And yeah... watching media on the inner screen with a crease and with the size of the media the same as a normal smartphone... it's just something I looked over before purchasing.
I regret buying it also. But... I would have also regretted buying the Galaxy Fold, OnePlus Open, or any other foldable. Right now, my Pixel Fold just sits in a drawer as an overly expensive backup device while I use a Pixel 8 Pro as my daily. Will likely use the Fold as a trade-in for the Galaxy Ultra in January/February.
Chalk me up as one of the folks that was adamant this was due to an API mismatch.
Yikes. Low benchmarks in the case of everyday Pixel usage isn't a big deal, but prohibiting the installation without reason will make this a bigger deal than it needs to be. And I can't fault users for feeling that way.
At least you acknowledged it. The title of this post should have a misleading tag at best. There's no wonder that no other major outlets have reported on this.
Same. I've paired it wirelessly to one car and wired to the other car. Both have worked seamlessly since getting the phone last week.
No problems here.
I'm guessing here, but are any of those products on that website both purchasable AND given a guaranteed product support time? Or to make it more specific, has Google ever killed off a phone (Nexus and Pixel years, so 15 years total) prior to its end of support date?
I don't believe they have. Stadia, a non-phone product, is the closest thing. Of course it's not a phone and Google also didn't give a eol date before its release. When it was killed they refunded any purchased games. So I guess the better question is would you be fine with getting a refund in the amount of your purchase of a Pixel 8/Pro if they didn't hold up their end of the bargain?
I know some of the comments in the community are tongue-in-cheek, but if Google were to keep the prior support date or do what they did today by increasing them, folks still wouldn't be happy.
Didn't notice that initially, so thanks for pointing it out.
I really hope that it's not the same. The only thing I can think of is that the Google store mentions 24 hr battery life with footnote that mentions certain features being turned on may lower battery life. The leak today says 24 hr battery life with AOD turned on, which gives me hope. I may get disappointed come 10/4.
If it's free watch with the purchase of an 8 Pro as rumors indicate, I won't be disappointed for long.
For the US...
Droidlife has a source that says the 8 and 8 Pro are $699 and $899 respectively.
but...
9to5Google's source says $699/$999.
Also, sorry for barrage of posts to the community today. There was a ton of info put out there this morning and weekend.
There's a lot of info in the link above, including the lengthening of the updates. The link confirms security updates for 7 years, but the 5 year OS update is still a rumor at this point.
The Pixel 8 Pro will feature what Google calls a "Super Actua display" that has up to 2,400 nits of peak brightness.
Sorry for linking to that social media platform. That platform has the only source. The source does have a good track record.
Article includes official video that pretty much leaves nothing to the imagination. At least I can focus on refreshing on preorder day instead of listening to the livestream. š
A leaked video divulges the new features of the Google Pixel 8 camera which includes new manual controls and a ton of AI.
The face changing stuff with AI is crazy!
The Google Pixel 8a has unexpectedly leaked, revealing a rounded design and slick blue color, but the Pixel 8 isn't even out yet.
sigh... lol.
Fun fact: the phone has leaked 500 times this week.
>A September tradition: Google leaking its upcoming phones left and right.

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are likely to keep the SIM tray rather than go all-in on eSIM. We could also see Night Sight video on the 8 Pro.
>Ever since Apple killed the SIM tray in favor of eSIM-only in the iPhone, the world has (rightfully) been waiting to see who would follow. Would Samsung be first in Android or would OnePlus or Google step up? As it turns out, no one has taken that big leap, and the upcoming Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro arenāt likely to be the first.

Nice. Looking forward to the event. Hopefully the time between phone announcement and release is short like last year. It was only six days for me.
The watch should be interesting also. Size is supposedly the same, so maybe the processor will yield more than one day of battery life? That's my hope anyway.
Oh, I know it's anecdotal. I also know others have issues with the Pixel 6 and 7 getting really hot.
Yep... fully aware of some saying their devices are getting hot. My Pixel 6 Pro got hot exactly once while navigating here in LA. Not sure what caused it, but it was hot to the point that I had to hold it to one of the ac vents. My 7 Pro got only slightly warm occasionally and I'm having similar experiences with the Fold. Not to say that it's a normal thing, but it's hot to the extent that others have experienced.
It's like the fingerprint sensor complaint. I could repeatedly get my prints to register without fail when some others were having issues. I'm almost worried that Google is switching to an ultrasonic sensor instead of optical because I haven't had the same luck with the ultrasonic sensor that Samsung used in the S21 Ultra and S23 Ultra. I dunno. ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ
Anyhow, hope that your next phone, Pixel or otherwise, treats you better.
Same. Camera was also great, but slow as you mentioned due to the processor. Couldn't take more than a couple of pictures without stalling to process said pictures. Still was my fav along with the Nexus 5. Pixel 3 XL, Nexus 6, and Pixel 6 Pro being my least fav.
I dunno what to say besides being anecdotal also by saying my experience differs... especially with the P5.
I'm not surprised with Oneplus' battery being better as they're notorious for background app killing. It's the reason why I've only had a couple of Oneplus' phones throughout the years.
Probably not the right phone for you. Battery life in my experience has been average for me. Not great, but not awful either.
Reviews and personal experiences have been all over the place regarding the battery from what I've seen in reviews, social media, and forums. It just depends. The Pixel 7 Pro's battery has been about the same as the 14 Pro Max that I had, but worse than the 13 Pro Max. Better than the Pixel Fold that I'm using, but not as good as the Pixel 4 XL. For sure better than the Samsung Galaxy Nexus from back in the day, but not as good as my HTC 10. Definitely not as good as the Pixel 5, but better than the Pixel 6 Pro. And so forth and so on...
Depends on my personal usage, but I'm on my phone constantly. For me, battery has been middle of the road.
...And every Google product I've owned has been awful...
I don't get it. "Every Google product I've owned" makes it sound like you've owned a lot of Google products. But every single one you've "owned has been awful".
Why do you continue buying Google products if they've been awful... for you? Maybe Google isn't the right OEM for you? I mean, no one is forcing you to buy their products if they're "awful", right?
Google is hoping to change how many major Android OS updates the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro gets in a move to surpass Samsung and meet the iPhone...
Good news for those that keep their phones for multiple years. It made sense for them to do this.
You don't have much longer as I'm sure they'll stick with the early October announcement. Tensor 3 should be nice.
Stepping closer and closer to the potential launch of a new device typically means a stop first through the FCC to make sure all is well. The Google Pixel Watch 2 did that today of all days, showing itself in a couple of variants that include LTE and/or WiFi. The Pixel Watch 2 at the FCC carries...
Doesn't mention anything about the rumored processor change, but does shed light on available watch bands.
Assuming Google follows previous release schedules, we should see the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro arrive in October of this year. Because the Pixel 8 series is a Google-made product, we should know everything about them before we get anywhere close to there. An example of that fact arrived today...
Sky blue is ok, I guess. Red Nexus 5 and orange Pixel 4 XL were my favs. They're long overdue for a super vibrant, kinda out-there color.
Should be a cool phone nonetheless.
Not a phrase that my grandmother said, but one I said to her.
"Hey, Granny. I have a doozy for you."
Backstory:
My grandmother took pride in her Scrabble prowess. I spent a lot of summers growing up with her and she would always play cards, dominoes, or Scrabble with friends. She taught me, my siblings, and cousins all how to play. Thing is that she never took it easy on us, so we always got our butts handed to us when playing her.
Anyhow, I was in my mid 20s at the time and my grandmother was on the verge of beating me by 50 or so points. I was like whatever until I noticed something on the board. I looked at her, looked at the board, and looked at her again. I glared squarely in her eyes and said, "Granny, I have a doozy for you." Then I proceeded to put my tiles on the board with the word "doozy" landing on a triple word score and the "z" landing on a double letter score. An instant 84 points I think it was.
The way she looked at me was priceless. She looked at me like I stood up on the table, squatted, and took a dump on the board. I blew her butt out the water. She was not pleased. The funny thing was that she had the nerve to challenge the spelling on the off chance that it was "doozie" (which is an alternate spelling), so she lost her next turn on top of everything.
We never played again, but she was willing to take the joke in hand whenever I mentioned it... which was often. A year or so after that she passed after a couple of strokes.
Sorry if this is tldr. I tell this story once every few years or so to a friend, not for them, but to remind myself of her cause I really miss her A LOT. I haven't told anyone in a while.
So basically whenever I hear the word "doozy" in a sentence, I think of her and smile.
https://9to5google.com/2023/07/28/google-pixel-us-q2-2023-shipments/
> Pixel shipments in the US grew by 48% year-over-year in Q2, the only major brand that managed to do so. Thatās still a mere 3% of shipments over the quarter, but thatās also during a time where only a single Pixel device actually launched.
A new leak offers detailed information regarding the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro display offerings, with some good upgrades.
Not much of a difference in size for the pro, but trending in the right direction.
