Anybody else in the same boat?
  • If you can make actionable change by all means spend that energy. But letting something you cannot do anything about ruin your daily life is just stupid.

You cant change what the Trump administration is going to do by crying about it on the Internet. You CAN choose how you want to spend that energy every day though. Spend it on the little things that make your life and others better. Put it towards charitable work or combatting things going wrong locally. Don't just wallow in sadness on the Internet daily.

  • They are an American. It's not like 900 dollars is some insurmountable of money to pay off in 5 years. 180 bucks a year. 15 bucks a month.

    That's literally a Spotify subscription.

  • Rednote right now
  • I'm sorry you haven't paid off 900 in 5 years? That's kinda on you at that point.

  • Anybody else in the same boat?
  • Yeah idk. The mindset and mental health of the majority of this site are quite concerning to me. it is what it is I suppose.

  • Anybody else in the same boat?
  • What does obsessing over it every day and complaining on the Internet constantly do though? It not like Trump and his goons are gonna see all the comments y'all are making and suddenly change their minds. If there is something tangible you can do to make change absolutely do it, but letting it ruin your daily life is just letting them win.

Y'all do whatever you want. Your choice how you spend your energy.

  • Anybody else in the same boat?
  • You guys are acting like Trump is going to be driving around in a tank gunning down people that didn't vote for him.

By and large your life will not change much day-to-day. The worst thing you can do is give energy to something you cannot control. You voted and it doesn't work out. Now you focus on your daily happiness and don't try to let the big picture drag you down. There not much you can do about it anyway. May as well invest that energy into having something positive instead of dread.

  • I did it, lads.
  • My extended family is German and British. I am well aware how the gypsies are thought of by many over there.

I have lost track of how many times I have brought up gypsies when they are taking about how racist Americans are and then suddenly "it's different". They literally don't even look at it the same way. That's some wild shit.

  • The prison industrial complex and traditional slavery are two completely different beasts. I am not trying to take away from the very current and real problem with our country and its prison system, but this conversation is more talking about the good old-fashioned type of slavery that we abolished in 1865.

  • I did it, lads.
  • We ended our slavery (aside from the prison industrial complex, but that's kinda a different animal to "traditional" slavery) over 100 years ago. There are still many places in the world with slavery today that people seem less interested in talking about than our historical slavery.

I'm not trying to downplay our history but we can't exactly change the past. But we can put eyes on the current slavery going on but we often don't because people are still focusing on our old slavery. There's a real "America bad" boner on the Internet and it's always a little funny to me. Like yeah we are far from perfect, but it's a little weird to be shitting on us for something we ultimately stopped doing while other places are still actively doing it.

  • I did it, lads.
  • It is always funny when other places shit on America for our history of slavery. Like Koreans for example. They had the longest unbroken chain of slavery of any modern society and yet you'll still have some of them trying to say Americans are the worst because of our history of slavery.

It's like... All places in the world had (or still have) slavery going on. Why does the Internet seem to think we were the worst offenders???

  • Ain't no racism like Asian racism. I lived with a Chinese buddy of mine for almost 10 years. He said American racism has nothing on Asian racism. Some of the Chinese and Japanese people legitimately despise each other. Long history of atrocities between them.

  • Is it bad that I'm surprised to see a conservative sub on this site?

I've only been here a week but it has become extremely clear that this place is even further left than even reddit is.

Anyway for this actual article and the topic at hand I don't really see an issue with her being away when it started. It's not like she knew it was gonna happen for sure that week or anything.

I do hold her accountable for being woefully unprepared. Her an Newsome got some explaining to do. What happened to the billions we gave them to improve our water collection infrastructure? Cutting the fire department budget significantly? Putting people in charge that care more about hiring minorities than hiring qualified people?

  • Never a dull moment when you blow it nearly every conversation you make.
  • I'm in this picture and I don't like it.

  • I don't know where else to ask this. What do the various symbols I've seen around mean?
  • Ah. I guess that makes sense. I only ever go on social media from my phone so I will only be viewing Lemmy through the lens of Sync I guess. Thanks for the info.

  • I don't know where else to ask this. What do the various symbols I've seen around mean?
  • If that's intentional that seems like a bad idea. Just gonna lead to confusion on the users end and more posts asking why things are "broken".

  • I don't know where else to ask this. What do the various symbols I've seen around mean?
  • Thank you for the info. Are there any other symbols or site quirks I should know about?

  • I don't know where else to ask this. What do the various symbols I've seen around mean?
  • Rule 1 for Lemmy overall or that specific sub? Cause I don't see any rules listed under the "about" tab. I didn't break rule 1 as its written as far as I can tell. So that just feels like mod abuse because they didn't like what I said or something.

I also didn't get any sort of notification for this temporary ban. Is that intentional? It was simply giving me "network errors" whenever I tried to upvote something and the feedback for the user was very unclear.

I know I'm asking a lot of questions but can anyone see the ban logs for everything? I am obviously very new and still trying to figure out how this whole shindig works.

Edit: Thank you for the info. It was very thorough and you didn't have to do all those links and everything. But it was very appreciated.

Obviously I understand the trash can icon, but I didn't delete my own comment so is that telling me the mods or the original poster deleted my comment? Does the symbol on the right mean they blocked me?

I tried finding info anywhere in the sync app and looked for Lemmy FAQ pages but none of them had anything on the symbols anywhere.

  • ....do you even know where the term left and right wing started??? The Democratic party definitely has more overlap with the left than the right.

I'm curious what alternate reality definition you're using though. Please explain your thoughts process. Show your work.

  • Yes... And most of those saboteurs come from inside the house. Look at all the Pro Palestine people who either skipped the vote because they were mad at the Democrats or they voted against them on this single issue thinking that Trump was somehow going to make the situation over there any better.

I'll never deny that Republicans and the greater right do pretty much everything in their power to block or trip up the Democrats whenever possible, but you also have to admit that the Democrats have their own internal issues that are the cause of much of their own dysfunction.
