Of course, the intent and meaning is clear from the wording alone to anyone looking at it in good faith. It isn't just talking about sports but trying to discredit and delegitimize trans people and especially trans women.
However the foot in the door is allowed because there are people whose purpose for being came to be preventing the very few trans people in sports which comes up again and again repeatedly in any competition now including of course against cis people.
This is just vile. It is so difficult to witness a state's whole weight utilized to persecute and disenfranchise the few trans people involved in sports this way.
Entire state wielded just to serve the compulsive thoughts of some who are obsessed about trans people and want to take it out on them by not only stealing joy from the ones who want to participate in sports but also word it in the most insultingly self-satisfied way possible.
This is just romanticizing suffering for purpose of anti-intellectualism. Nobody is capable of contextualizing all they go through let alone formulate that into a coherent worldview without prior cumulative analysis and knowledge. Even those who believe they do like this romanticization do so because they had some prior familiarity with the ideas, probably through second-hand knowledge, to relate it to theory or communism.
It is natural conclusion of orientalization with cultural hegemony of West that the orientalized will adopt the orientalist perspectives. This is especially true for arbitrary and inauthentic attempts at culture like Saudi monarchy does with its pseudo-revivalism.
Writing scripts have a tendency to shape the languages that are used by them, this is even true for the spoken language in low literacy societies in past. Even if English could not be written well enough with Chinese script now if it was used for a while it would be influenced by it as more of its rules would diffuse to the language and conventions or new meanings would develop. If anything the fact that there are similar features in languages as different as Chinese and Japanese or Arabic and Persian is all the proof one needs one could see this happen in just a few generations in English and Chinese which are similar in many ways despite the different language families.
It's very strange to me to see how people now seem to be using death of author to completely disconnect the artist from their work in terms of culpability or consequence. I used to never see it as anything but meaning of a work is not beholden to author intent, whether due to author intent being unknown or the meaning transcending author's own intent or even it betraying the author.
I didn't even know there were other places connected to this I came here because it's an extraordinarily welcoming leftist space that is fun to browse.
It's another symptom of alienation. People try to reclaim agency by acting out against what seems to fall out of control of industry and media. America is an urban, developed society so things like raw milk and meat only diets seem both authentic and transgressive. There is a certain level of glamour to these things because they are out of sight for most almost all their life, even if they buy their raw milk in a carton and their meat prepackaged in a grocery store.
It's impressive what the collective human effort can accomplish when enough people put their minds and will to it.
I have stopped eating basically anything packaged, cutting few things out first and over time practically all of it. It wasn't an especially conscious effort even, I feel like I might have fallen out of test groups because I don't even particularly enjoy those foods now even as massive sweet tooth. Maybe it was because I became more aware of the contents and ingredients of food and stopped making the associations I once made.
I definitely agree that it's a topic that's overpoliced and there are certain unhealthy behaviors that are glorified. In particular I have been myself tired and critical of all the health influencer and social media information peddlers who specialize over health topics while being sensationalist and seem to made with aim of making people panic. In particular, bodybuilders and weightlifters being such an extensive part of this when it is precisely those that can promote behaviors that are unhealthy both mentally and physically is something I came to greatly dislike recently with my observation that so much information and advice regarding self-care being monopolized by lifters who may or may not be on substances not to even mention crooks and grifters selling things like carnivore diets and what not.
However it seems that there is an argument being made specifically that being overweight is not the cause of certain health complications ascribed to it, which I'll try to look up now.
Thank you. I am assuming her books also go over this topic? I tend to prefer reading over either listening or watching to acquire information for educational purposes and leave podcasts for entertainment only. I'll specifically check the books.
I understand being overweight is a systematic and structural situation, I understand everyone is free to possess their body in whichever form they are comfortable in and nobody should receive unsolicited advice or unrequired criticism regarding their bodily autonomy, I understand at every turn there are circumstances beyond one's own control and responsibility regarding weight and weight loss. I also understand that it can be difficult to diet and exercise even if one is actively trying to lose weight and nobody is obliged to lose weight in the first place if they don't feel they need to. I also have seen examples of institutional and medical fatphobia on top of widespread fatphobia in popular cultural and media in general. I see all the time people give unsolicited advice with personal anecdotes independent of context of the interaction and abuse fat people receive just for existing and control others try to exert over their life and their situation.
However one thing that I don't understand here is the suggestion that being overweight doesn't cause any issues at all. I am not here to judge but it seems well-researched and readily apparent that being overweight is cause for great deal of health complications and losing weight can alleviate those complications that are caused by being overweight. This again is not a disagreement that there is fatphobia in medicine where people have their issues unrelated to weight or weight loss go untreated because any health issue is simply treated as caused by being overweight and fat people don't get same attention and care regarding their health by medical personnel. I am just simply not understanding how so much research regarding complications caused by being overweight can all be false independent of that. This is regarding specifically only things which weight loss has been documented to directly alleviate and no other correlational complications which may or may not be related to one's weight.
Compromising on legitimate issues to get a crumb of concession on other issues will only lead to sacrificing all your principles to meet fascism in the middle. Problem with leftist in Europe isn't that they don't compromise enough, problem is that they appear as single-minded by compromising too much and letting their detractors engage them on issues like Antisemitism and Trans rights. Meanwhile you can have literal Nazis in European right and its overseas supporters like court eunuch Elon cast a wide net and compromise on nothing manage to keep pushing the boundaries of acceptable and moderate fascism.
They keep inventing new types of guys all the time. My condolences to any who suffered and continue to suffer because people keep letting empty ideology poison their thoughts until they become unhinged like this.
First rule of Victoria 3 and really any Paradox game is that there are tons of data and a lot of things happening which can be overwhelming but learning the game is just filtering out what matters from a bunch of things that don't matter. More you play the more you can realize what matters so it's easier to find out what doesn't, that's all. Can't really learn it without first playing it badly.
The point is women's proletarianization and emancipation didn't happen to increase profits of the capitalist class and it certainly wasn't granted to increase profits by paying them less in factories or wherever else. It happened because of changes in material condition due to industrialization and pressure from women to have equal part in their proletarianization. Wartime conditions made that more easily possible because interests of society, state and also preservation of capitalist order triumphed short term profit motives and found social support due to reality on the ground and "home front" but that's exactly why it didn't happen to increase profits.
It is true that capitalists conceded this to prevent revolution and indeed didn't even fully concede it since a large part of unpaid labor was and still is rested on women, such as housework and child rearing or has its costs burdened by public while its profits are taken by state such as food aid, maternity aid, child benefits and other forms of welfare. However these are not because capitalists included women in labor pool to increase their profits but to cut costs of women in labor pool. Khamenei is promoting a common and false idea that women in workplace reduced the wages in general and was a ploy by the capitalists or something similar. It wasn't and it wasn't a minimalist change either.
As for profit interest, it is always short term. That's also why destroying the planet might not seem realistic but it is ultimately what is happening. In case of women, industrialization and disenfranchisement of women destroyed women's livelihoods and created conditions that allowed complete entrapment of women in households where before they were participants in if not equal. It would both figuratively and literally destroy women but that was ultimately not acceptable to society or women. That's not because of any clemency or trick by the capitalists, the trick is making people believe women are allowed to work because capitalists made it possible.
Khamenei is wrong on both accounts, the proletarianization of women didn't happen on account of capitalist class for profit motive but due to state-level national interest that overrode profit driven structural changes that were happening within Western economies. Now of course capitalist class not only can and often did mobilize state for profit motive but rather outright prefers to utilize state for its interest but wartime conditions that threatens survival of capital class created a different equation in which self-preservation was enough of a pressure.
One cannot accept the suggestion that women only acquired rights on clemency of capitalists to benefit of capitalists. Because not only is it false and gives into the exact sort of tautology that Khamenei spouts here that appears correct but also lets all sorts of reactionaries make false arguments about role of women (and minors, minorities and all types of exploited groups). All sorts of worker liberation is against capitalist self-interest and are only conceded with enough pressure in which the other outcome is worse for their class interest.
Women's liberation follows capitalism destroying the livelihood of women by uneven proletarianization that subjugated women to exploited labor for benefit of capital class, in which if profit interest was followed they would rather women be extinct which is obviously against the interest of women in question and functioning society in general as profit interest usually is. Women managed to acquire enough of a leverage to change this state of affairs due to pressure of wartime conditions that made women even more essential and made profit interest a temporarily secondary concern.
