  • well the the learning curve for new users is flat and adoption of the app will be more acceptable to more people.

I think it's a smart idea - they can always make changes to the UI in time as the platform gets more people.

  • but the reality is that the vast majority of people don’t agree with many of the views that are overrepresented on left-wing social media platforms like Lemmy

Is this true? Or is this just "people you know" and what the media you consume tells you?

If it is true then adding in the sources of where you got this information would really help your argument. Hell you may actually get more people to agree with you if you have solid evidence of what you said.

If this is just what "feels" right to you or if this is just something that other people told you is right then maybe look into that and see if reality lines up with what you are feeling and hearing.

  • OP isn't wrong and neither are you. Democrats didn't show up, republicans did that is why Harris lost.

But Harris lost because of everything you wrote as well.

  • Nothing kills the joy of a hobby faster than trying to make a living out of it.

It's one of the symptoms of the SYSTEM when a kid shows talent and/or strong interest in a thing, it could be most anything, the adults that this child looks to for guidance push them to make this interest and/or talent into a career. And as soon as that suggestion takes root in that child's head then it just time before the hobby/talent is abandoned with regret and sadness.

This may not be universal but it's not rare either - as you know first hand.

Hope one day you can, if you want, get back to what drew you towards playing music in the first place and I hope you find joy in it for nothing more than that.

  • so far I haven’t seen any credible systemic solutions

There are many credible systemic solutions to this problem but over the past 40+ years those solutions have been watered down and killed off.

    Things like:

    • High tax rate on the wealthy and a well funded IRS to enforce those laws
    • Strong regulations and well funded departments to enforce those regulations
    • Better education for the population at large and enough funding to give all members of the country free access to it
    • Strong labor unions and an well funded FTC to help protect them
    • A strong and FAIR justice system and the funding to keep it fair

    I'm sure there are others

  • Maybe a bit JFK, a bit Bernie but younger, and bit of the angry Anthony Weiner ...

  • So we’re still in a medieval swamp

We might be. But right now the left is just foundering in the political winds leaderless and it shows.

    • Obama was the last charismatic leader and many people were disappointed with his tenure.
    • Biden just disappeared after he got into office
    • Pelosi and Schumer are both are extremely weak when it comes to getting the voting base excited.

Who else is there? Bernie? He is good, had the governance nerd about him and he could connect to a disillusioned base but he is old

    AOC? Maybe.

I'm sure there are others that can do this and I agree with you that they need to be nurtured from local politics. I also believe that people on the left need to understand that no leader will be their type of perfect and be okay with that.

  • I genuinely feel that until the left gets a charismatic vocal leader that a large percentage of people want to support nothing will happen on a large organized way. There will probably be more individuals that will show there frustration in violent ways but nothing that will really make a significant change to the path we are on. And actually the violence will just strengthen the right's justification to crackdown more on "violent left" and depending on who the victims of this violence is against could drive more people to agree with them.

  • Honestly this report could have rock solid evidence of treason, pedophilia, murder, drug usage/dealing and election tampering. It could have eye witness reports, links to video testimony, shit it could have trump himself admitting to doing all of these things and it would have 0 effect on the support he has.

Weirdly trump and his lawyers don't even seem to understand this.

  • Then trump gets to put in a worse person

  • It is a mental disease

Yes. As a completely uneducated non-certified internet therapist I'd say that disease is fear. I really believe that those people that strive for more and more do so to try to fix a fear of not having enough. Or a fear of not being enough. Instead of actually trying to recognize the this fear and controlling it, they just do the one thing that can temporarily make them less fearful and that is make more, control more.

  • How do you tell someone the country they’ve loved for 50 years is harboring a growing faction that wishes he’d never come?

I think these three words in this sentence says a lot about the author. My guess is they felt that America didn't really have a racist population or felt it was small? When in reality it's always been quite large but mostly quite. Where now this population doesn't need to whisper anymore and they are seeing it for the first time.

  • Some of the most frugal, penny pitching people I know are also some of the wealthiest people I know.

  • Post polio syndrome hits people that contracted polio in the first place just 30+ years later. So you not hearing about it has more to do with you not knowing people that contracted polio than it's eradication.

  • My feeling, and I've posted about before, is that the progressive wing doesn't have a leader that inspires people to take action. Bernie and AOC are pretty much the only two that have any national recognition but they are playing the game from inside. I truly believe that for the progressive side to actually make inroads and to have the power to hold the right-wing and corporate democrats accountable they need a very intelligent brash leader. Some one that can fire up the base and get people to want to do more than vent some steam online.

But until that person comes into reality, the progressives will just be a bunch of squawking angry individuals blowing steam off online and being continually ignored by the rest of the political spectrum and the national media.

  • I’m still pissed we as citizenry didn’t stand up and demand what we deserve

This will only happen if there is someone that the progressive democrats can get behind. Someone like Bernie but younger and more angry. Someone that will call out the bullshit and do it in a way that will get the attention of the big media corporations. I hate to say it but a progressive trump, but smarter (which shouldn't be difficult) and genuinely out to better the lives of the American citizens. And I genuinely hope that this unicorn exists.

  • The working class gives the wealthy their blood and sweat and the wealthy turn it into urine and piss it back on their heads and then tell the working class the reason they smell like piss is because of immigrants.

  • The republicans didn't and I'm guessing don't like his political ideologies, they were waayy to progressive for even the 70's - 80's GOP. I also heard that he was a bit of a micro manager for a boss but people did like to work for him.

I always appreciated his more progressive ideas and we need at least that again soon. RIP Jimmy Carter.
