What are you reading/watching this month?
  • Nothing specifically planned, just continuing with the stuff I was already reading. My Feelings can Wait, and My Intern Bullied Me Again have been pretty enjoyable for the most part, and you've already mentioned. A surprisingly good one is Talk Dirty To Me, alot of deeper ideas behind it.

  • Why are you trans? Wrong answers only.
  • I best celeste

Missed the part about being legally required to trans your gender after doing it

  • Study reveals some teens receive 5,000 notifications daily, most spend almost two hours on TikTok | Kids officially don't like Facebook
    1. disable notifications for most apps. I'm not sure if you can do it for iPhone, but any android phone, you can stop any app from sending any type of notification, even separating based on category. Eg. Turning off all youtube notifications except for security ones.

    2. Have your kid read books, this will do wonders in helping them get ahead near the start of their school life, as well as doing wonders on their creativity and imagination.

    3. Limit their screen time, and force them to find something else to do with their time. My mum did this to me, I hated it growing up, but I'm incredibly grateful now. It forced me to find ways to have fun without technology.

    4. Drop these restrictions down when they are a teenager. Teenagers want freedom. Hopefully, through making your kid read books while growing up, they will choose to read books in their teenage years. I know I did, and both my sisters did.

Although this is the thoughts from someone who is 20, going off their own recent experience and from watching their siblings, I would definitely love to hear thoughts from others about this, tho.

  • Comment chain becomes unreadable with depth
  • So much space, don't know why people are complaining

  • "God works in mysterious ways" basically means "this doesn't make any sense to me, but I'm gonna ignore it"
  • Honestly, if I was a God, I would create the universe, then just watch how it unfolds, why would I interfere to save what is the equivalent of ants to me?

  • DuckDuckGo CEO says Google kills competition through phone deals that make it hard for users to switch search engines
  • Interesting, I'm using an s20fe for around 3 years now, and haven't had it happen once, was using an a50 before that, and don't remember it happening there either

  • Google Flat-Out Refuses to Bargain With Workers, Prompting YouTube Music Strike
  • For me, every other music app is missing alot of the songs I want to listen to (Cover songs, and remixes are the big 2) and they are only available on yt music.

  • Do you pirate? And do you justify pirating? i.e., what is your piracy philosophy?
  • I still pirate my music, using YouTube music revanced, but the main reason I do it is because I find it to expensive for how often I use it. I don't use it that often, mainly just when cooking dinner, if there was a way for me to use YouTube music for $5 a month, I would probably pay for it.

Also for me it has to be YouTube music, as alot of the songs I listen to aren't on other platforms, (song covers, and remixes).

  • Do you pirate? And do you justify pirating? i.e., what is your piracy philosophy?
  • Yes, I pirate, and I pirate alot. Games, books, shows, software, I do it all. But I also buy stuff, mainly games, occasionally books. I'm am not in a position where I have the sort of money to buy everything I want.

My piracy philosophy is mainly to almost always pirate it first. If I like the game enough, I'll buy the game when I have the money. I have done this alot, A Hat in Time, Hollow Knight, and recently Baldurs Gate 3.

With books it's alot more difficult, as they tend to be alot more expensive than games, especially for the series I read. (Manga and Light Novels). As there will fairly often be around 30$ per volume where I live, and close to 12 volumes total. And that's if you can even buy them in the country, or if they have even been translated officially, which if they haven't, then piracy is your only choice to read it.

Regarding shows, I basically only watch Anime, and the only way to really stream Anime is crunchyroll, which region locks alot of the shows, gives hardly any money back to the actual creators of the shows, then uses the money they get to make awful shows. Pirating anime is realistically the only way to enjoy it hassle free.

For software, everything is license based now, I'm willing to do one off purchases at a reasonable price (something like steam wallpaper engine), but I hate recurring fees. I pirate software like photoshop.

Ultimately piracy isn't really as bad as people tend to think it is, it's largely just people enjoying the stuff that they would never have been able to pay to enjoy anyway. It's especially good for people with less disposable income in helping them find where they can spend the money on things they enjoy, such as with me with the games I mentioned earlier.

  • Wait, is Unity allowed to just change its fee structure like that? | Confusing, contradictory terms of service clauses leave potential opening for lawsuits.
  • Right now, few, but in 6 months, 95% of the studios that used Unity will be using Godot, simply because it's much lighter and is much more suited for the Unity style of game (Hollow Knight, Celeste, Among US, etc) than unreal is.

  • Windows pc calling home (even while asleep)
  • I had something similar a while back, where it was waking up from sleep for no reason. I can't remember the exact reason, but it had to do with a hardware being allowed to wake the device. I disabled it from being able to wake the machine and haven't had a problem again. You can use the cmd to find which device woke your pc.

  • Unity Software Inc's President and CEO John Riccitiello Sells 2,000 Shares
  • I liked using unity cause it was faster, more light weight, and had much more community based things around it. I've been mainly developing in unreal this past year due to it being a group thing, but I'm gonna be fully switching over to Godot for any personal or individual development now.

  • Why Unity's New Install Fees Are Spurring Massive Backlash Among Game Developers - IGN
  • I can see why you would think that, but there's alot of stuff unreal just isn't that good at, things like 2d games are a massive struggle to work with in unreal, so it'll gain more popularity, but mainly from devs making 3d games with a focus on high graphics

  • Eminem tells Republican Vivek Ramaswamy to stop rapping his songs
  • Cover songs have always been a copyright violation, it's just that musicians don't go after them cause they will almost always look like the asshole for doing so, and the companies normally dont because the amount of money they would be able to get out of the lawsuit wouldn't normally be worth it.

    3.8 Spiral Abyss difficultly
  • Yeah, it's been like this for a while now, although 12-2 and 12-3 are usually much more difficult than this rotation. A few patches back though the hardest chamber was 12-3, it's good that they changed this to 12-1 because it's easier to change teams and try new strategies.

  • 3.8 Spiral Abyss difficultly
  • I still think 12-1 is too difficult compared to the other chambers and jumping from floor 11, but so much better than last rotation, 12-2 and 12-3 are at the perfect level tho

  • What's a series that shocked you?

Whether that be the good kind of shock or the bad, maybe a series was better than expected, maybe it was worse, maybe the ending was awful, maybe the ending was fantastic, maybe it was far darker and real than you were expecting, or maybe far less.

For me it's definitely White Angels Have No Wings, how far it was willing to go in terms of the characters, how it built up to the ending, and how it ended, just shocking to the core.

On the other hand though is Lily, excellent 9/10 throughout most of the story, a nice slow burn with realistic character and relationship developments, then just an awful ending that betrays the core of one of the characters.

Kiss & White Lily for My Dearest Girl

What a fantastic manga this one was, seeing their relationship grow and develop, seeing them both change to become better people throughout the series, and watching the relationships of their friends and classmates develop as well, honestly incredible. Definitely give it a read if you get the chance.
