Merry 9/11 and Happy Holidays - New General Megathread for the 11th-13th of September 2024
  • I spent my 9/11 learning that insurance aint covering the surgery I need on my tailbone and the only surgeon that will do it will only do it two days before I was supposed to fly to my family for thanksgiving vacation and recovery involves no sitting. So no thxgiving this year, no seeing family, all PTO is going towards recovery, and I'm paying out of pocket (putting in on credit, there's nothing in the pocket). Oh an no refunds on the flight ticket even with medical emergency. Happy 9/11!

  • Andrew Yang gets Coconut Pilled
  • His insights are sooooo boilerplate yet he absolutely insists on being some outsider thinker. He literally just sounds like teenaged me after watching a season of Penn & Teller Bullshit.

I'm calling for caps on game files sizes until we figure out what the hell is going on
  • I don't care about campaign, I don't care about Memezone, I just want to drink some beer after work and unwind in some deathmatch, a thing that videogames have offered for like almost 30 years now, in a game that's actually populated. 217 GB FOR THIS??? Wonder how much of that is 4k textures that I'm not going to even use.

  • His hypermanic anti-maga phase is good actually. Only popular figure I see actually articulating and addressing the violent maga movement is applying to the rest of us. Critical support for Mr. Buttfartzi the fantastic moron

  • You can only do this once, but you can get out of jury duty by saying "I looked up the case beforehand".
  • My case was lawsuit (slip and fall in a restaurant) and when they asked the pool if you think there should be caps on lawsuit payouts, I shot my hand up. We had a 15 minute break and I was the only one not called back in.

So the real trick is to signal that you're not in the lawyer's monetary best interest.

  • There's a serious chance my workplace is going on strike soon. Advice on striking and work stoppages?

My workplace, a library in a red state, might seriously be going on strike soon. The board has been invaded by rightoids and they're floating the idea of introducing a content rating system for the books (its rightoids going after libraries like you've seen) that obviously is in bad faith and will be used to ban LGBT content, left wing theory, etc. We have multiple librarians threatening to quit, and at our morning meeting our director starting talking about a work stoppage. The (open to the public) board meeting is tomorrow night, and if things go bad, its probably strike time. The old lady librarians have actually had enough of right wing bullshit and are ready to risk their incomes, it's actually happening folks.

I'm just looking for general advice on doing this stuff. Like what should I prepare, who if anybody should I contact (for support)? We are not union.
