US Kingfisher seaplane, Florida, USA, WW2, 1942?
  • Okay, so in the background is a Consolidated P2Y seaplane. Those were retired and withdrawn from service in 1941 and sent back to Naval Air Station Pensacola. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consolidated_P2Y

So if it's 1942, then it has to be in Florida at least.

But how do we know if it's 1942?? 😨

  • Britain’s ‘deep state’ thwarted my plans, Liz Truss tells US far-right summit
  • That's weird because as I recall it, what happened is that her administration proposed an economic plan which caused a brief economic crisis because I guess they thought they knew more than actual economists - sort of like 5 year olds that think they know more than their parents.

"The deep state." I guess, if by that you actually mean "the free market"...

  • Power supply for this little fella
  • The higher amperage rating is not really relevant - that just indicates the max current that the power supply can provide. If the device pulls less than that, it isn't a problem.

However, the polarity of the power supply is very relevant. If it's is the opposite of what the ZX81 needs, and you powered it up, then yes, you may have damaged something.

The polarity should be shown on the power supply - usually it's a diagram with three circles which illustrate which part of the connector is positive and which part is negative. There is often times one on the piece of equipment as well. Those diagrams need to match.

  • ‘It’s That Simple’: Mark Meckler Says The Only Way To Secure The Border Is By Invading Mexico
  • The War in Iraq lasted 8 years and cost over 1 trillion dollars.

So aside from the immense risk of starting a war with a nation right next door to you, ...aside from the fact that there would be no clear strategic objectives, it would also cost a fortune.

If the US wass really serious about supporting the Mexican government against the cartels, then they would start with increasing financial aid to said government. But these very same people would probably be against that idea.

  • Donald Trump says he would encourage Russia to attack Nato allies who pay too little
  • I think it bears pointing out that both the UK and France have their own nuclear weapons and are ultimately not beholden to the US.

So encouraging Russian aggression with the implicit notion that the US wouldn't do anything in response to an attack actually makes nuclear war more likely because even if we didn't respond... they would still feel compelled to.

  • Who gives a shit if 1 in 4 high schools identifies as something other than straight?

How about focus on the actual commandments Jesus taught, which by the way, were: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind" and "Love your neighbor as yourself". FFS.

  • Americans don't want to fight for their country anymore
  • Yea some of these are pretty cherry picked.

I mean "the Roman Empire" in the loosest term, from the beginning of Rome's expansion out of Italy, to the fall of Constantinople in the east, was over 1700 years.

And the Ottoman Empire was still very much alive and threatening Europe into the 18th century before they began their terminal decline.

Ohio voters enshrine abortion access in constitution in latest statewide win for reproductive rights
  • The Republicans in charge in Ohio brought this on themselves when they passed their absurd 6 week abortion ban with no exceptions for rape and incest. The citizen-initiated constitutional amendment gathered steam as a direct result of that.

The lesson should be: when you pander to the extremists in your party, you actually accomplish the opposite of what you wanted.

  • Glazed over eyes, thinning hairline; Mr. Pringle remembered back to when he first started as mascot all those years ago - life seemed so full of promise. Now he found himself stuck in middle age - his wife doesn't listen to him anymore, he's begun dying his graying mustache black. As he stared blankly out from the container, he wondered - can one ever really regain that which has been lost? Mr. Pringle had the experience - he just wished he had the answers...

  • Nuclear War
  • It's Balance of Power, which came out in 1985. It was a geopolitical simulator where you either play as the USA or the USSR. The goal is to gain influence across the world by sending economic and military aid, fighting proxy wars, stuff like that. There was also a newer version that came out in I think 1990 which introduced some newer features and slightly better graphics.

  • Trump prosecutions consume campaign funds and messaging as charges mount
  • Read the indictment. It says he specifically went behind his own lawyers' backs to remove the classified documents from where they were stored and moved them to his personal residence after they had already been subpoenaed. ...and then basically lied to his own lawyers. The prosecution is going to make the case that this was obstruction of justice.
