It's a weird flick and I'm kinda not surprised it's not out there. Sadly, I hate the ending.

Linux Friendly Wired Gaming Mouse No RGB

Soliciting Recommendations for a Linux Friendly Wired Gaming Mouse.

Ideally:

  • No RGB (or at least has linux software compatibility to turn off the RGB craziness without terminal commands)
  • Wired (USB-A or USB-C)
  • Scroll Wheel that has left and right movement for scrolling left and right on wide pages when browsing interwebs)
  • Two programmable buttons by the thumb (I use it for forward/back for internet browsing, and for hotkeys for gaming)
  • DPI increase/decrease buttons
  • Asymmetrical Ergonomic shape for a large hand

I have a couple of Corsair Sabre RGB Pro, Wired and Wireless but the RBG is too crazy on the new wired version and I don't have access to a MAC or Windows PC to install the Corsair Software to program the mouse to be less Epileptic Seizure Techno Rave Dance Party RGB I'M NOW LEGALLY BLIND Insanity. I wasn't able to get any linux hacks/terminal commands to work to edit or turn off the RGB.

Watches @lemmy.ml

I'm looking for info/article on a CASIO mod I saw a few months back.

I remember seeing that someone designed and was reselling a PCB that fit in a regular ol Casio digital case, and it did a bunch of cool stuff. I cannot find it and was hoping I could get some fellow watch nerds on the case.

Please help out if you can, and thanks in advance.

Anime Phone Cases Suggestions

Is there a better way to shop for anime phone cases than browsing vague listings on Amazon and eBay?

I've been wanting to replace the case on my pixel 6. But even when I specify pixel 6 I've been mostly getting iPhone cases.

Thanks a million xoxo

Edit: thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Knife-buying advice

Hello knife people, I (very much not a knife person) have been suckered in by dual_sport_dork’s posts and am finally biting the bullet and buying one of those knives. I know approximately nothing about knives except what weird knife Wednesday has taught me, which is mostly how to shit talk cursed knock-offs, so I’m hoping for some advice on how to stick the landing of my jump into this hobby.

I’m trying to buy HUAAO’s Bugout 535 ripoff, and this knife-buying-experience is off to a rocky start because the Amazon link on dual_sport_dork’s writeup tells me shipping isn’t available to my region. Maybe this is just seller-related, maybe these knives are illegal in Canada, I don’t know and to be real honest I don’t give a fuck. I found knivesprecisionedge.com, which claims to b

Connect for Lemmy App @lemmy.ca

Option to see a list of hidden/visited posts

Connect automatically hides every post I click on. It also, at least on my phone, often closes down and restarts when I switch apps or lock my phone which causes to me lose any comment I was in the middle of typing because, even with drafts ON, it would forever hide that post and there's no where for me to find it again. This has been the most frustrating app feature and nothing comes close to it.

Btw I tried to disable every 'hide post' option in settings, but Connect still hides every post I open once.

A history of visited or hidden posts will solve the issue.

I'd also like to thank the app devlopers for keeping the app light, fast, and ad-free at least for the time being.

Blocking a user hides their content in comments, but it still shows up in inbox when viewing all as well as in comment chains in the profile view. It would be great if blocked users didn't show up in these places.

Let me know if there's more info needed.

Automatic backups when PC comes online

I have a proxmox+Debian+docker server and I'm looking to setup my backups so that they get backed up (DUH) on my Linux PC whenever it comes online on the local network.

I'm not sure if what's best is backing up locally and having something else handling the copying, how to have those backup run only if they haven't run in a while regardless of the availability of the PC, if it's best to have the PC run the logic or to keep the control over it on the server.

Mostly I don't want to waste space on my server because it's limited...

I don't know the what and I don't know the how, currently, any input is appreciated.

Retro Recommendations

I'm trying my best to dive back into the past and play all the gems that I missed as a kid because I was either born too late or too much of a kid to consider playing them. I found myself really disappointed going back to the old mario nes/snes titles because they felt really bad to play as I've become accustomed to modern platformer design sensibilities (like coyote time and responsive movement).

Are there any oldies+goldies that have stood up to the test of time and not shown their age in the same way? Or are so good that they're worth playing despite showing their age? Preferably avoiding racing, sports, and final fantasy-esque titles. Not really interested in anything more recent than PS2 era either.

I already have Earthbound in my sights as it isn't one I've played before but it comes highly recommended.

Working Factorio MacOS Piracy Link

Been trying to play Factorio with my gf and cousin, who both use ARM Macbooks. Via bitsearch I was able to find a couple Factorio torrents that include MacOS, but despite allegedly having seeders, I wasn't able to get the download to work (even with DHT enabled).

Does anyone know where I can find a working download link? To be clear, every torrent I found didn't actually have seeders when I put it into the torrent client. At least a few years ago, I was able to a cracked Factorio MacOS version.

(Windows version via Wine works on Linux, but not MacOS (even via Whisky). Installing Asahi is not an option, but an idea I entertained).

Fork an open source version of Connect (suggestions and discussion welcomed)

Before I get into my comments, I just want to ask that if you haven't bought the dev a coffee, please buy him a coffee. Personally, I have bought several with the intent of covering for those who cannot. Our dev has earned it.

I am just going to say that Connect is awesome. Even through early development, when there were huge issues, it progressed at a good pace. And yeah, it has gotten super stable and functions great as a simple and easy to use Lemmy client.

I would also like to make clear that I respect this app as the sole devs creation. He/She is 100% able to direct this project as they see fit. Period.

However. One person development teams can be a serious risk to the longevity and stability of an app. People get tired and burned out. People have actual lives outside of working on a single app. People can just vanish from dev work. That is all normal.

With the recent Lemmy instance updates and some subtle bugs that are showing, my concern is that it may become a much larger

Recommend Me a Dustbuster

I bought a Black and Decker dustbuster 2 years ago, and it was great for the first year. After that, it will only run for about 45 seconds and then dies. I've just kind of dealt with that, only using it for occasional small cleanups rather than actual use. The batteries are impossible to replace without also destroying the battery holder and circuitry (I tried).

Basically looking for a recommendation for a good dustbuster that sucks in the good way and, ideally, has batteries that can be replaced when they go bad.
