A while back I forgot my charger on holiday and I used my Deck at night to charge my phone. The issue was that my Deck completely got its battery drained which led to the so called "black screen of death", where the deck would turn on (you can hear the power chime, fans start spinning, and the trackpads vibrate on input but the screen stays black - I am on the LCD version, not even the blacklight would turn on).
Unfortunately draining the battery is not very common as the Deck will turn itself off before getting to this point, and because

How to use adhoc wifi for playing LAN games between two decks without a network
First of all, this isn't my guide, so I may not be able to help if you have issues. The source for the guide was a reddit comment here.
Here's the guide:
Its been a while since I first went through getting LAN to work on the steam deck and i think i left a comment somewhere but if you want a more in depth tutorial let me know. Its a decent amount of work to get it running but afterwards you can start a local network / play with a friend in a game that supports LAN. It works in gaming mode too! Its as if it were stock. Heres a quick rundown
- In desktop mode make sure to Install arch linux distro box with root access
- Install yay and its dependencies to the distrobox as well as the git command

I'm using Flatpak Firefox (version 131.0.3) and it keep freezing especially on sites like YouTube. How do I transfer my bookmarks and passwords to an earlier version of FF without using Sync?
I'm going to use this guide to downgrade Firefox to something around version 127 or below because I did not have this issue with earlier versions of FF.
Btw where does Firefox store crash logs? I typed "about:crashes" in the URL bar but it says that "No crash reports have been submitted". I have also used journalctl to find these errors but I'm not sure how relevant they are:
org.mozilla.firefox.desktop[15004]: Exiting due to channel error.
org.mozilla.firefox.desktop[49355]: [Parent 2, Main Thread] WARNING: g_strv_length: assertion 'str_array != NULL' failed: 'glib warning', file /builds/worker/checkouts/gecko/toolkit/xre/nsSigHandlers.cpp:187

Installing Steam on postmarketOS using FEX Emulator and Distrobox
I managed to get Steam installed on my OnePlus 6T and Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro, both running postmarketOS, using Distrobox to create an Ubuntu 24.04 container and then installing FEX-Emu inside of it. I wrote up a guide on the postmarketOS wiki on how to do it, some issues I ran into, some tips on how to get around those issues, and a list of games I've tested. Feel free to expand upon this list if you try it out. Older games such as Half Life 2 are quite playable, especially if your device supports keyboard and mouse input. I have not yet tested using a controller.
How to import your demo save data into Metaphor: ReFantizio
Just ran into this problem, and thought I would share the solution for others.
Metaphor: ReFantizio is the new Atlus RPG, and it has a pretty lengthy demo where your progress carries over to the main game. However, this doesn't work on steam deck because each windows game has it's own pretend file system for files, and the full game can't find where the demo saves are. This is an issue with other games that have demos as well, but the file paths will be different depending on the game ID and the save location.
To fix it do this:
- Go to desktop mode
- In the file explorer, enable show hidden files (three bar menu in upper right)
- In the file explorer, navigate to
/home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/3130330/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/' and copy the folder named
SEGA` - Now go to
/home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/2679460/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/
and paste thatSEGA
folder. - Now relaunch the full Metaphor: ReFantizio

Tutorial:
1: Download the Project Reboot launcher from GitHub
2: Run the installer under wine
3: Once its done, depending on your wine version you will get a black screen, to fix this we need to use the latest Proton, or the latest Proton GE, or use wine 9.11
4: The backend is a bit glitchy, only local works and you have to reset it every time you launch it, so go over to the backend tab, press "Reset", then press "Start Backend", you will see it error out, then you need to switch the type to local, and the backend should work.
5: Download the Fortnite season of your choice at an archive, the built in download thing to download Fortnit
🔏 Digitally sign and send encrypted emails with S/MIME
Heya, I found how you can digitally sign and encrypt emails! (It even gives them a cool icon for others to see!), and I haven't seen anything about it before so I thought I'd share how I did it!
Do you also want to send encrypted emails and sign them? Just follow these few steps!
But beforehand, let's define some terms :
- Signed email : Email with a valid numerical signature. Anyone can read it and know it has not been modified since it was sent.
- Encrypted email : Email encrypted with the recipient's public key. They can decrypt it with their private key
- S/MIME certificate : A
.p12
file containing your private key (So keep it for yourself and don't send it to anyone!!) and your public key.
Okay, now it's time to...
Start the setup (Obtain an S/MIME certificate)
- You'll need to ask to an authority for a certificate. Personally I use Actalis because they
Advanced flying techniques in Sky (Lemmy edition)! by Painfinity
(Hitstun here, testing in production! I'm trying to crosspost a complex Lemmy post. This earns #levitation tag, but some Lemmy front-ends convert the [GUIDE] in the title into a type of post flair it can filter by. @Painfinity 's original text follows...)
Hi fellow Lemmineers....Lemmings....Lemurs!
If you too are in awe of Sky's awesome flight mechanics and want to go deeper, or if you just want to collect candles faster, here are a few more flying techniques that should help you fulfill both of those needs and master the skies! This guide is tailored towards mobile controls, but these should all be doable on a controller and m&k as well.

So l've been trying to play KOTOR 1 on the Deck recently but the PC version requires a lot of work to get it to play in widescreen and even once you have that working the controls are pretty awful. The PC version simply isn't designed with a controller in mind.
After that, I tried emulating the Xbox version, but that requires hex editing to get working properly as well, and runs quite poorly, lagging once you get to Taris and also doesn't look great.
My solution is to go a different way - Android emulation, using Waydroid.
This version of the game has numerous benefits - native widescreen support, controller support, high resolution, and is designed to work

(TIP) Linux comes with lvmcache, which allows you to easily setup SSD caching.
I'm not sure how widely known this is, I'm hoping at the least some other beginners will benefit :)
SSD caching is when an SSD stores the most frequently used contents of a slow (but usually larger) hard disk. When attempting to access something from your hard disk, it will be fetched from your SSD if available, otherwise getting it from your HDD. All the while you will be shielded from this complexity and pretend to work off of the HDD (transparent caching).
Linux comes with lvmcache, which lets you do this with surprisngly few incantations in your terminal.
I had fun installing a distro making use of this (as expected performance has benefited quite a bit). If you are, too:
- Guides on lvmcache assume you already know the basics of Linux's logical volume manager (lvm). There don't seem to be any that bring it all together.
- On setting lvmcache up, the lvmcache manpage was nice and clear. RedHat's [guide](https://docs.redhat.com/en/doc
