Ecocide? Nobody uses that word. Jesus christ does everything have to evoke the fucking Holocaust when Westerners are describing the things the big bad evil countries doing
Genocide doesn’t mean anything anymore. This morning my toe was genocided by a corner
Libs can't discuss violence committed by non-western entities without labelling it a genocide, massacre, or any other -cide because then you can have a discussion about the scale, causality, and nature of the violence.
These are words that rightfully illicit a reaction of visceral disgust.
This has a number of effects:
The words are thought terminators and have been fully weaponized to eliminate all understanding of conflict.
Anyone who is interested in any discussion beyond immediate disavowal and disgust can now be safely dismissed, lest you get labelled a "genocide denier". The discussion of Lemmygrad on other Lemmy instances is a perfect example of how they wield this to misrepresent their views.
Labelling shit like the Xinjiang allegations and Ukrainian famine as genocide is absolutely a form of holocaust denial. It cheapens very real genocides and massacres in the process by equating mass surveillance and policies that inspired farm owners to destroy crops & livestock with systematic attempts to wipe racial groups and queer people from the face of the Earth. Outside of blood & soil fascists, no one has done more to destigmatize genocide than the people slapping that label on any violence done by enemies of the west.
I mean if you're going to be a "militant environmentalist" or whatever then blowing up dams is generally a good thing
If so then being a "militant environmentalist” is a bad thing
I mean yeah I heavily value environmental causes, but I wouldn't consider myself a militant environmentalist or anything. I don't feel like she has an angle here besides "Russia bad" (which is fine imo, but an incredibly tepid take in the context of the Ukraine conflict ofc)
