President Emmanuel Macron is imposing a state of emergency in the French archipelago of New Caledonia after pro-independence protests left at least three dead and disrupted nickel production.

Sounds like from the article they actually are protesting to give less people the right to vote. That sounds worse.
Yeah, France is trying to expand voting rights to recent settlers because the indigenous community is getting closer and closer to passing a vote for independence. It's a desperate attempt to stop it. Fuck France
