Thats true, yeah. Got that kind of stuff a lot before I got lucky and found my love. I guess I learned to accept that some people are just not worth your sadness, even if you feel a ton of it in the moment

I think this would have worked better if it showed the emoji (still sideways, mind you) in an image bubble to suggest it was a photo. That would add the necessary layer of ambiguity to make this a funny question of whether she rejected because that's what he looks like or because of his manual emoji use

Not their fault, it's Lemmys pretty agressive code injection protection.
There were multiple attempts to let users put less than signs, but unfortunately each was found to be exploitable, so for now you just straight up cannot put a less than sign. There are also certain other things you can't type, even inside code rendering blocks. For example, you can't do C++ style include-statements. That's what I was trying to do when I learned all this.
