Oddball cargo e-trike gets its powered wheels in line
German mobility startup Dolas eBike has unveiled a modern utility take on a tandem bike with the launch of the Defender 250. The odd-looking ride features three motored wheels, 4-inch fat tires, a 180-kg battery and a load capacity of 250 kg.
A 3x3 e-trike was not on my 2023 bingo card. Nor was the phrase "wheel amidships", referring to the middle of the three inline wheels. There's also the question of whether three inline wheels could constitute a trike or remain a bike.
For inline wheeled machines, I propose that we adopt the Whyte notation from railroading to better describe the situation haha

It's not ridiculous, but still a bit pricey
That's right in line with the prices for bakfietsen (which are themselves crazy).
5k€ for an electric cargo bike is in line with other options on the market.
Half of that is probably the 2.5kwhr battery, seems like 1kwhr would be a more reasonable range, 180km seems more than needed for most people.
