Formerly a Space Station 13 server - Rounds every 3:00 PM CST on Saturdays, 8:30 PM CST on Sundays
Edit edit: I had the mods unpin the post cuz we don't run the server anymore rn :(
Will make a new post if we reboot it
Edit: the server is live at byond://157.230.217.31:9999 !
Brief instructions:
Get the BYOND client, make an account, and log in.
Click "Space Station 13" in the game list.
Click this gear icon in the top right of the window:
Click open location and paste in the link at the top of the post starting with "byond://" and press OK. Then you should connect!
Me and @WithoutFurtherRelay@hexbear.net have been talking about running a Hexbear SS13 server for a bit and we just now got it in a working state for testing.
Around 4 PM US EST / 7 PM UTC I'll edit this post with the IP address so anyone who wants to play can join. It's okay if you haven't played before.
All you need to play is the BYOND client from here:
Yeah, Amogus is essentially an ultra-simplified version of Space Station 13, and Barotrauma could be argued to be the same. Tasks in Among Us are really simple, but jobs in Space Station 13 tend to be complex, open-ended, roleplay heavy, or all of the above. You can spend hundreds of hours in SS13 mastering a single job, and that mechanical depth combined with the sheer chaos that can break out at any moment is why people play SS13
Yeahh, true. BYOND/SS13 wasn't very portable to begin with but the /tg/station code has been been making it worse. Their UI framework for SS13, TGUI, has been getting more and more complicated and is basically a dynamic webpage rendered with whatever ancient win32 API thing BYOND uses to render webpages. The only reason it works on Windows is cuz Microsoft has gone to the trouble of adapting Edge/latest IE to work as the rendering engine for that. Wine has the Gecko rendering engine for that but it just seems like it can't cope with whatever heavy JS stuff is going on. I'll have to test again sometime and see if there's a way I can get it working. It's been like 1.5 years since I've tried but I think it's only getting worse.
If this project goes anywhere I will definitely be trying to make SS13 more portable again so the non-windows users can join.
In the meantime though if any non-windows users want to play: this game has very simple graphics so it would probably run very well in a VM!
Hii, server is down cuz we couldn't really get enough people together consistently for rounds
I have the resources to put it back up now though and solve the lag issues we were having
Maybe we should reboot it sometime
I'm surprised the proxying server we were using is still up tbh, unlimited thanks on (formerly known as WithoutFurtherRelay) for still paying the bills presumably
