Google wallet won't work with a custom rom with a way more recent security update. However, it will work on stock OS that hasn't been updated for 3 years.
For that reason, fuck Google wallet, and Google pay.
I'm currently using a custom ROM with root and use Google pay pretty often you just need to get the right ROM
Just use cash, or plastic. At least that way you won't lose your money with your phone.
Technically, mobile payment is more secure than cash and cards in terms of theft risk as you need to authenticate before using it.
The only exception is a chip & pin card with NFC and magstripe disabled and no card number or CVV printed on it.
You can't do much with modern phones once reported stolen, most of them become bricks.
This keeps catching me out and it's so annoying. Even more so when the cashier has to do something manual on the terminal to attempt the payment again.
What happened to just needing to unlock the device?
I started using Wallet recently because I got a phone I couldn't flash to a custom ROM (Moto Razr+). I gave up, I'm fucking around with it every time to verify to open it, verify every time I use a card. No point to giving up the potential of the phone getting stolen and hacked if I have to fuck around like that every time.
