Trump’s Pick For Ambassador To South Africa Actively Opposed Fight To End Apartheid

Summary

Trump nominated conservative activist L. Brent Bozell III as ambassador to South Africa, sparking controversy due to Bozell’s past opposition to the anti-apartheid African National Congress (ANC).

In 1987, Bozell’s group joined a coalition against ANC “terrorism,” opposing militant resistance to apartheid and discouraging diplomatic meetings with ANC leader Oliver Tambo.

Bozell also criticized Nelson Mandela, calling coverage of his legacy overly positive.

The nomination comes amid strained US-South Africa relations, with Trump recently halting aid over alleged mistreatment of the white minority.

  • Of course he does. The president literally benefitted directly from Apartheid and feels personally attacked by the reforms around it.

  • The other day I saw an interview with a sociopath (with a PhD in psychology) who said that doing things she explicitly wasn't supposed to do brought her relief from her inner tension. Most of Trump's political appointments remind me of this. It's like he's doing this shit for the sole reason that everybody keeps telling him not to.

  • Of course he did. If you're a morally bankrupt piece of human trash, you have a place in Trump's administration
