NYC congestion pricing tolls staying on after Trump administration moves to end the program
NYC congestion pricing scanners are staying on, despite President Trump's attempt to end New York's toll for drivers in Manhattan.
I'm still not sure how the Federal government tried to claim they even had any sort of standing to make NYC do anything about their roads. They're not federal highways, not an interstate, completely within the City jurisdiction.
It's not about legal precedence. Lots of politicians just cower and do whatever their daddy tells them.
I haven't researched this recently but roads are partially funded federally. I know there are federal regulations that states need to follow in order to receive some federal funding for roads. I'm guessing this has something to do with using that as leverage

Meanwhile in Florida, they're starting surprise congestion pricing based on demand in the moment on I-4. Someone something, market forces, supply side Jesus, long live the king?

To be fair, since our taxes pay for roads already I don’t really think toll roads should be a thing.
Also, anything with an extra fee is just ‘are you rich enough’ tax and that bothers me. Punishing people for being poor isn’t a good idea.
Poor people in NYC don’t typically have cars or live in that part of Manhattan and there’s tons of public transportation options in that area. So, this is more like a tax on upper class people who refuse to ride the subway to pay for necessary upgrades to the subway and bus system. There’s even NJ Transit and the Long Island Railroad for the suburbs. (Not many NYC residents care what Staten Island thinks.)
Trump probably just hates it because it’s a progressive tax. But he left NYC and lives in Florida or his golf courses (and, occasionally, DC) so he doesn’t really get a say.
