Russia and the US agree to work towards improving ties and ending the Ukraine war in landmark talks

"We not only listened, but also heard each other," Lavrov. "And I have reason to believe that the American side has started to better understand our position, which we have once again outlined in detail, using specific examples, based on President Putin's repeated speeches."

The meeting marked the most extensive contact between the two countries since Moscow's Feb. 24, 2022, invasion. Lavrov and then-U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken talked briefly on the sidelines of a G-20 meeting in India nearly two years ago, but tensions remained high.

  • Why was Ukraine not involved? These talks have absolutely no legitimacy.

    • It's pretty simple:

      • USA and Russia have public talks and say they have a "good solution".
      • Ukraine says ,"We are not interested in a solution negotiated by a third party and the aggressor in this conflict"
      • USA says "oh look Ukraine isn't coming to the party here these negotiations were in good faith we can't believe how they're acting we are withdrawing support."
      • Ukraine gets stomped on, USA and Russia divvy up the spoils of war.
      • Yep, that's exactly how I see it playing out too.

Hopefully the rest of Europe rallies round. The USA can't be seen as an ally anymore.
