Kind of jarring flipping between all the moving stuff and work and now uni but I'll adjust. Leaning a bit heavily on feel good food for now and treating myself to a muffin and coffee etc. Not going to save much money to the end of the year but it's better that I have some breathing space...
I also wanted to say, thank you to everyone here for all the supportive messages during this move. I know the posts might’ve gotten a bit tedious and self involved but it meant a lot to be able to vent and move on. I definitely feel more emotionally and mentally equipped
It's very helpful to vent!
Glad that you're finally in, you've definitely earned some rest and comfort food!!!
Here's hoping it's all onwards and upwards from here :)
Did have a bit of lie in this morning and just had 30 minutes on the lawn at uni staring at the grass and soaking up the sun with my coffee. Back at the desk now for a meeting in halfa. I do actually feel positive that things are gonna get better from here because although things are awkward and uncomfortable right now, it's been helpful to let go of a lot of physical and emotional baggage...
I forget about the mountain of work waiting for me after time off :(
Very short week though which is nice :)
It’s apparently going to be a heatwave for the next three days so I might post some cool drink recipes in Food Australia
I is here for this.
Ditto!
Unfortunately I killed all of my fresh mint :( imo mint is the summer/warm weather flavour? spice? Not sure)... Drink additive, I suppose
Although I'm super fond of ginger beer/ale on a hot day too
I saw that. I don't think we'll be going to the school fete Friday afternoon
There are days, as a tertiary-qualified 26-year-veteran of the IT industry, where I absolutely despise not just computers but anything that runs on electricity.
Today is one of those days.
If anyone needs me, I'll be in my shack in the woods far away from any and all technology, screaming.
I understand to a degree
I see this as similar to the cybersecurity workers not using tech (like, Alexa/Siri, cameras with net access, social media, etc), they know how easy it is for it all to go bad lol
Oh I'm definitely in that camp, very late adopter to some stuff once it's had time to mature, and my IoT crap at home is all isolated from the parts of the network that I care about.
I don't even use wireless headphones because I much prefer a cable, it just works every single time without any charging/pairing/dropout/quality hassle.
I'm old :\
my stuff is as low tech as i can get it and of that stuff nearly every function is disabled, NO banking apps on my phone
now to work on that fuckin apple tv shit , i hate it
also, i try to not bluetooth anything important
Turning out pretty well so far
a cushion? That looks really beautiful. 🙂
Thanks! Yes, there will be a pair. Friend gifted me some beautiful offcuts. Squeezing all I can out of them.
That looks absolutely stunning! I love the colours in particular, that off white goes so beautifully with the warm blues and greens and purple
Thanks! The dress my friend made is gorgeous.
Been doing the same for the most part though I did want to catch up on the story about the teens who methanol spiked drink’s unfortunately and sadly there hasn’t been good news about it.
Had it mostly off since the US election concluded.
Same. My twitter threads and my friends feed me enough to keep me updated anyway.
I'm staying off the big media and just trying to look at facts
it's a bit easier that way
Coworker just reminded me that I'm off tomorrow (fortnightly day off).
I smashed through my work in anticipation of an easy day tomorrow. Easy day just became a day of leisure.
Yay me!!
There were cats being territorial in my yard last night so I sent security out there twice to break up the biffin' or the rootin' whatever. He tears out the house rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Well... I said I'd just do a couple of boxes but 4 hours of hyper focus later I've done about six boxes and five bags and cleared out much more space in the living room. Can actually watch TV now!
If I do up the bookshelf on the weekend I could be done with the entire living room area! Need to also do up the bedframe asap, bloody thing is so heavy and cumbersome. I'm definitely getting rid of it (donating/tip) once I move out of here
Good work.👍
Hiya
Haiiiiiiii!!!
Hej
Thought I'd leave my West-facing bedroom window cracked open so it wouldn't be full of stale hot air during the day - bad idea. Will be kept open overnight then closed firmly shut with blinds all the way down tomorrow morning.
Super grateful for the food I bought, wished I'd grabbed a bit more. It's like a gift from heaven, being fed by someone else's efforts 🥰
First order of the evening: bossa nova music on, and time to unpack the important kitchen boxes so I have my surfaces available again. Then sit down and enjoy dinner with the week's episode of Shrinked on the lappy. Feeling good because despite feeling brain dead for most of the day at uni, I managed to get my brain to do something useful at the end.
What bossa nova do you like? 🙂
Argh! I'm not awake is not an excuse for peeing on the floor, yet again. Bloody sit down.
You're joking right 😭😂
Like, even when my partner was drunk, he'd wipe it up after 😬
Boyo needs some discipline lol
I'm afraid not. That isn't a Formal option anymore. I suppose I could ask he remove the metalwork.
Oh man, even my 5yo son can get this right, even when half asleep. I hope you're not the one cleaning it up!!!
Depends when I find it. I'm not leaving it sit if he's already left the building.
Sitting down to pee is totally a thing.
Or go outside
Interview went OK I think. It's been ages since I've interviewed. We'll see how it plays out 🤞🏾
The shoebox is surprisingly still popular lol
🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
I hope everything will be ok.
Honestly I don't mind my current role. I just wanted to dip my toe and see whats out there tbh
Meeting with executive leadership later this morning to talk about why a client has sought a 3rd party project provider.
Hoo fucking Ray lol
"well, you see, sir, our client is a dumb mofo"
I hope it goes okay!!
Lol!
Basically, yes. Absolutely clueless and yet incredibly demanding.
Should be interesting. Hopefully they don't scapegoat me 🤞🏾
Meh, morning. I have been royally itchy AF these past couple of days. Now my right eye feels a bit swollen/tender.
Allergies. The gift that keeps on giving. 😑
Rant: TVs without buttons are stupid. If you mislay or break the remote it has zero functionality. Grrr.
I went to drop a box of stuff off to the new place today, and checked the letterbox. Fuck me it must've been empty for a while, there were easily about 75 letters/junkmail/magnet things crammed in there. I grabbed them out and had a quick flick through them, and it seems that was a bad idea. There were two dead snails living on the mail, having eaten through half of it, and tiny jumping things. Fucking hope they aren't bed bugs or lice or something. Never doing that again. Next time it's all going directly into the bin
I did go and have the most delicious Szechuan chicken curry I think I've ever had though. Too spicy for me, so I got a container to bring it back in. Quite reasonable prices though, I can see myself being lazy and getting curry for tea every night. Only a 10 min walk from the new place
Probably springtails, they’re attracted to damp so probably living in the paper. They’re harmless. Bedbugs wouldn’t live there. They like warm claustrophobic environments and want to be near people.
Smart to be cautious though
Oh, neat, didn't know they were a thing. Hopefully that's all it was
I still chucked my clothes through the wash/drier and washed my hair anyways. I think I'm fine, just gave me a fright!
Plants have been acquired for next week's gardening bee. Now I need to do a rough plan of what goes where. I also got some mulch, but still need to get some fertiliser once I work out what type I want.
They are all native plants that are supposed to be ok with dry and full sun and I managed to keep them in the $10-$13 range , plus a few tubestock for $3.75.
Edit: They are all native plants except for a couple which were in the native plant section but Google tells me are actually from the Mediterranean.
Ooh nice!
Ahhh, the kind of retail therapy I love! I can't wait to get back into this some day, love the feeling of returning home with a large tray full of lovely plants to play with
God, that sovereign midwives article in the ABC really did a number on me. I usually don't get bothered reading any things but I had to stop. I think it's because one of my boys was chilling in breach position for most of the pregnancy
Both that and the Isla Bell article in the Age were really not good to read this morning
Well in not looking it up then. I needed a lie down after that read but I'm in the office today
No probs! The stars finally aligned for me to chip in
a toast to melba 😘
ooh, melba toast, I haven't had that in ages!
Hehe, I've actually only just got off Tropico lol. Got super engrossed
One of my least favourite things that Americans do is ask why characters are speaking with a British accent, in a game made by a non-American developer based in a country that does not have English as the first language.
They did it with Wukong and now they're doing it with STALKER. Why do we let the yanks run the world, again?
Not that I like to generalise but a lot of them don't comprehend that the rest of the world outside of the US exist.
Time zones and release dates tend to confuse them as well.
Add them to the list of reminders we're on America's Internet™.
Decided to take tomorrow off since I have 190 sick days and in combination of feeling crappy I’m not going to put up with people’s horrible attitude and shit.
I also went by Aldi, got some frankfurts, chips and a couple of bottles of wine and a meat lovers pizza to help me get through the weekend.
Bring on the early weekend fuckers!
I'm considering the logistics of a city bike more again. I was thinking of buying a cheap old bike off marketplace to ride between the station and work, but I couldn't figure out where to keep it locked up most of the week. I might be able to do it now if I can figure out that city spot now
A word from an experienced bike commuter. Get your city end parking sorted first if taking the bike all the way. Most stations have bike cages now - these are easy and cheap and most have cctv and are somewhat protected from the weather, but not from fellow bike cage users. Battery theft (for ebikes) is becoming a real problem from bike cages so plan on removing the battery and taking it with you should you use this facility. Some bike cages have basic bike repair tools available nearby (inner city).
Coffee coffee coffee
I for one agree with you.
Infact I'm going to get another one soon
after much sleep my arm is now useable and I can stay awake. These vaccinations knock me out which makes me wonder how I would I cope with getting actual covid.
tho I think I may have had covid in the past six months, my memory is shot lately and that's a symptom of post viral covid.
Day off, feeling shitty but also bored AF. Brains not working well enough to play games. Got some other suggestions to keep me occupied?
Mystery Science Theatre stream on YouTube. It's great background noise or a low effort watch
-yawn-
i should probably get up
Edit: I’m up
😹 i regot up at 11, at least now my months of nagging sore throat has gone too
tho i feel guilty taking it easy today. That's the thing when yer a "housewife", you never get a day off ever , even when crippled with sciatica i still looked after the cats
Coles lemonade isn’t too tasty… it’s a bit sickly and chemical, I’d swear it was artificially flavoured or sweetened if it didn’t say it wasn’t.
Bleh, some people are just so unpleasant to talk to. Rude, arrogant, bossy and at times inadvertently mean.
Normally don't need to talk to them but had to today and it was unpleasant as predicted, thankfully I'm not the only one who has the same opinion but dealing with someone like that really sours the day.
I think it's just nudged me further into actually taking a sick day tomorrow.
Far out..
.... brussel sprout?
On days like this I used to tell my kid it was an "all you can eat zooper doopers" day. 🙂
I popped up to Northland at about 2 because I needed a couple of things. I expected it to be dead as usual on a weekday arvo. It was total bedlam. I guess a combo of the sales and the heat, neither of which had really registered with me.
I survived, but I'll be trying not to enter a shopping centre again between now and at least mid-Jan.
Knock off o'clock
QUITTIN TIME
Wine o clock time! 🍷
Why does everyone here have to dump shit on the US all the time? (and never any other countries)
At least you’re punching up and not down so that’s admirable I guess.
Because the US is literally one of the most powerful nations and militaries on Earth, and they have a rapist, treasonous, failed businessman as a president. During a time when Russia has decided to stretch itself into a facsimile of it's Roman Empire inspiration of conquer and assimilate, Israel and Palestine are going at it really fucking hard, and they all (besides Palestine) have nuclear weapons.
Yeah, I think we're allowed to be vocally critical of them.
Not one of. The US is the richest and most militarily powerful country in history. They have so many natural resources and such good human resources they can afford to make many mistakes and not really lose any ability or potential.
The EU comes in second.
I would think that question is fairly easy to answer
I do it mostly because I'm a petty bastard, and tend to treat people how I feel they treat me. My experience with most people (in an online form) from the US is that they have such a horrendous habit of US defaulting and a ridiculous superiority complex. Also a bit of tall poppy syndrome happening there
They're also basically the very manifestation of capitalism, greed, selfishness, and monopolistic practices, and COVID/gun control issues very much proved that an uncomfortably large portion of their population has zero care or concern for anything resembling the common good, or public benefit. And whilst I realise we have these issues here, too, they're a lot more pronounced in the US (although I will grant that's probably because they also have an exponentially higher population than we do).
And countries are more or less just the sum of their people, particularly in a democracy, no matter how flawed
(FWIW, I hang pretty much an equal amount of shit on Australia, too, when our pollies make decisions I strongly disagree with, or that don't align with my moral compass. I think a part of my dislike probably comes from a fear that if left unchecked, we'll basically end up being mini America, which I think we're already on the path to becoming)
E: and to address the last part of your question, I don't really hang shit on Russia/china because I'm not entirely convinced that they are quite as bad as American media tends to make them out to be. Don't get me wrong, I'm well aware that china is pretty dystopian, makes very liberal use of slave labour, and that Russia uses propaganda bots online, but the US does/has in the past done that as well. And I simply don't know enough about Russia or China to feel like my opinion is really worth having. Likewise for most non western countries. I don't feel comfortable criticising things happening in large swaths of Asia primarily because I don't know enough about local customs, norms, beliefs, etc to feel comfortable holding an opinion. It kind of feels like I'll end up just being another white person telling African countries what they're doing wrong from the comfort of my couch on the other side of the world, or lambasting Cambodia for their poverty problems when I don't know why it's like that and can't propose a solution.
The US is a different story, because they're a western country, similar enough to Australia that I feel I can make assumptions and decisions about, and their politics/happenings are fucking everywhere. Can't use the internet without stupid decisions in America being shoved down my throat..so I've read/seen/heard enough assessments about what's happening, and why, to inform my opinions
Are you originally from the United States?
The press here has been anti usa ever since founding in the early 19th C. It's so we don't get ideas about freedom and revolution and breaking ties with the UK. Also why they banned guns in the 1850s, don't want a repeat of the Eureka Stockade and more, eh.
Interestingly, accepted public opinion is that England is ok and America is awful but in real life Aussies don't like English people and do like Americans. ( generally speaking )
Lunch achieved. Refill water bottle, cue up music and back to work!
'The A Team' theme plays
damnit art books are expensive 😬
It's a huge game in many respects
I'm being very unproductive at work today.
Apart from feeling under the weather got hooked playing the Google moon phase game for awhile.
Oh damn. I forgot to do the self watering water containers for the zucchinis.
Guess I’m poking those holes now. I might use the mini bottles because standard ones would take up too much room in the pots.
Edit: Nah I’ll just pull them in. It’ll give me time to sort all that out
Not Covid or the flu, so that’s good. Still feels a bit like I been run over by a truck but hopefully day 3 it’ll break.

I ate a few rice crackers and my mouth started burning… ? Alrighty then.
I’ve ordered some more seeds. Jack Be Little pumpkins, Tommy Toe cherry tomatoes and some cat grass seeds. Very cheap. I just wish the packets were a little smaller, I only have so many pots left.
The zucchini are growing a lot of adult leaves and already shaping up to be monsters. What have I done planting four of them… I only had 30cm pots as well. I still haven’t got the stakes and the pipes might not be tall enough.
Those little pumpkins look especially adorbs and will be fast too. You have to show us pictures when they are ready. 🎃
I hope they go ok… pumpkins are apparently prone to mildew and attract pests. And I’m worried the pots are too small.
I was going to get Small Sugar pumpkins because they’re sweet and good for pies but checked the size of the fruit and it’s lucky that I did. Those are smaller than standard but 18cm/2kg would be a bit heavy for vertical growing.
I picked the Jack Be Little variety that seemed like they’d grow to the size of my fist and will support them with cut off stockings if I have to.
I considered the tiniest ones, Baby Boo, but they look very ornamental. Their description said they were edible but didn’t say they were good eating.
nyt xword. I've read all those books. ...lol
Good night everyone. Sweet dreams. 😘😘😘
Hot day. Tram has AC . Rough looking guy with backpacks was sleeping in a corner. 😔
Went home sick, suspected gastro, end me please.
🔫💊😭
That is an excellent idea
🍵
Poor you
