They were supposed to be cat eyes, which would have probably looked better.
- how do you even fuck that up? just go buy cat's eye lenses, any costume store has to have boxes piled ontop of each other filled with those

The dialogue was so bad, I don't think anything would have really helped.
This effect is relatively a very simple one to edit in post and would look a lot better than contacts. This looks so cheap
- I just had a mini-revelation that this looks weird because the "pupil" is on the surface of the contact instead of under the lens of the eye. These aren't bad contacts; contacts are just bad like that. Seems that post processing is really the only option.
  
  Yes colored contacts have that effect always, but for a show you'd expect some effort into one of the main characters appearance
OMG there's an actual bird that looks that derpy? Holy shit. It looks like someone tried to bake an owl and it didn't rise.
