It's clearly an escalation. Of course the US feels more comfortable escalating here unfortunately, as they know there's no risk of a nuclear armed power retaliating against them.
Realpolitik: Pays to be an ally before the aid is needed. Israel and the US have long had a strategic partnership. Also helps to be against a country that basically everyone is tired of. Nobody backs Iran, parcularly with their proxies doing their best to fuck up world trade that everyone relys on.
Back to Ukraine: There should be a good bit of momentum behind another joint Ukraine/Israel lethal aid bill when the current one is up for renewal soon.
I think we will see instead that the US will let its support for Ukraine dry up, as it focuses on helping Israel blow up the entire West Asia region.
As it stands Europe will get fucked double as Russia will capture most of Ukraine, displacing another 10-20 Million Ukrainians and the great war in West Asia will bring another 100-200 Million refugees.
The global economy will freefall as the Oil price will skyrocket, but this helps both the US and Russia to keep their war chest filled, as the US has increased its Oil and Gas production capabilities.
The only way it "pays" to be an ally of israel is that you'll be paying israel billions of dollars while spending trillions more fighting wars for them. Fuck israel, it shouldn't exist, just like how nazi germany shouldn't exist.
