What are some good TV series crime/drama/thriller?

Mindhunter, True Detective season one
Matthew Mcconaughey and Woody Harrelson were great in it! The last season with Jodie Foster was good too IMO, but the rest was just blah.
I quite enjoyed season 4 of True Detective as well. If you don't compare it to the lightning in a bottle that was Season 1, anyway
Mr Robot
Narcos
Dahmer
The Last of US
Chernobyl
Snowfall
Peaky Blinders
Ozark
dang , i've seen them all except the last of us
Def watch the first season of Westeorld if you haven’t. The rest I can’t speak on, the first couple eps of s02 made zero sense and I totally lost interest. The first season can stand alone as a self-contained piece, though.
Good taste then 😉
Try Last of Us. It's very atmospheric and well written.
My time to shine has come!
"The killing" with Joel Kinnaman and Meirelle Enos. Two detectives try to solve a murder case.
"The fall" with Jamie Dornan and Gillian Anderson. A father with a dark and unsettling history.
"Mare of Easttown" with Kate Winslet and Evan Peters. Local detective invetigates a complicated case.
"Inside man" with Stanley Tucci. A detective gets help from an unexpected person.
Sorry for the crappy overviews.
Those are some of my favorites and I have watched them more than once.
you've always shined my friend!
Dude, this looks like exactly what I was looking for as I've never watched any of these and that is rare. Thank you even included a high level plot overview as well, lemmy can't be matched!
You are in for a treat!
I am glad I could share something interesting with you.
“The killing”
Consider watching the Danish original instead though :)
Seconded, it's superb.
Oh I will look it up for sure! Thanks for the suggestion.
The Bridge, a scandinavian series
Signal, a korean series
Loved The Bridge 👍
There is also US version that aired on FX. I haven’t seen the original, but I did enjoy this version.
Will have to checkout the Scandinavian version, thanks for the heads up!
man korean series are crazy i love it. i prefer dubbed tho over subtitles
The first four are remakes, but they're done very well.
Tokyo Vice
Shogun (not exactly a crime thriller but it will suck you in)
Ripley (shot like a black and white film from the 40's, good even if you've seen the Matt Damon movie)
Perry Mason
Yellowjackets
Altered Carbon
Big Little Lies
Nine Perfect Strangers
Dark Winds
If you like crime comedy, try White Lotus, Dead to Me, Search Party, Only Murders in the Building, Flight Attendant, and The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window.
your a savior... my girlfriend will like the crime comedy ones so thanks for those!
Sopranos
That Unabomber series was such a touching piece for me. I don't want to spoil anyone's fun, but it made feel vey sentimental how his vulnerable side was presented.
The Wire, The Sopranos
Dark was amazing. True detective s1 o f course.
yes Dark was amazing. I love time travelling shows dark was def the tops of having an realistic edge to it.
Also liked, Dark matter (2024), Travellers, 21 Monkeys are a few travelling series i can recall that are worth a watch
Dark matter looks great - cheers. 12 monkeys I loved, maybe worth a watch again sometime. I've had to resort to comics and books to get my sci fi fix 😅
I kinda liked Your Honor.
I liked it, first season best.
i did too they should make more
The Night Of
Fantastic Limited Series, left me wanting more.
I was pretty happy with the length honestly. In general I think almost all series are too long. A nice ending is an underappreciated thing these days it seems.
Andor
Luther
Oh my absolute favorite detective. I remember waiting a freaking year when they announced "Midnight sun" to come out as the series finale. Great british TV!
Movies based on Stieg Larssons books.
Spot on! Very dark and dramatic, I remember reading the Millenium series when it first came out and then went to the theater to watch The girl with the dragon tattoo, the original european version with Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth Salander. What a great actress!
"The Americans" — spy drama about Soviet deep undercover spies living in suburban Washington and their FBI neighbour
"Homeland" — CIA accuses a returned prisoner of war to be turned islamic terrorist
"Berlin Station" — CIA station in Berlin faces repeating leaks. First season starts off boring but picks up speed fast
Damn...the Americans.... I remember that was on FX I think. That's one I've slept on and need to binge asap! Thanks 🙏🏻
Better call saul
How has no one mentioned The Wire. It might be, without exaggerating, the best show ever made, still.
Way ahead of it's time
If you're never seen Columbo, you're in for a treat.
I'll add a pretty good classic that I haven't seen mentioned yet: The Mentalist
Excelent performance by Simon Baker, of course, as well as from the supporting cast. First seasons are really good, with some great finales. Quality drops a bit past season 4/5 imo, but it's still enjoyable.
Presumed Innocent is finishing out its first season. Really great so far.
Others have recommended several of my suggestions but here are ones that haven't been mentioned (in order of my own preference):
CRIME:
Bosch
Line of Duty
Bloodline
Longmire
The Killing
DRAMA:
Rectify
Dude Rectify started slow but seems like mid season 2 might start to be picking up 👌🏻 thanks again that was one I'd never heard of.
It's definitely a slow character-driven drama. I didn't know that I would've gotten as far as mid season 2 if I hadn't gotten hooked from the start myself. Hope you enjoy the rest of it.
man, bloodline was so good wish they made more of that one! appreciate it!
Bloodline drove home for me the fact that Florida is a very sweaty place.
ALIAS. "She's a grad student! She's a spy! She's a grad student! She's a spy!"
Yes AppleTV is honestly killing the game right now, SILO, Severance, Dark Matter, Foundation and many more coming all wicked scifi stuff too that you can't find anywhere else.
Have you seen Legion (2016) the tv show? It is by far my #1 sci-fi series ever and it was way ahead of it's time, by the same guy who did Fargo by Noah Hawley i believe.
For true crime, there's a documentary on Netflix about Robert Durst called Jinxed that is a wild ride. Tldw: multimillionaire who got away with multiple murders, but there's a major twist at the end.
It's old but Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy is great.
Fortitude Session 1 is great. Season 1 is also self contained and the mystery is solved. Season 2 was a new mystery and kind of meh.
The Hannibal series maintained my interest throughout, largely carried by Mads Mikkelsen
Plus the visuals and ambience creation were superb IMO. Mads Mikkelsen is such a vesratile actor. I especially liked his Hannibal.
OP: I am babbling all over your post because I am so excited to find interesting shows, movies and people in it. Sorry for the rambling.
Look for the original Swedish/Danish version of 'The Bridge.' It's been remade with USA/Mexico and UK/France, but the first is still the best. I usually hate shows with subtitles, but this one kept me going for every season. Body turns up on an international bridge, half on one side and half on the other. Two very different police detectives have to work together to solve the crime.
'Culprits' is from the POV of the crooks. After commiting the perfect crime, a now reformed crook is pulled back in when the wealthy victim comes looking for revenge.
Wire in the blood
Trigger Point
Line of Duty
Mr Inbetween
Criminal Minds
