Do you donate money? How, why, why not?
  • Your right, there's for example Netzpolitik which fights for our internet rights. I've donated to them once. Totally forgot about them, shame on me.

  • Some games, like Allen Wake, have been full out removed from sale because of expired music license. There has been other cases some come back later with the music stripped.

  • Do you donate money? How, why, why not?
  • I don't donate money because over half of my paycheck is already deducted from my pay. Germany does already a lot of welfare in my name and I'm proud of this and okay with this.

Also I'm aware of issues donations can cause, like material ones for instance, that can disrupt the economy of a poor country and prevent them from growing their own, so I don't do that either.

I also believe it's not good to keep another country depending on donations, because in the long run it will create more suffering when the donations can't keep up. It's a bit difficult to explain as a lot of processes interconnect here and it sounds heartless without explaining it in detail. Let's say there are a lot of exceptions to the last part, as for instance a country currently at war should get as much donations a possible. However I personally also draw the line on countries who are at war constantly, as they seam to lack interest in stopping blood for blood conflicts and I'd rather not get involved into this, as it's hard to tell who's the good guys.

I thought about donating to local pet shelters and I might do that in the future, because they have a lot of pets suffering and not receive enough money to properly care for them. On the other hand I eat meat and where's the differences between a dog or a cow? It almost feels hypocrite to eat one and trying to save the other. So probably reducing meat consumption is the best I could do. Much better than donations.

I accepted that I'm a human with needs and wants and therefore also egoism, else I'd donate all my money, as there's always someone who's life is worse than mine. But I don't do that.

  • Next: make it so games can't suddenly lose their music license. This is so incredible annoying. I know it's depending on what the publishers negotiated, but it shouldn't be possible to suddenly patch out soundtracks because of a license expire.

  • Yes, It’s Still Really Worth Avoiding COVID—Even If You’ve Already Had It a Few Times
  • Good thing I didn't say "don't bother at all". I never said don't get vaccination or don't wear a mask if you're in public transport. I even said stay at home when feeling sick to not infect others. I personally don't use public transport much anymore and probably won't carry a mask for the rare occasions, but that's a personal thing. However the automatic bite reflexes, of assuming I propagate a black and white thinking, makes me believe you're American. It's often in online discussions, especially with Americans, that they only see pro or against. It's exhausting.

Also you brushed of the other things I said too. Maybe I should've added a "third" option and it's people who don't bother with covid at all, but I left it out for discussion sake. All I read all day on social media is the still existing constant fear of covid, and yeah, I rightfully so laugh about this. It's like fearing cancer. You take reasonable preparations but you gain nothing by changing your way of living by an invisible virus you could catch any day. How is this so hard to understand?

  • Leak claims RTX 5090 has 600W TGP, RTX 5080 hits 400W — up to 21,760 cores, 32GB VRAM, 512-bit bus
  • For just tinkering around one could use SD1.5 with a 4GB VRAM GPU and stop after a few minutes. I spend quite some time on AI image generation, like on average 4 hours per day since over a year now. New models, especially video AI generation will need more VRAM, but since I don't do this commercially, I can't just pay 30k for a GPU.

  • I know there have been non gaming GPUs with so much VRAM, but that's beside the point.

  • Leak claims RTX 5090 has 600W TGP, RTX 5080 hits 400W — up to 21,760 cores, 32GB VRAM, 512-bit bus
  • RTX3090 with 24gb VRAM was the best you could get as consumer GPU. Not sure which 2017 GPU you mean but it certainly was a completely different price range and not for gaming. It would be the same as comparing it to an A100, makes no sense.

A lot of people can't afford two PCs or a GPU that costs 10 times as much, so obviously the GPU needs to be good for gaming and other stuff. I only voiced my opinion after all. If you don't need more VRAM, that's fine. I however don't have an unlimited wallet and VRAM should be higher for the asking price they have, but again, you can disagree if you think it's fine.

  • Compared to 24gb we had in 2020 that's barely an upgrade. I'm not joking, AI stuff needs more VRAM. 32gb is too little for the price they'll ask for. Right now VRAM is more important than pure power, you can't use larger models when your VRAM bottlenecks.

Edit: oh I get it. I mentioned AI my bad.

  • 32gb VRAM would suck. Then I'll not buy a 5090. A 5080 with only 16GB of GDDR7 would also suck. Better get a 3090 with 24gb then.
