- Why is Simplex calling to Google?
Hi
I may be wrong, but can someone help me interpret the results of this analysis correctly?

An app that is advertised as the most privacy-friendly?
All other indicators can (probably) be considered false positives (for example, the Camera permission, which is needed for video calls)
- bug ? Network Connection, WiFi dot is red
Hi,
SimpleX github conversations closed ??
I wanted to post this as a conversation then convert into an issues on github but it seem the github conversation of this project are closed... (we can't create new one) Do you know why ?
\ I've installed simpleX onfez android phones. it work smoothly. but for one of those phone (Android 14) the messages are only received and send when I restart the apps then no more. in
Your settings\settings\Network & servers\network connection

- How is SimpleX Chat officially pronounced?
Is there an official statement on how SimpleX is pronounced?
Is it "simple ecks"? Is it just the English word, "simplex"? Is it something else?
If there is no official statement, how do the developers say it?
- Migrate acc from android to desktop AppImage takes too long
Downloaded the release 6.0.0-beta1 pre-release version of AppImage to my Qubes-Whonix. Then, created an encrypted archive (18 MB) of my android simplex using simplex app, and got my download link for migration to the desktop app. On the desktop appimage, I pasted this link, and it has been "DOWNLOADING LINK DETAILS" for 15 minutes now. Is this feature working yet, or am I waiting in vain?
- Battery usage too high.
Unfortunately simplex uses way too much battery on my unisoc tablet. It is also still quite high on an older qualcomm phone. Is there room for improvement with updates or is this the limitation of lower end hardware?
- Is the Simplex network connection a single point of failure that could easily be blocked by the government?simplex.chat SimpleX Chat: private and secure messenger without any user IDs (not even random)
SimpleX Chat - a private and encrypted messenger without any user IDs (not even random ones)! Make a private connection via link / QR code to send messages and make calls.
Hello, is the network connection to the SimpleX network made same way as in Session messenger (single point of failure in the form of several seed/bootstrap nodes "hardocded" in the client software, the nodes which hostnames/IPs can be blocked on ISP/government firewalls) ?
If you know any detail on how it works, please link. Thank you
- What will happend to simpleX if the new laws happend to be voted in the EU ? :/
Hi everyone.
I'm curious to understand what could happened to simpleX if the new "security" plan in EU gets voted?
Because I'm not versed enough with the political and legal wording in thoses papers I've got a hard time to actually understand.
- Will simpleX be obligated to comply?
- Will simpleX retire from EU?
- Would It be illegal to use simpleX if the bill passes?
- Could we still use simpleX with a proxy/VPN from a country outside of EU?
- ...
I'm genuinely concerned about what I'm reading here and there on lemmy... I hope someone could give me some interesting point of view.
Thanks.

- Asking for your opinion on decentralized applications' usability
Hi all! I’m working on my cyber security bachelor’s thesis and am reaching out to gather insights from users who use decentralized messaging applications.
I would be incredibly thankful if you could find the 2 to 4 minutes to fill out the form. Your experience in the matter is incredibly valuable.
You’ll find the survey at https://questionnaire.ink/412758
Your responses are confidential and will be used solely for supporting my thesis. No personally identifiable information is collected.
Thanks!
- Why using a censorship platform when fighting for freedom & privacy ?
To the developer working on SimpleX,
Why are you still using Microsoft Github ? (and by extend Reddit ! )

- Could SimpleX be P2P ?
Hi,
I've just tested SimpleX. Great piece of software, all the options are really well thought ...
Sadly it's not P2P (all the messages pass by servers... ) is there a way to make-it P2P ?
Thanks.
- Lack Of F-Droid Releases
Does anyone know why every release is not available through F-Droid? For example F-Droid has version 5.5.2 and the latest stable is 5.5.5. In the buildlog it looks like F-Droid gets the soirce code for every release. It assume it is not successfully compiled in order for it to never end up being released.

- How do relay servers handle abandoned messages?
As far as I understand it, the relay servers only hold the messages until they are delivered, but what happens if they can never get delivered? Does the server just endlessly accumulate these messages in limbo, and never purge them, or are they on a timer? Even if they are on a timer, if a group chat with one abandoned user has a large enough volume of messages, they could theoretically overwhelm the server's storage.

Update
I have received an official response on this from the SimpleX Chat team: > the servers hold the messages for 21 days if they are not received

We will:
- demo the new desktop app.
- show how to set up SimpleX servers with dual address (public+onion).
- share the plan for SimpleX group and communities.
- possibly, show one more thing.
#OpenSource #Security #Privacy
- v5.2 with delivery receipts is fully released – see the post about it and about the future of the groups, and join our event next week!

The app is available in all channels via the links on the website or via [GitHub release] – the main F-Droid repo is coming soon.
If you use Android, make sure to use the build 134 - the previous one had a database performance issue causing very slow message delivery.
Join our event on 7/27 at 17:00 UTC (6pm UK, 10am PT):
- demo of the new desktop app 🚀
- platform evolution:
- what's coming for groups and communities.
- why we don't plan read receipts for now.
- demo how to host a server with dual public+tor address in Ubuntu VM, so that users who prefer to connect to onion addresses can communicate with you via your self-hosted server even if you don't use Tor - it's much simpler than you think.
Mark your calendar, the link to connect is coming soon, it won't require any registration.
You will be able to ask any questions in this SimpleX group: #SimpleX-Event-2023-07-27
- any ideas on how to securely send my SimpleX address to a recipient?
like, if I send the QR code to someone I want to talk to via email, anyone intercepting this message will at the very least know my SimpleX address; same thing if I send it via messenger.
edit: let's assume we don't have an established and trusted channel. furthermore, they're not expecting this info.
- SimpleX is amazing
I just wanted to say, as someone who has been reluctant to try and convert his friends and family to alternative communications platforms for years due to perceived shortcomings with all alternatives, I think SimpleX might just be good enough.
Thank you very much for the work on this amazing solution.
- create a discussion between my Simplex application on my Android, and the Simplex CLI application on my Linux.
Hello
I'm trying to create a discussion between my Simplex application on my Android, and the Simplex CLI application on my Linux.
But either I don't understand how it works, or something isn't working.
On the cli version
version, I understand that you have to do
/c to create an address
it replies
/c
> BROKER {brokerAddress = "smp://xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx=@smp4.simplex.im,xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxx.onion", brokerErr = NETWORK}
is this all you have to paste on the Android side to be able to chat?
- SimpleX Chat: v5.2-beta.2 with delivery receipts, favorite chats, and more is available! Also - join our event on July 27!
You can get the new version from GitHub, TestFlight, Play Store beta and our F-Droid repo!
Full release and the release announcement are coming on Saturday July 22nd.
We will host an online event on July 27 at 17:00 UTC (6pm UK, 10am PT) to talk about:
- what's new in v5.2, why we won't have read receipts and what is coming soon
- how we will solve the problems of groups and communities that are emerging on SimpleX platform
- we will demo how to host a server with dual address (both clearnet and onion) in linux VM, so that users who prefer to only connect to onion addresses can communicate with you via your self-hosted server even if you don't use Tor - it's much simpler than you think.
- we will answer all your questions too.
Online platform to connect to TBC, we'll make sure that it doesn't require any registration.

- Planned downtime for smp10.simplex.im – 2-4 hours starting from 4pm UTC on July 9 (Sunday)
This relay will be migrated to the datacenter in the UK to reduce the latency for most users. The migration itself takes less than 30 minutes, the DNS changes propagate in 1-3 hours (based on tests we ran). The relay will remain available on the same hostnames but with a different IP address.
The migration will start from 4pm UTC.
If you use Tor, it will be available as soon migration is complete, within 30 minutes - we did such migrations before without announcing them.
If you use public Internet to connect SimpleX relays, it will become available as soon as DNS updates.
If you have some important contacts where you use smp10 relay to receive messages you can switch them in advance (it won't be possible to switch during migration).
