  • Fed up with Reddit's owners, so I stopped my daily use. I did like Reddit more because of some well moderated and active subreddits, and I do occasionally pop my head in over there once a week or so to stay informed, but I spend almost all of my time here and on mastodon now.

I had a similar relationship with Facebook around 2015. Stopped pretty much entirely except for when I need to engage with Facebook marketplace, and I generally try to use Craigslist first.

  • Yeah please just rotate the secret if that happens. Doesn't matter what platform it is, this is true of GitHub as well. Secrets that are accidentally published are no longer secret.

  • The traditional "leverage" is just the standard CEO - stockholder relationship. The CEO manages the company well and the stockholders reward the CEO with payment and/or by making the stock price go up by buying more and/or not selling. IMO that basic relationship broke down a while ago, but the stock market has been unhinged for so long that it seemed to not matter.

  • Hilariously I think you actually both did it wrong but it's still a shitload of money that any reasonable individual could comfortably retire with. Billionaires have so much money that misplacing a few decimal places here and there hardly even matters.

    400,000,000,000 x .0001 = 40,000,000

If someone dropped 40 million on me tomorrow I'd be happy to fuck off back to whatever rock I crawled out from under

  • This is how I feel about every single Brian Taylor Cohen video on YouTube right now. Every video is about how the tide is turning but I haven't seen anything to suggest things are going to get better any time soon because ultimately the net scale and impact of their actions are still skewed.

  • I think it's far more good than bad. He helped create a monster that he could never control. His monster was always going to be a monster with or without him. So at least with him going there's a chance there will be one less skillful madman near the levers of power.

  • You can put a bunch of it in the microwave with a bowl of water to make a humid environment that might help it to form into a huge chunk. Then you can put it in a sock to persuade your local billionaire to stop fucking up society and the planet. I may have left out a few steps, what were we talking about again?
