  • I don't keep track actively. I noticed problems when reading a file and looked at the drive with smartctl for that reason. Does anybody know how to keep track actively?

  • What are good harddrives to use with servers
  • I was thinking actual hard drives, not SSDs...

  • What are good harddrives to use with servers

I have quite an extensive collection of media that my server makes available through different means (Jellyfin, NFS, mostly). One of my harddrives has some concerning smart values so I want to replace it. What are good harddrives to buy today? Are there any important tech specs to look out for? In the past I didn't give this too much attention and it didn't bite me, yet. But if I'm gonna buy a new drive now, I might as well...

I'm looking for something from 4TB upwards. I think I remember that drives with very high capacity are more likely to fail sooner - is that correct? How about different brands - do any have particularly good or bad reputation?

    Thanks for any hints!

Jellyfin getting invalid metadata for tv shows
  • I fear that will be what I have to do. I'm just so confused why Emby seems to have no problem at allwith it, but Jellyfin does... Not a single show is automatically assigned correctly.

  • Jellyfin getting invalid metadata for tv shows
  • Good to know, but still a lot of source paths would change. that's my worry...

  • Jellyfin getting invalid metadata for tv shows
  • I have multiple folders with movies and multiple folders with tv shows. Each folder is imported as either "movie only" or "tv show only"...

  • Jellyfin getting invalid metadata for tv shows
  • yes I have. still thanks for the question, I tend to forget about obvious stuff like that... :)

  • Jellyfin getting invalid metadata for tv shows
  • As I wrote, I've already tried to change that, but it gives me the same result.

  • Jellyfin getting invalid metadata for tv shows
  • Yes, I suspected that. But I've also tried to change that already, to no avail.... :-(

  • Jellyfin getting invalid metadata for tv shows

    Hi folks,

I'm in the process of setting up Jellyfin. The basic setup is easy enough (I'm using docker compose), but I can't make it recognize tv shows properly. The metadata lookup works for movies, though.

For tv shows, it returns a (seemingly) random tv show and assigns it to all tv shows in my library. So I end up with many instances of the same show in the UI. If I change the metadata source from TheMovieDB to TheTVDB I end up with a different show, but with the same result: Every show in my library is assigned to the same invalid metadata.

I can select shows and manually identify it, but that's really cumbersome for a big libary.

If also tried the same with Emby and I don't get the same error there.

I've also tried to but a tvshow.nfo file into folders to help the lookup, but it doesn't seem to be recognized at all.

I know I can put metadata on the folder name of a series (like the show id of themoviedb), but I really don't want to do this, as I have another mediaserver server (Kodi) the same library to my Smart-TV. It would mess up that libary - also: Emby seems to be able to do the lookup correctly, so why wouldn't Jellyfin?

I know about this page: https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/server/media/shows/

My library is mostly structured this way:

Show_name/ Show_name/S01 Show_name/S01/S01E01.mkv (I don't think the "S01" part is the problem, I tried to rename to "Season 1" without success)

Any ideas what could be the problem here?

How to rip copy-protected DVDs on Linux in 2024
  • That's exactly what I was looking for - I came across MakeMKV before, but couldn't find a recent Linux version - didn't think of Flathub, though. None of the guides that come up if you look for dvd ripping on linux mention it, though... Thanks mate!

  • How to rip copy-protected DVDs on Linux in 2024
  • Strangely, playing was working fine. Just when I try to convert it has sync issues... I'm probably just too simpleminded to make it work that way, but VLC doesn't make it easy to do it right either, I guess...

  • How to rip copy-protected DVDs on Linux in 2024

I feel this is kind of a dumb question but I can't find a solution that's working for me:

every now and then I have the need to rip copy protected dvds. In the past I have used Handbrake with libdvdcss. But now there only seems to be flatpak versions of Handbrake for linux and these versions can't access the libdvdcss library.

VLC should be able to do the job but for a specific dvd I wnt to rip now, I produces out-of-sync video/audio tracks and I haven't been able to succeed.

I can't believe ripping dvd's can be that hard. Do I miss something obvious? Any tips are appreciated, aside from just download it - I can't find the respective media anywhere...

  • Reset cover cache

Hi folks. Some rightwing shithead uploaded an incorrect cover to LastFM for a song in my library. The cover is gone on LastFM now, but my Navidrome still displays the invalid one. There's probably caching in place in Navidrom - but how can I reset this cache? I know I can delete the cache directory, but is there a more targeted way to do this?

This repository contains code to scan for new releases of configurable github repositories and publish new releases to different Mastodon accounts.

    github-releases-bot

I'm selfhosting several services, mostly based on docker containers. Many of these are managed on Github and publish releases there. What annoys me is that I regularly miss updates.

I'm also quite active on Mastodon so I thought it would be handy to have a bot automatically scanning for new github releases and posting a new toot for every new release.

The bot can be configured to scan multiple different github repositories and publish to different mastodon accounts.

I have set up accounts for:

    https://mastodon.social/@navidrome_releases https://mastodon.social/@vaultwarden_releases https://mastodon.social/@dockerpihole_releases https://mastodon.social/@tempo_releases https://mastodon.social/@unifidocker_releases

You can use the notification feature of Mastodon to get a notification, whenever a new post is published. Just follow an account and hit the little bell icon on its profile page.

Here's the code, if someone is interested in that:

    https://codeberg.org/ryan_harg/github-releases-bot

Is this something that you people find useful? Which other services would you like to see covered in that way?

Since I regularly miss new Navidrome releases I have created a bot that automatically checks Navidrome's github page for new releases and publishes to a Mastodon account if a new release is available.

You can follow the account here: https://mastodon.social/@navidrome_releases

Pro tip: If you click the little bell icon on its profile page, you'll get a notification for every post.

    Release v0.51.0 · navidrome/navidrome

    Available since almost two weeks:

    "New in this release.

⚠️ BREAKING CHANGE: This release removes the Last.fm shared API-key, as previously announced here. If you use any Last.fm functionality (scrobbling, biographies, album descriptions), please check the documentation on how to create your own API Key, it is free and should only take you a couple of minutes. NOTE: Remember to re-enable scrobbling after changing the API Key and restarting the server.

In this release we focused on support and compatibility with OpenSubsonic, increasing the overall user experience when using a compatible Subsonic client. Click here for the full list of what is implemented and what is missing for now.

NOTE: Even though this release does not force a full rescan, you should do it at your discretion, to import more tags available in the scanner, ex: structured lyrics."

    Release v0.50.1 · navidrome/navidrome

I just realised that almost three weeks ago, a new minor navidrome version (0.50.1) has been released. Just wanted to mention it in case some of you haven't taken note as well. This release contains mostly bugfixes.

Most of all I'm happy to see some activity again. Hoping to see more in the near future!

    Tagging your music collection

I'm using MusicBrainz Picard for tagging my music library and I'm not unhappy with it. Yet, sometimes it feels a bit clunky and I'm wondering if there are other good tools out there. What do people use? What are the major pros of these tools? Let's collect some recommendations here. I'm Linux based, but for the benefit of others don't restrict yourself!

A new Version of Tempo was just released

Not strictly Navidrome news, but related. Version 3.5.0 of my favourite mobile subsonic client app was released. It delivers some new features (like filtering downloaded items by track, album or artist), several bugfixes and a full german localization.

You can download it from Github releases or IzzyOnDroid.

Post not showing up in Thunder, only in web ui

    New community for Navidrome

After using Funkwhale for some time, I've recently set up Navidrome as a music streaming server and I'm well impressed about the easy installation and quality of the software. Seeing that the official community channels are all outside the fedicerse I have decided to create a Lemmy community for folks interested in the topic. It is an unofficial community, but it is linked from the main Navidrome website, by now. If that's interesting for you, I'd love to see you there!
