Alan Wake, Control developer agrees €15m convertible loan from Tencent
  • I understand that Epic funded their project to be an Epic exclusive, but was that a financially sound decision excluding the major market place. Could they not have worked in like a two year or three year exclusive period

  • Alan Wake, Control developer agrees €15m convertible loan from Tencent
  • Yeah I feel there is a weird history between steam and remedy media. Like I remember when you could one day buy Alan Wake like really cheap since it was being taken off steam. Then the Epic deal making Alan Wake 2 exclusive basically meant they excluded a lot of customers immediately on steam.

  • In Silicon Valley, a Rogue Plan to Alter the Climate | Some restless entrepreneurs are releasing pollutants in the sky to try to cool the planet.
  • Even if I know it could end badly, I actually still believe this is the best short term plan, we already geoengineered the atmosphere warmer, might as well quickly cool it down back to where it was. But as long as this is seen as a bandaid, not the cure

Lawyers question whether a drugged French woman was truly unconscious during alleged rapes
  • Yeah pretty shitty going after the wife, but they are lawyers and have to best represent their clients, still it is heartbreaking hearing these questions, but if they are not asked the perpetrators could later claim because these questions weren't asked they have ground for appeal or maybe a mistrial. I am not a lawyer nor have any knowledge of the French judicial system. But I am glad she is having this trial in the open, it really lets the public see how such a horrific crime is dealt with in the court, the uncomfortable questions, the belief that if they have her husband's consent it is fine. Fuck and her husband is throwing all of these fucks, including his fucked-up self, with him underneath the bus, like taking them all down with him.

  • How ‘The Babadook’ Became the Most Iconic Horror Movie of the Decade
  • No fucking way this was better than Hereditary. The Babadook is iconic, but if I think right now what I can remember after all these years, little remains. Yet with Hereditary there is so much that stays with me.

  • ‘The Crow’ remake ends its theater run. how much did it make?
  • Fuck I hope Hollywood finally realises that they have really hit the the bottom of the barrel regarding remakes. Also, some sequels or whatever-quels have been hit and miss.

They need to focus on new fresh ideas, something new. Unfortunately they have to do something that is much harder now and that is not playing safe with proven IP. Make new IP, what ever gets the right team to be consistent with new movie ideas, maybe like Studio A24, will be in blue waters not fighting over the nostalgia against each other.

  • South Africa Celebrates 150 Days Without Loadshedding [due to Solar Power]
  • If you want to look at a country that solved their power problem with solar, I heard that is exactly what Vietnam did by incentivising the private generation of power, basically buying extra power from people's solar. But do your own research, not entirely sure of the whole story

  • South Africa Celebrates 150 Days Without Loadshedding [due to Solar Power]
  • Bullshit, South African here. Yes solar has helped, mostly the affluent who can afford to install their own private home/business solar power.

But The huge problem what caused it was the ANC, which in May lost its majority in the elections for the first time since 1994.

The state run power company, Eskom, had been run into the ground by the ANC due to corruption and incompetence. In 1997 a white paper showed there would not be enough power by 2007. The only two power stations they build, the two largest in the world if I am not incorrect has been the subject of the state capture commission due to corruption.

In 2024 when it became clear they might lose majority, they exempted themselves from a government policy, which affects all medium to large businesses, which mandated they had to procure anything like maintenance or supplies through a BEE (black economic empowerment) partner. The idea is good but has been abused as rent seeking by the politically connected. So now they are exempt and the OEMs can directly work to fix and maintain the power stations.

Funny due to the loadshedding, or rolling blackouts, we did not have enough power stations working, and as far as I know we were one, if not the only country reaching our Paris accords targets.

But solar power is here to stay, heck even I want it on my own place, due to the cost of electricity becoming unaffordable, if you take a 10 year loan on a solar system, the cost savings will pay of the system itself. This has led to the affluent that can afford high tariffs prices from Eskom switch to Solar, saving them money, but they were used to subsidise electricity prices for the poor. So now the poor must pay more for electricity.

The government did finally approve the independent power producers bill, finally allowing people other than government to produce electricity, and solar looks like a solid option, since we have lots of Sun and the falling prices. So government is loosing grip on the generation market, allowing the free market to make changes.

But I will say it has been so nice to have had uninterrupted power when I come home, not needing to throw out my freezer food, having a hot shower, being able to prepare food on a hot stove under lights instead of a braai/BBQ.

  • Ragrets rule
  • Oh I have seen many photos of faces. Best one still is an MTV show just the tattoo of us where friends can choose what and where to tattoo on each other, there was a guy that got the full Trump portrait on his ass, and he loved it

  • Geothermal energy could outperform nuclear power
  • Yeah this feels like a fluff piece.

This is all my opinion. Some rocks dissolve in water, which is how we have sinkholes, or water table contamination. Another problem is physics, the hot water you pump down need to be pumped back up, that is a large cost on its own. Even if it is 200°C steam will rise in atmospheric conditions not subterranean, nor will it easily go back into the hot side pipes as this illustrates.

Funny enough I do feel geothermal is an untapped resource. I think, and this is my thinking again, a closed loop phase change system (like your refrigerator) can really work, even in areas where geothermal heat is not that readily available.

  • Need help with WiFi 6 mesh

Hopefully I am in the right community.

So I have a router, a TP Link Archer AX53, nice router. I wanted to improve the signal in my room and bought a TP link Deco X10. So CAT 6 cable to my room, connect my router and deco.

I thought this might just be a quick tick to add the deco as a mesh device and boom problem sorted.

Now I know this is not a simple WiFi 6 mesh setup, seems like the deco and archer modem does not work together, they make their individual network points.

Does anyone know a solution or am I stuck with two networks. Not end of the world but would have been nice if it can be one mesh network

    Really Impressed

I was always on Linux since Varsity but two years ago when I bought a gaming Laptop, it had Windows 11 on and worked great. I thought I would give it a chance and it was great especially for gaming. Luckily a lot of the open source software I was used to were available on windows. I also liked some of the Linux tools like the cmd tools being adopted by windows.

But yesterday, after two years of seeing issues pile up and the system degrading, I thought how is the grass back on the other side, since I am sick of this shit. Installed my go to distro, Mint, and god what a fucking idiot I feel like. Even if Windows improved since I used it back from 8, but how much has Linux improved in these last two years, like eons compared to windows. My system is smooth and fast, hell my Cyberpunk 2077 runs amazing, even better and less crashing with nothing more than install and no other settings from steam. Chef's kiss
