Why is Kamala Harris being held at such a higher standard than Trump this election?
  • honestly aside from explicitly right wing outlets, I don't see any particular bias against harris. most outlets will almost alway criticize trump on everything while most of the time they praise harris and sometimes they criticise her on her more progression policies (because most of the media tilts fiscal conservative). it's rather more of a perceptions of the audience thing. trump has done so many outlandish shit that now most of his bullshit gets filtered out as noise.

also i don't wanna be mean but the question "Why does it feel standards are much higher for Harris than Trump?" sounds like it's coming from an agitated"vote blue no matter who" democrat who is baffled about why would people not vote for the obviously better candidate.

there are a lot of reasons as you said "this race is STILL either 50/50 or tilt Trump". maybe it's because she's black or female and there are a lot of racist and misogynists out there, maybe it's because of the electoral college, maybe it's because of the hold the MAGA cult has over its members, or maybe it's because harris is refusing to stop arming and helping a genocide and that is turning people off.

the Harris campaign right now can only change one of these factors. even if you plan on voting, lie on the polls and organise and protest against the genocide because if enough people do this to force the hand of the Harris campaign then it wouldn't be a close race at all.

  • Old School Runescape is raising membership prices
  • jagex is a very shitty company and shitty companies don't want money, they want all the money. they will kill this game eventually. I hate jagex, from jagex accounts which is just a blatant attempt to phase out 3rd party tools and lock people to their ecosystem (which also fucked me over because the new account system blocks my entire country) to their customer service which is horrendous.

now they're raising prices to appear more profitable probably to trick another prospective buyer and get tossed around again.

  • YouTube now vs then
  • if this meme didn't mention tiktok i would guess it was from 2017. who even talks about elsagate anymore?

also anecdotal but personally i would say the visibility of small channels have gone way up these past few years. the amount of videos with very low view counts i see in my feed has gone from basically non existent to half of my recommendations.

  • Easy way to troll capital G G*mers:
  • i don't interact with chuds so you're right. that list is absurd lmao. half of these games are woke because you can choose your pronouns. imagine buying a game, downloading it, installing it, opening it and then immediately closing and refunding the game because they've implemented one of the basic features of the English language.

i love how g@mers say they like games while simultaneously hating most of them for absurd reasons.

  • Sunday is Gaming Day: What Are You Playing thread
  • I've started playing Jenny LeClue: Detectivu, which is one of those children point and click games that was crowdfunded in the early 2010's that is almost played exclusively by adults to feel like children again. it's a good game i doubt it'll be long but it's fun and cute.

probably gonna play submachine: legacy after it which is an interesting puzzler by the looks of it.

  • Sounds good to me!
  • I really don't have any concrete intuition as to what the stop killing games initiative is trying to achieve. can someone help? do they want companies to keep up the servers forever? or force them to distribute all parts of their software necessary for thr game to function? or just more disclosure in advertising material about how the support of the game is not indefinite?

  • how to choose window tiling manager?
  • just pick one don't overwhelm yourself with choices. testing out different software is part of the experience just be prepared for possible migration. currently I'm using hyprland and I'm happy with it but for Xorg/X11 i3 is a fine choice.

  • Roblox gets banned indefinitely in Turkey over “child exploitation”
  • most people are focusing on the free labour roblox is extracting from kids but from the article:

Further claims stated, according to Turkish media, that Roblox hosted virtual parties promoting pedophilia and that “robux,” the platform’s virtual currency, was being distributed by bot accounts to encourage children’s involvement in these activities, and excess presence of gambling sites and their predatory tactics.

so it looks like roblox was banned because of bad moderation in regards to gambling and sexual predators, both of which are massive issues of the platform. overall i think this is a good move which hopefully will push roblox to do better.

  • World of Goo 2 released [buy from website, devs get 100% of the earnings]

What adventure games do you recommend?

pretty much the title. i have played most of sierra, lucasarts and telltale catalogues so if you are suggesting one of their games i've probably already played it. it doesn't have to be a copycat, homage or in the same style as these companies' games either, just that it must satisfy the vague definition of being an "adventure game" and have a good story. thanks in advance, can't wait to see your recommendations!

EDIT: thanks for your recommendations i couldn't reply to everyone. i can't to play (most of) them when i got time.

Is anyone else worried about the apple vision pro?

i wouldn't normally be concerned since any company releasing a VR product with this price tag is obviously going to fail... but it's apple and somehow through exquisite branding and sleek design they have managed to create something that resonated with "tech reviewers" and rich folk who can afford it.

what's really concerning is that it's not marketed as a new VR headset, it's marketed by apple and these "tech reviewers" as the new iphone, something you take with you everywhere and do your daily tasks in, consume content in etc...

and it's dystopian. imagine you are watching youtube on this thing and when an ad shows up, you can't look away, even if you try to they can track your eye movement and just move the window, you can't mute it, you certainly cannot install adblock on it, you are forced to watch the ad until it satisfies apple or you just give up and take out the headset.

this is why i think all these tech giants (google meta apple etc) were/are interested in the "metaverse". it holds both your vision and your hearing hostage, you cannot do anything else when using it but to just use the thing. a 100% efficiency attention machine, completely blocking you from the outside world.

i'm not concerned about this iteration as much as people are not hyped about this iteration. just like how people are hyped about the next apple vision, i'm more worried about the next iterations with somewhat lower price tag and better software availability. i hope it flops and i know it probably won't achieve any sort of mainstream adoption even if it's deemed a success because it probably can't get less bulky and look less dorky, but the possibility is still worrying. what are your thoughts?
