  • Something tells me he was also getting fiber, vitamins, and minerals from somewhere during that time, so unless you have a dietician on call to help you balance that out, don't eat nothing but Chicken McNuggets.

  • I'm not worried about downvotes when I engage in politics. If it's more than I'm expecting to see, I might reassess whether my take is reasonable or comes from misunderstanding and poor judgement. But if it's a handful of downvotes on a take I stand by, I'm not going to pay them much mind.

  • Total asceticism isn't sustainable. Indulge in things that bring you joy, and recognize that over-indulgence cheapens the experience and has other drawbacks. Find the balance that works for you, otherwise you're just sacrificing mental health for physical.

  • There was a political realignment after the civil war where the democrat and the republican parties switched roles as liberals and conservatives.

Now there's a factual realignment, where reality and satire switch which one is absurd and which one is correct when taken at face value

  • Too complicated for 90% of voters to comprehend.

They saw: Democrat president made my groceries more expensive

They heard: Democrat replacement will do things around the same as they used to be. Republican guy is going to do things VERY differently.

And the herd mentality took over past that point

  • The decising factor in most elections is how expensive things feel. Now, the president can't do a whole lot to make things cost less. But they have a hell of a lot of power to make things cost more. So the BEST we can hope for is a president who slows down how fast things are getting more expensive. But when we're spending, we don't feel the current inflation rate, we feel the cumulative effect of inflation for the past few years.

  • Any state could change colors at any time. It's just that the overwhelming majority of the population in most states will not listen to any amount of evidence that shows what the consequences of their choice will be. They stick to their tribe. End of discussion. So only in the states where the two tribes are roughly equal in size will we see any excitement in the election

  • By moderating our online discussion boards to better weed out posts, comments, replies, etc. from foreign interference and domestic Astroturfing that present themselves as far-left in order to convince people that perfect should be the enemy of better. I swear, nobody comes to the conclusion "Esteemed prosecutor Kamala Harris isn't as bad as convicted felon Donald Trump, but she still has flaws and isn't worthy of my vote in a competition for the most influential job in the world that will certainly come down to one of the two of them" on their own. That idea has to be planted by someone arguing in bad faith, and repeated in many forms for someone to begin to believe it.

  • Mathematically, it's still exactly one half as bad as bad to not vote than to vote for the Republican party, regardless of who you are. A vote Republican swings the count 2 points relative to voting Democrat. No vote, 1 point relative to voting Democrat.
