At a shelter for displaced Ukrainians in Dnipro, volunteers prepare for the second New Year’s under the shadow of all-out war. Speaking with RFE/RL’s Ukrainian Service, residents are finding small ways to celebrate, each act of gratitude a small victory over Russia’s drive to break their spirit.

From a “drone-pong” competition to a “revenge crowdfunding” drive, raising cash for the army has become a feature of wartime life for millions of Ukrainians, marrying patriotism with a sense of self-worth and community. But if Western financial support dwindles, these donations won’t fill the gap.

Yes, people tend to think in black and white, going from one extreme to the other. But reality is much more nuanced.
It's important that democracies learn from crises. Even the current crisis in the US is leading to an important public discussion between the parties, which will lead to better mutual understanding.
At the same time, dictatorial regimes tend to exacerbate crises by creating another one to cover up the causes of the previous one.
The problem the Ruscists have with tank drivers is that they vanish without a trace with every turret toss of their Soviet-type tank. And they have taken down most of the Soviet training facilities and capabilities. That's why Ruscist tank drivers often lack proper training.
IMHO, Russians are a mixed bag - both untrained slave mobiks on the frontlines and some shrewd elite specialists behind. A hundred years ago the Russian Empire also fought in such a way.
Their archaic way of fighting is anyway grotesque nowadays, to say the least. They continue to finance the war by selling oil and gas extracted in their Siberian colonies - but their capabilities are noticeably eroding.
Thank you for letting me know about nERA. Hopefully we'll get to know what this stuff really is.
