  • My thermostat has a setting which allows for a greater temperature swing. I have it set at 2. With the temperature set at 68f the heat refill not come on until the temperature reaches 66f. This causes the heat to run longer but less frequently, which is more efficient than running in short bursts. I also have a setting which runs the fan for a few minutes after the heat stops which scavenges the remaining heated air out of the air ducts.

Some landlords will have negative cashflow even if they are charging rent because they know they can sell the property for a profit later.

  • Someone in their 50s could easily have $1M in assets if their house appreciated a lot since they bought it and they gave a decent retirement account. Yet they could have been earning $50k a year and have no liquid assets.

  • For a long time there weren't any new jobs or wage growth because boomers weren't retiring due to the 07' financial crises. It took at least 5 years or more for things to really settle from that. Then the Fed never raised interest rates when they should have. Then they couldn't lower them during the pandemic and had to print a bunch of money to dig the economy out of a hole and now we're here.
