Suggestions for General Public
  • I imagine humor books would be a great fit for situations where people come and go, but I haven't read much in that genre. Maybe Pratchett would be possible. Generally, a safe bet are older books that are set in a genre that is naturally SFW. I am thinking of Agatha Christie style detective novels.

If you liked the theme of stories in the Name of the Wind, you might like “the starless sea” by Erin Morgernstern. It is a bit “progressive” in the sense, that it contains a little gay love story but all very much SFW and with a romantic perspective. There is one scene however, I'm not quite sure how it was described that could be considered a sex scene? As far as I remember, sex was rather mentioned and not described or anything. Oh, and a big warning, that the sequel of Name of the wind is NFSW. For more fantasy, I can recommend Narnia or His dark Materials by Philip Pullman, which both are series written to be read by children and adults alike.

If you want to continue with sci-fi, maybe consider “We are Legion”/the Bobiverse by Dennis E. Taylor or the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.

  • What are your favorite openings to a book?
  • I put the shotgun in an Adidas bag and padded it out four pairs of tennis socks, not my style at all, but that was what I was aiming for: if they think your're crude, go technical; if they think you're technical, go crude.

  • Which adaptation do you think has surpassed its source material in quality?
  • The movies are awesome, but as a bookworm I would rather say they're doing justice to their source material. I'm rereading more than rewatching, but I guess I'm not normal (And no worries, we book purists don't kill people who have actually read the book)

  • I'm discovering BookWyrme, questionning how it is compatible to my readers journey. Wanna talk about it?
  • I made my account a while ago for the same reason. I realised that I am not much of an online book tracker, but I use bookwyrm to post my reviews if I write any. You dont't have to use all features of bookwyrm to explore it is what I want to say.

  • Often, I need to add them to my instance as I’ve mainly read in French and many books needs to be manually added or imported before completing missing information.

Yeah, that is one of the more prevalent problems with bookwyrm if you ask me. I mainly read in German, so I do the same. This is less an issue with English books, but I think it really depends on how popular they are in general and on bookwyrm. It helps, however, if you choose a boowyrm instance with many French people. If my current read is a German translation of an English original, then another possibility I consider is to select the English original, if adding the book manually is too much a hassle.

  • What book(s) are you currently reading or listening? May 28
  • I'm reading the 3rd Malazan book at the moment. At least I was, until my library loan was due and somebody else borrowed it. I was stuck with the English version (I mainly read in German) and had to learn all the character names anew. Some are easy to translate (Silverfox is Silberfuchs), however Whiskeyjack gave me a hard time (He's called Elster in German).

But now I got my beloved German version back, so I guess my brain has to adapt again.
